“Princess Pru and the Ogre on the Hill“ by Maureen Fergus, with illustrations by Danesh Mohiuddin is a picture book about a young princess and her scary new neighbor.

Princess Pru lives with her two dads, an ostrich named Orville and three tarantulas. One day a ghastly ogre who is really quite ugly moves into the house on the hill. Pru isn’t sure what to think initially and the villages are pretty terrified by him. But the ogre is going to teach them all a lesson and kindness.

This was a fun story with great characters. I loved the lesson and it’s surprise. I also really loved the artwork. I think readers are really going to like this one.

I had a great time reading this book. When an Ogre moves to a nearby hill, at first the princess isn’t happy about it. But after a short time she wonders if there is more to them than it seems. She decides to take a big risk, and it pays off better than she expected it to. I think most kids will have a lot of fun reading this book.

THIS IS A GREAT story about not judging someone before getting to know them. I thought the story was so sweet and the illustrations were so cute and old school. I loved it!

This is basically a tale about not making assumptions about people you've never met. I liked that all the characters are average looking, and that the princess is NOT thin and blonde. Kids will undoubtedly love the smelly ogre and the royal tarantulas.

This is a familiar premise for a children's story. A grumpy character is misunderstood, but the protagonist sees the goodness underneath. The fun illustrations and storyline add a quirkiness to the familiar tale that children will love.

Princess Pru and the Ogre on the Hill, written by Maureen Fergus and illustrated by Danesh Mohiuddin, is a picturebook currently scheduled for release on April 18 2023. Princess Pru’s life is practically perfect. She has two loving dads, an ostrich named Orville, and three royal tarantulas. But one day, a ghastly ogre with crusty toenails and goopy ears moves into the house on the hill. At first, Pru sees the ogre as a nuisance: he disrupts her royal rock band practices, weekly tickle tag games, and even the hide-and-seek tournament. But then she starts to wonder if the ogre is just lonely. The unsympathetic townspeople become especially terrified when Oggy the ogre is spotted buying cupcakes and balloons. They receive ominous notes (that look very much like invitations), and the kings are convinced that Oggy wants to make everyone into a stew! But with courage and spunk, Pru heads to the house on the hill to meet Oggy—for a party! All along, Oggy just wanted to make friends—and thanks to Pru, he does.

Princess Pru and the Ogre on the Hill is a charming picturebook with wonderful illustrations. The artwork felt a bit nostalgic to me, since it reminded me (in all the best ways) of the cartoons and comics that I remember from my childhood. I am not sure what about the style made me feel that, but I loved it so it does not really matter why. While the book is clearly about making assumptions and how 'everyone' can be wrong it does need feel preachy or pushy- which I find sometimes happens where there is a clear intent in a children's story. I think having the child be the voice of reason, and bravery, will appeal to many young readers and maybe help them be more empathetic in their own lives after reading the book. However, the book is also just good fun and entertaining, as all the very best books are.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. All opinions are my own.

What a adorable story about not judging a book by its cover. I also loved the images, the 3 royal tarantulas made me smile with their little hats. The decisionof of having two kings was a nice touch, .

A cute story of a princess who isn't afraid of the ogre. Even though everyone else, including her two dads (also the kings), Princess Pru is not afraid of the ogre. She shows everyone he isn't something to be scared of and finds a good friend along the way.

I really enjoyed reading this picture book. The images were cute and colourful, playful characters. However, I felt there was something missing. It felt rather one dimensional as he was ugly and therefore mean or cruel. It might have been helpful had he done something that could have been misunderstood.

All in all it was a fun read and I liked it. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to read it!

Cute enough short book about Princess Pru and her relationship with a new resident, an ogre. Pru forces people to examine their preconceived notions, and the ogre find new friends.

Great for the elementary school crowd, who will enjoy the grossness of some of the things the ogre does.

Princess Pru and the Ogre on the HIll by Maureen Fergus was such a cute read. I loved that Princess Pru had two dads and this fact was told in such a natural way. I also loved how bright and detailed the pictures were. A book about including others and feelings that is sure to be cross curricular. I will definitely read this one to my class.
