The One Hundred Loves or Juliet was a Romeo and Juliet retelling with a magically time traveler’s wife twist.
Helene may currently be in Alaska but when she stumbles upon the main character of all her fictional stories she doesn’t know what to think. What’s worse is he is standoffish and rude, the opposite of the character he wrote has been writing her whole life. But that doesn’t push her away, it only makes her ask more questions.
I loved the stories both Helene’s and Sebastien’s, within the overall story. It was a star crossed lovers, classic story with a modern twist.
I don’t remember hearing much about this one when it was released a few years ago. But I enjoyed it if you are looking for an older title. Thank you Del Rey for this eARC copy to read and review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this one.
So I love Evelyn Skye’s YA fantasy books and I was so pumped to see her breaking into a new genre. It is very clear that this was a labor of love because it reads like a ton of research and time went into crafting each of Romeo and Juliet’s lives. That was definitely my favorite part. The historical scenes. They were heartbreaking but I loved the love in each one.
I did remove one star because Sebastian was a little weird in his current life? I can’t really put my finger on it but I didn’t love this version of him. I think maybe it was why I don’t like age gap romances? It felt like he knew so much more than she did and it felt like he was almost taking advantage of her?
You have to kind of suspend your disbelief a bit and really lean into the soul mates idea but if you do that, you can get passed the things about Sebastian that irked me 😂
I would continue reading Evelyn’s books.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reincarnated lovers? Timeless romance across centuries? Yes, please. But the writing sometimes leaned a little melodramatic, and I didn’t totally buy the romance. It’s giving Lifetime movie with a bit of magical realism -- or just plain magic. It's a good light read if you don't overthink it.

Such a cute romance. I loved the characters loved their story. The chemistry was cute hot and on pointe. Cannot recommend this book enough.

The blend of timeless romance and lyrical prose gave the book such a dreamy, haunting quality—I was completely swept up in the idea of love enduring across lifetimes. I loved how you reimagined the classic tale in a way that felt fresh yet emotionally grounded, with characters who were both romantic and deeply human. There were moments where I wished for a bit more development in certain parts of the plot, but the emotional depth and originality of the story kept me hooked.

A sweeping romantic fantasy about soulmates reincarnated across centuries. Lush, passionate, and filled with yearning. A beautifully bittersweet love story.

Though I love the concept behind this book, I ultimately didn't think that the story and the writing was for me, and I ended up not finishing.

Reimagining Romeo and Juliet this way was expected, but not boring. Who doesn't love a lifetime-spanning love story? Magical realism, reincarnation, and romance all blend together in a quick read.

I think these types of books are not for me. Although the premise was intriguing, I found myself always dropping this book and it was difficult to continue. I didn't connect well with the characters and I feel like they lacked character growth.

3.5⭐️
This was an enjoyable and entertaining read. I like the idea of Romeo and Juliette’s love story spanning hundreds of years, although this book did leave me alike wanting for some answers as to why the curse came to be in the first place and why it took so long to break. Overall, pretty cute with some fun drama.

I really enjoyed this modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet. It was unique and fresh. I loved how we got to see glimpses of Romeo and Juliet in their different lives together. It was a sweet and romantic story. I liked the ending but I could have used an epilogue. I would definitely recommend.

*The Hundred Loves of Juliet* by Evelyn Skye is a beautifully written, romantic novel that blends timeless love with a touch of magic. The story follows a woman who discovers that she and a mysterious man have been reincarnated lovers across centuries—mirroring the tale of Romeo and Juliet. As they navigate fate, heartbreak, and destiny, they must decide if their love is worth the risk once more. Skye’s lyrical prose and deep emotional storytelling make this an unforgettable read. Perfect for fans of epic love stories, reincarnation romances, and sweeping, soul-stirring narratives that span lifetimes.

This is a heartfelt and enchanting romance that combines reincarnation with a modern-day love story. After a tough breakup, Helene Janssen escapes to Alaska to focus on writing, only to meet Sebastien Montague, a fisherman who eerily resembles the hero in her novel. Their immediate connection hints at a deeper, timeless bond, as they discover they are the reincarnations of Romeo and Juliet. With a fresh chance at love, they must navigate the complexities of rewriting their tragic fate and finding a true happily-ever-after.

This is a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet in the modern world. Helene (Juliet) is always fated to die tragically and Sebastien (Romeo) is so heartbroken that he moved to Alaska to avoid her next reincarnation.
Once they meet, they get stuck together and start to develop feelings. The build up and travel was really strong. However, she ten gets pregnant unexpectedly. I did not anticipate the pregnancy trop and it threw me off from the main plot.
I recommend this book if you want a modern twist on Romeo and Juliet, with a little bit of magic and some pregnancy trope.
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for the honest review.

Helene runs away to Alaska for some peace and quiet to start writing her novel. There she meets Sebastien who looks just like how she pictured the hero of her novel. He seems to recognize her too, but tries to brush her off. But their love story truly started a long time ago when he was called Romeo and she was called Juliet. Will this time finally be their happy ending?
I loved the reimagining of a happier story for Romeo and Juliet. It is filled with mystery and passion. Thank you Netgalley and Random House - Ballantine for the egalley in exchange for my honest review.

I'm sorry, but this was... absurd.
Here's what I'm gonna say: I didn't mind the premise, but the writing was not there for me. This is a YA author's debut adult novel, except it reads like it was definitely conceived of and written as a YA novel. Which is not an inherently bad thing, until you're writing about thirty-year-olds (with centuries-old souls, by the way) choosing to deal with issues such as abusive ex-husbands, unplanned pregnancies, and the crushing weight of a centuries-old destiny like they were prepubescent teenagers.
The characters needed more attention. The plot needed more attention. The romance needed more attention. The curse needed more attention. (It was THE problem, until it... wasn't?) The ending was a disaster. The emotional content dealt in mature themes, but lacked maturity; I felt like I was reading a high schooler's approximation of how adults talk about their feelings.
It's very clear from Evelyn Skye's afterword that this was an enormously important and personal book for her, which is the only reason why I can't bring myself to give it one-star.
Otherwise, respectfully, I'm just here for the story... and this wasn't it.

This is a clever retelling of Romeo and Juliet - Juliet has been reincarnated and Romeo is somehow lost in time. A 3.5 star reading for me..

*The Hundred Lives of Juliet* is a beautifully written, emotional journey of love, loss, and reinvention. A unique, poignant story that stays with you long after the last page.

This book has been on my Netgalley for a bit and I haven’t picked it up. I haven’t been into romance in a minute, so I’m not the right person to review it anymore.

This novel is a must-read for anyone who loves romantic epics with a hint of the fantastical. It masterfully weaves mythological and Shakespearean influences into a heartfelt, modern love story. If you enjoyed The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger or The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, you’ll likely be swept away by this one. Evelyn Skye has created a poignant, beautifully written tale that stays with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
Thank you to Ballantine and NetGalley for the early review copy. The above opinions are my own.
