I love this revived trend of not waiting until the end of the book to have a big twist. It catches me off guard a little more if I don’t know when to expect one. And these days all thrillers have one or ten. I also love locked room thrillers, and while this one isn’t that, but it is similar. A group of people isolated from the world.

This centers around secrets. Who has them and what are they. The prologue clues you in that six people are looking over a bluff at a dead body. You quickly learn there are seven on the camping excursion, but not only don’t you know who did it, but you also don’t know who has fallen.

I was a fan of the chapter teasers at the end of some of the chapters, letting you know what might happen next. I enjoyed watching the layers peel back. It is quick paced and I never had a moment that I wanted to put it down.

I highly recommend this one for those that love fast paced, twisty thrillers.

"Lying by omission is still lying.”

The In-Laws is a slow burn, popcorn thriller. Told by multiple POVs, as 3 couples: the parents, the in-laws, and the engaged to be married; set out on a family bonding camping trip. But this trip turns out to be anything but

The In-Laws is chocked full of secrets, suspects, and suspense. Seriously, trust no one! And if you like a twist, there are no shortage of them here. I was getting whiplash from one to the next.

The In-Laws is the perfect airplane/beach read. Easy to read and short enough for a quick trip. ✈️

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I couldn’t get into this story. Every single chapter I’ve read so far is from Abigail’s pov and the story is super corny.

I am not going to finish this or review it on goodreads but for fairness I will give 3 stars as I can see potential.

Thank you to Bookoture, the author and NetGalley for an arc.

Abigail and her parents, John and Kristen, are heading out on hike/camping trip for a few days along with Abigail’s fiancé, Pete and his parents, Kenny and Darla. As Abigail and Pete’s wedding is coming up in a few months Abigail thought this hike and togetherness might help the two families to bond. Their guide is Liam who works for Team Wilderness.

Abigail’s parents are well off but Pete’s not so much. So, there are some arguments about the wedding as Kristen and Darla disagree on flowers and the number of people Pete’s family can invite since Abigail’s parents are footing the bill.

Along the way, they encounter some strange things such as a lone hiker asking for some of their meager food. In addition, some scary message left along the way frighten them. When some of their food gets wet making their supplies very limited, tensions rise and tempers grow short. But, when one of them goes missing, everyone becomes terrified.

This was a intriguing thriller with a number of twists. All of the characters weren’t really likable which gave the story some spark. The only thing that made me chuckle was why in the world a group of people who aren’t outdoors folks, would agree to a hiking/camping trip like this. Enjoy!

Abigail and Pete will married soon, for bond their family together they plan spend the weekend doing hooking and camping with guide. When they found dead body the tension between two families are raising. Disagreement arise for each moments and I personally agree with Abigail, why they choose this type activity as family bond between oldies.

The author is new name for me and I found her writing is enjoyable. The theme is brimming with potential and slow burn plot. The layers of background informations are given partially and the twist make the mystery keep me sit on edge. I would love try another books from this
Author.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for provided my copy. I enjoyed my reading time and my thoughts are my own.

The In-Laws is a fantastic family drama centred around a family bonding trip in the Michigan woodlands.

The plot draws you in straight away, with the book fast becoming a 'just one more chapter' read. It's well paced, twisty and totally unpredictable. The characters are well developed, one of them is lying, but who? And who is the mysterious man?

It's highly suspenseful, tense and highly engaging and I really enjoyed it.

Many thanks to Bookouture for my tour spot.

Wow, I definitely did not see that ending coming! This is not just another take on a locked-room mystery, albeit set in the wilderness, thanks to an excellent and very twisted storyline! Loved it!

BOOKWORMS REVIEW:
A good domestic drama for anyone looking suspense, secrets, family rows. Abigail and Pete are getting married soon and to build connections between the parents Abigail has organised a guided hiking weekend. Both sets of parents had only met once before. It starts out ok,but soon turns into a disaster when supplies go missing, someone is following them and one of them ends up dead! Suffice to say this hike did not have the desired outcome for Abigail. But who in the group is responsible, and what was worth killing for? Plenty of drama in this one.

The In-Laws starts out with a bang and doesn't let up. In the beginning of the book a dead body is spotted down a cliff. You won't know who it is until much later in the book, but you will try to figure out who you think it is and if it was an accident or murder. Abigail and Pete are engaged and they want their families to get along. The first time both sets of parents met, it didn't go at all well. Abigail decides that a 3 day camping trip with a guide is the answer to bonding the group. She met a guide that she liked through a work bonding experience and has asked Liam to help with her current predicament.

As Abigail and her parents, Kristen and John, drive towards the meeting spot everyone is a bit on edge. Abigail is wondering if this was a good idea and her parents are not campers so they're not excited at all.. They would've preferred a trip with a nice hotel and spa. Kristen is a psychiatrist and John is in real estate with Pete, the groom to be. Abigail met Pete through her father. Pete's parents, Darla and Kenny, are okay with camping but don't like Abigail's parents. Darla is a fortune teller who uses palm readings and tarot cards to tell people about their life. Kenny just does what he can find and has some secrets that no one knows about. Will these secrets come out? Pete's brother, Trent, is the only family member not going camping. Trent is odd and seems to have some violent tendencies. always seeming to get into trouble in his youth.

Liam has planned the hike out on a map and has each rest stop marked as well as each spot they will camp overnight. He's got the food and dishes in his backpack along with bear spray, a knife, a first aid kit, and his clothes. The others are told to only pack what's necessary for 3 days as they will have to carry their packs for 8 miles or more each day. Once the backpacks are loaded and on, they start off on their adventure. The mom's complain about the weight of their backpacks at the first rest stop. The husband's help them out by relieving them of some of the weight. Darla's pack is crazy heavy because she's carrying lots of stones and crystals that she can't be without. Liam does his best to lead the conversation so that it's a positive discussion, but it seems like they don't have much in common. Disagreements arise at every turn and Abigail really starts to rethink her decision to do this.

The first night they stop to camp, Liam informs them that the men will sleep in one tent and the women will be in the other. Liam will keep watch and be in his own small tent. No one is too happy about this. The couples were all hoping to sleep with their spouse or spouse to be. They follow directions and work together to get their tents set up, gear placed, and sleeping bags ready. Liam gets a fire started and begins to cook dinner. After dinner they sit around a campfire and Liam tells them a scary story. The story is about a woman dying by falling off a gulch that they will see the next day. Was she pushed or did she fall? Nobody knows. Abigail keeps getting a creepy feeling as she sees shadows behind trees. When it happened earlier today they ran into a very scary guy who looked like he hadn't eaten in a week and looked strung out. Kristen gave the hiker a couple of granola bars because he looked like he needed them more than she did. Who was that guy and is he following them? Are they safe out here? Liam already told them he didn't have a gun, only bear spray and a knife for the food.

The next morning John's pills that he takes for his heart are gone! They were in his backpack last night because he took one. Who would take John's pills and why? This is very upsetting to Kristen and Abigail as John had a heart attack a couple of years ago and needs those pills! Everyone looks for them, but they are not found. Abigail wants to go back, but John tells her he'll be fine for a couple of days. Will he? Their cellphones don't work on the mountain so if there was an emergency they'd be out of luck. Liam discovers that his bear spray is missing from his pack!! Who would take the bear spray? It's the only thing that will keep a bear away if they run into one. Who is taking things and why? What do the palm readings that Darla gives Kristen and Abigail mean? Are they in danger? The tarot card reading that Darla gives Abigail is very creepy.....looks like a card of death! Darla won't tell Abigail much as she's afraid to. What is Darla hiding?

The In-Laws gets more and more intense as you read. I enjoyed the slow burn and guessing that the reader goes through. There are a couple of twists that I didn't see coming that make this book a 5 star rating for me. I highly recommend that you read this book if you like a good mystery. Will everyone make it home from the camping trip? Will Abigail and Pete get married? Who is hiding a secret? Will it come out? Was Trent so upset about being left out of the wedding party that he followed them to the mountain? Is he the shadow figure they see from time to time? Did he really kill the neighbor's dog when he was young? Was the death of Trent's best friend an accident? You'll have to read The In-Laws to find out!

I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The In-Laws in exchange for a fair review. #TheInLaws

Laura Wolfe has written a very interesting book, full of action and intrigue.

Prior to her marriage to Pete, Abigail plans a camping adventure for her parents, future in-laws and herself and Pete. She wants them all to get to know each other better before the wedding. Of course, the trip is very rugged and full of mishaps! What was the true motive for this adventure?
As the book unfolds, we learn a lot about the backgrounds of each person, and the truth unfolds, until the twisty ending!
It was a quick and enjoyable book.
4 star worthy!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for my truthful review.

A couple go on a pre-wedding camping trip with both sets of parents… leading to disaster. 4.5 stars. I did really enjoy this book. A lot of twists and turns all the way to the end. I enjoy a book with different perspectives in the writing (the chapters differed in POV). I would recommend this book definitely. I did feel that the ending was over very quickly. It all happened in the space of a page (I think, I read on a kindle!).

This book was a little bit slow to start so I didn't get gripped straight away but it started picking up as you continue reading.

It has suspense around every corner, tension and twists and turns.

The story and characters were fantastic.

Highly recommended

Two sets of parents who are polar opposites are about to spend time together at the behest of Abigail and Pete. The engaged couple are hoping that their parents will get to know one another, with hopes of all of them eventually becoming friends. The group of people are led by an experienced guide named Liam. More than being a guide, Liam’s experienced past includes targeted activities that in most cases bond whatever group he is leading.

As the story begins to unfold, it is delivered mostly from Abigail’s point of view. However, various chapters include the POVs of other characters, even Liam, their guide. As this is a psychological thriller, it goes without saying that things are not going to go smoothly. In fact, it becomes very clear that more than one character has secrets. There are lies that are being told and that have been told. There are strange things such as eerie messages occurring that are throwing everybody off. Then to top it off, someone is found dead at the bottom of a cliff.

This book is very much locked-room story, although it is set deep in a forest in Michigan. As far as that body that was discovered, it becomes almost immediately clear that it is a case of murder. With a small group of people, at least one of them has to be responsible for the murder, thus creating a tense atmosphere until they can get the attention of the authorities.

Laura Wolfe has created an intriguing story with more than a few twists that cleverly make discovering the killer near to impossible. The In-Laws is the fourth book I have read by the talented author, and it was another enjoyable page-turning read.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I almost put this one down about 40% of the way through because it was a slow build. However, I kept going and I'm glad I did! Once the twists began, they kept coming. I will definitely seek out more from this author.

A fast paced, closed population thriller set in nature.
I do feel this premise has been repeated quite a bit, but they are still good reads for me!
This one centers on a soon to be family (as the title suggests), who go for a hike together. Through all the twists and turns I could not predict the killer.
This book was highly entertaining and a quick read for me. The author is also a new to me author who I will be checking out further!

A wilderness get away to strengthen the bond of a family, what could possibly go wrong when you even have a guide to help things go smoothly?

6 go in and only 5 return...but who could it be?

This thriller will have you on the edge of your seats with twists and turns throughout! So many reasons for this trip to be called short but every hint to do so was being ignored..from a shadow man, random messages and the couple that just couldnt leave the park fast enough..would you have went on the hike? Definitely one of my favorite reads so far! 4/5☆

I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I started The In'-Laws as I was undecided from the description. Once I got into it though I really enjoyed it. It had plenty of twists and turns - nearly to the point of too many and the characters were not very likeable but it kept me turning the pages all the way to the satisfying ending.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
