Sweet and surprisingly refreshing love story with a ton of heart and depth. Explored the deep family dynamics. Highly recommend.

I love cats and romcoms, so clearly A Love Catastrophe sounded right up my alley! Based on the description, I was not expecting the serious topics (death, dementia, bullying), but it added more depth to the characters. I couldn’t help but root for Kitty and Miles! Of course, I loved Prince Francis! I really enjoyed this grump/sunshine, friends to lovers, opposites attract romcom!

This book was quirky and had a lot of punny moments. Featuring a cat sitter Kitty and Miles, the son of one of her clients. While there was instant attraction between Kitty and Miles, it was definitely more of a friends to lovers vibe, with cat references.

I love cats and was not mad at all about the situation; however, sometimes the humor of the story fell a bit flat.

Overall, it was a cute read.

This one just didn’t work for me. I wanted to love it since I’ve enjoyed Helena’s other books but the plot and the characters weren’t grabbing my attention and I had to dnf.

I love a book that can do a great job with the grumpy/sunshine trope. This book falls into that category. I also felt that the concept of this romance was unique, and the characters felt very three-dimensional.

I will recommend this to any cat lover who loves a good romance. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review!

I had a really difficult time getting into this book. I expected it to be very much a rom-com, but was brought down by a lot of the grim backstory. In addition, all the cat puns kind of turned me off. I love other books by this author, so will continue reading, but this one just didn't land for me.

Calling all cat lovers! This is a romance novel you won't want to miss. Both Kitty and Miles are bad at first impressions (as is the cat Prince Francis) and yet that doesn't stop them from finding their way toward making better ones. I was a bit put off by the double entendre of kitty whisperer for the beginning of this book, but luckily that faded away as I continued reading.

We truly need more romcoms from Helena Hunting to heal our hearts, and this sweet, swoon-worthy story is the perfect remedy. It’s like a recipe for happiness, blending all the best tropes: a disastrous meet-cute, opposites attract, sunshine meets grump, and friends-to-lovers!

Our sunshine heroine is the quirky, cat-loving, good-hearted Kitty Hart, a web sensation with a cat-sitting business. Kitty is a unique, kind soul who can connect with animals in a way that seems almost magical. Enter Miles Thorn, the grumpy, brooding hero who’s a data analyst for the NHL. Miles needs someone to look after his mother’s aggressive cat while she’s in the hospital. He hires Kitty after seeing her impressive online skills, but he’s skeptical she can handle the “evil” cat.

From the very start, their differences are clear—Kitty’s optimistic, bubbly, and a cat lover, while Miles is a pessimistic, dog-loving guy who wears his stress on his sleeve. But despite their stark contrasts, the chemistry between them is undeniable. As they get to know each other, they share their pasts, their personal struggles, and the grief that’s been holding them back. They touch on sensitive topics like the loss of family members, grief, and the damaging effects of cyberbullying.

What I loved most about their relationship was how real and heartfelt it felt. No third-act breakup here! It’s such a refreshing change from the usual angsty miscommunication that often drags romances down with unnecessary conflict. Their love story is sincere, honest, and beautiful.

This book is a quick, soft, heartwarming read that’s perfect for romance fans. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I dove into Helena Hunting's "A Love Catastrophe" hoping for a good, fluffy rom-com, and it delivered... mostly. Let's be real, I'm a total dog person. Like, my heart belongs to slobbery kisses and wagging tails. So, going into a book that's basically a love letter to cats? It was a bit of a stretch for me. I could appreciate the cuteness, but I kept picturing a golden retriever bursting into the scenes and saving the day. (Hey, a girl can dream!)
Kitty and Miles have a definite spark, and I did find myself chuckling at their chaotic interactions. But, and this is just me being honest, some of their banter made me cringe a little. You know those lines that are supposed to be super witty, but just land flat? Yeah, there were a few of those. I found myself thinking, "Oh honey, no."
Look, Helena Hunting is a talented writer, and the story is definitely entertaining. There were moments I genuinely enjoyed, and if you're a cat enthusiast, you'll probably adore this book. It's got that classic rom-com feel, with the forced proximity and the slow-burn romance. For me, though, it was a solid 3 stars. It was a fun escape, but my dog-loving heart just wasn't fully won over. Maybe if there was a rescue dog involved... just saying! 😉

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I was excited to get this title because I thoroughly loved Helena Hunting's Kiss My Cupcake, and thought- cats. I'll probably love this one that much more. I was wrong. This is the story of Miles and Kitty. Kitty runs a cat sitting/training service and Miles needs a sitter for his mom's cat. They start off with a bit of animosity toward each other which quickly- too quickly- becomes a bit of a fling, then too quickly a relationship. I didn't necessarily have a problem with that as much as they really didn't project any true chemistry and I just couldn't buy into the relationship. The true problem, however, is that this book is just plain..meh. A bit boring in fact. I wasn't invested and didn't really care to be. I still gave it 3 stars because it isn't badly written nor does it contain too much unnecessary drama. Something I appreciate in my romances.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. It was a nice book but not one of my favorites by this author. I thought the characters were alright and had good chemistry but there was just something that didn't work for me. Maybe it was a little too kitchy with all the cat references or something. I though the topics of the moms' issues were handled well but it was a far swing from all the cat references to the seriousness of the moms' issues. I did appreciate that there was no 3rd act breakup.

A Purrfectly Charming Romantic Comedy

"A Love Catastrophe" is a delightful romantic comedy that will leave you smiling. The clash between Kitty, a devoted cat lover, and Miles, a self-proclaimed "cat-hater," provides an irresistible source of tension and humor.

The addition of Prince Francis, Kitty's mischievous feline companion, further amplifies the comedic chaos, creating a truly entertaining dynamic. The classic "opposites attract" trope is expertly executed, with Kitty's internet fame and Miles's grumpy demeanor providing ample opportunities for laugh-out-loud moments and heartwarming scenes.

"A Love Catastrophe" is a lighthearted and enjoyable read that will appeal to fans of romantic comedies with a touch of quirky charm.

Title: A Love Catastrophe
Author: Helena Hunting
Format: eBook
Publisher: Forever (Grand Central Publishing)
Publication Date: July 23, 2023
Themes: Family, pet ownership, grief, mental illness, death
Trigger Warnings: Child death, grief, parent death, dementia, mental illness, severe allergy depictions. Hoarding, cyber-bullying, internet trouble

I ADORED this book. I’m usually not one for romance but when you add animals I can’t resist.
Kitty Hart, The Kitty Whisperer, is running a reasonably successful cat-sitting business. This is how she meets Miles Thorn. Miles is a gorgeous man who makes a terrible first impression. When he and Kitty get off on the wrong foot when he reaches out to her to care for his mothers’ cat while she’s in the hospital. Everything goes wrong at first. Miles can’t stand his mother’s cat. That’s strike one. When tackles Kitty during their first meeting over a misunderstanding, she can’t wait to get rid of him. Fate, however, has other plans.

This story was charming and funny and relatable from the very beginning. I loved Kitty’s character from the beginning. She’s quirky and funny. She’s very passionate about cats, which is made clear from the beginning. Kitty runs her own cat-sitting business, which is reasonably successful. When she meets Miles, she gets the wrong impression immediately and through no fault of her own. He’s grumpy, stressed, and (gasp) a DOG person! Miles is another relatable character. He’s someone who’s going through a lot and comes off as grumpy.
This story is a great example of why it’s always good to hold off judgment on a person until you know them. We never know what someone else is going through.

This book could have been longer. I don’t say this often but I would have liked to see a little more from Miles and Kitty before they actually got together. I felt like they went from enemies to lovers a little too quickly.

All in all, I enjoyed this book a lot. I loved the characters. I loved the tongue-in-cheek stuff. I loved the story. Highly recommended for cat-lovers and romance lovers.
