It’s a soft DNF for now. I liked the concept of the book. And how they were lovers in every lifetime 🥹 and he made sure to always find her. But it wasn’t holding my attention and I might give it a try later on. I also do wish we had more character descriptions about their race or ethnicity. If I’m not mistaken it’s different in every lifetime but it’s not very clearly stated

Loved the idea of a Romeo and Juliet like storyline. Unfortunately this one just didn’t captivate me the way I was hoping.

Do you ever regret keeping a book in you to be read pile for way too long? I do. If you have this book in your pile shove the rest aside and pick it up!

Helene Janssen has left behind a bad marriage and run away to Alaska to write a book. On her very first night she see's a man named Sebastien. Sebastien is the embodiment of a character in her book. She feels drawn to him and while he seems to recognize her he pretends not to and rushes off. This leaves her baffled and a further run in with him leaves her angry, frustrated and curious.

Sebastien is more than surprised to see Helene. He thought he had broken the curse that has resulted in her untimely death over and over again. You see, Sebastien is an immortal better known as Romeo Montague and Helene is a reincarnation of Juliet Capulet. They reconnect over and over again with the newest reincarnation of Juliet having no memory of her previous lives but will Sebastien risk his heart and his beloved's life?

I have always been a fan of Shakespeares's Romeo and Juliet and this new recreation of their love story makes for an excellent read. It spans centuries, continents and various love stories that will make you heart ache.

A timeless story perfect for the hopeless romantics, fans of starcrossed lovers, or anyone needing a fresh and thoughtful romance read.

I’ll definitely be revisiting this book when I need a quick and easy romance read. Overall, I would recommend this to readers looking for a summer read, some sweet yet heart wrenching romance, or a timeless story to get lost in.

Although this was somewhat cheesy and predictable, I loved every minute of it! I know Shakespeare retellings are pretty common, but I thought the author still managed to write this book in a way that felt very fresh and new. I loved seeing both characters perspectives and hearing about their past a little bit. Would definitely recommend this one.

I enjoyed this book so much more than I expected! Even though Shakespeare retellings are very common, the author still managed to write a book that felt very fresh and interesting. There were several times where I thought there was about to be a very frustrating genre trope in the plot, but then the author subverted my expectations in a very refreshing way and I was so pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed getting both character's perspectives and also hearing some of their past stories.

was it cheesy? a little predictable and unrealistic? oh for sure! did i eat it up?? you fucking know it!!! but for reals, i thought this was really sweet. i didn’t feel like there was *a ton* of chemistry between our MCs but cmon, they’re literally Romeo and Juliet, they have 5 days of love at first sight pining to go off originally so i feel like Helene and Sebastien get a pass. overall, the plot was fine if a tad boring in places and the best parts were the stories of their past lives. the weird B plot with the shitty ex husband threw me off guard but it didn’t ruin the story so i’ll let it slide. a solid 4⭐️ read

I got this as an arc many moons ago 🌙 and was excited about it but kinda put it on the back burner and I honestly haven’t seen many people talk about it and I know it has an audience so I want to give it a little review!

This is a Romeo and Juliet retelling ✨

“…their love story defies the ages; she is Juliet reincarnated, and he is Romeo, lost in time.”

Romeo has tragically lost his love. He thinks he is forced to live a life without her but somehow she comes back to him as someone new- but only to be lost again. He endures a long life of repetitive disappointment until he finds her yet again…

This story reminded me a little of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue but much much more simple and enticingly sweet. Which feels weird to say bc LaRue is a story with lots of depth and emotional heartache. 😅

I liked that it felt easy (sometimes more YA with a bit of adult language) and had a dual point of view. The MMC’s audio was the guy from Butcher and Blackbird which FOR SURE threw me a little 🤣 but he did it well.

If you’re looking for a romantic- easy read- with a little more depth- this is for you! Especially if you love retellings. She put a spin on it.

Thank you #NetGalley and #Delraypublishing for the arc in exchange for a review!

I was totally into the concept of this one. Super clever and full of imagination. But when it came to the execution, it felt like something was missing, you know? Maybe if they'd spent more time developing the present-day characters and giving the past lives more personality instead of just laying out the events, it would've hit harder. Still, gotta give props to the overall idea—it was solid.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

A Romeo and Juliet retelling meets The Deadliest Catch. Such an intriguing read! A story spanning centuries where Romeo never dies and Juliet lives a hundred lifetimes. I really enjoyed the dual POV and multiple timeline to grasp the full essence of this story. In the present day story, Helene moves to remote Alaska and runs into Sebastian and doesn’t know how or why they have a connection but Sebastian knows. This is a fated mates and second chance romance (maybe more like a hundred chance) story. It also has some forced proximity which is one of my favorites.

I will say the ending was perfection and I loved every second of this book! I binged this one in a day and definitely recommend!

I am certain there is a very select niche audience for this book, and I am here for it! I absolutely adored this novel.

Helene Janssen realizes she is one part of the original star-crossed lovers as Juliet when she runs across Sebastien Montague, the original Romeo!! Sebastien has lived dozens of lives over centuries and reinvents himself over and over again. He is currently living his life as a deep sea fisherman in Ryba Harbor, Alaska. He remembers all of his lives and details and constantly runs across the reincarnation of Juliet-who typically doesn't remember her past lives. But he can only keep her for a short time before he loses her again-to the curse. So does he enjoy the time he has with Helene or does he avoid her to save her and allow her to live her life longer.

Pros:
A beautiful love story
Alternating point of views
An adorable couple I was rooting for from beginning to end
The gorgeous settings of Alaska, Amsterdam, Italy, Verona, etc.
The author's note at the end made the book even sweeter

Negatives:
I get the point of the historical vignettes throughout with their retelling of the couple's history but sometimes they distracted from the flow of the novel overall

As a high school English teacher who has taught Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet probably close to 100 times, I absolutely loved the references and background of the play and the characters.

A truly moving re-telling of Romeo and Juliet - except they are living for eternity, over and over again. Such a creative story - really enjoyed this one!

This was such a sweet, simple book! I read this in one sitting during my last long flight. I do wish there was more into the story.

Right away I was intrigued by this book. Romeo and Juliet the tale as old as time, but with a twist!!

You couldn’t help but fall for Sebastian/Romeo and Helene/Juliette’s story and all that they go through to find one another through the years. The book kept your interest throughout and is a great quick read!

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC

A super unique take on Romeo and Juliet! I enjoyed this book, but don't love the surprise pregnancy trope and I found the heroine unlikeable at times. However it was still a good book and I love when an author can create a new take on something that has been redone many times before!

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House-Ballantine for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. This is a beautiful piece, rich with romance, history and manages to be lush and elevated while staying very readable and contemporary.

It doesn't get as bogged down with the historical vingettes as it could and stays capitvating throughout. I will admit I enjoyed the beginning/first half more because I felt like the stakes could have been higher towards the end but it was a very enjoyable read even if my LOVE of the premise made me wish for a slightly better execution at times. Devoured it and wished for more even though it let me down from what I thought it could have been.

If you are someone who loves the Romeo and Juliet story, books dealing with interesting time progression issues, or just someone who loves a star-crossed lovers "love story" this may be the book for you!
