This book was the epitome of everything Helena Hunting does best - a low stakes, silly, steamy romcom.

Like most of Helena Hunting’s other books, I found this romcom to be a breezy and fun read! There wasn’t anything super profound about the story, but I’m also a sucker for a grump x sunshine romance that has a bit of spice, so I thought it was a quick and easy read and overall an enjoyable book.

This book will probably be even more of a fun read for you if you like cats, because the cat puns (see above book title lol) and cats-are-better-than-dogs mentality never stop in this book!

If you’re looking for a quick romcom to read this summer (and bonus points if you like cats), then check this book out!

*I received an ARC from Read Forever in exchange for my honest opinion.

Great romance! Dual POVs, two lovable leads, and cats! Loved the family storylines. I thought the book was well written and easy to read.

I'm all for a cute rom-com with a love for cats and that's just what this is. It's cute, it's quirky, there is a lot of cat talk. Not a whole lot happens, but it kept me entertained.

I actually enjoyed this book, but i admit i did not love it like i hoped i would. A Love Catastrophe was funny and charming, while also having some heavy topics included.

If you are a cat person, you will enjoy the book's portrayal of Prince Francis, which is the sphinx cat that Miles enlists Kitty's help to care for a his mother's dementia progresses. There are a lot of cat puns, which were simultaneously hilarious and cringey.

Miles and Kitty's relationship progression is not bad, but I did feel like it lacked romance. It wasn't quite instalove, but the dislike to infatuation to love was pretty quick. I feel like it could have developed better, instead of developing due to essentially a trauma bond.

What I really loved about the book though was the humor was offset by real world events that added depth to Miles and Kitty. Miles is dealing with his mother, who has a pretty advanced stage of dementia, as well as the lingering guilt he feels about his brother's death when they were kids. Kitty is dealing with feelings of guilt over her father's passing. It was nice that the characters were able to display empathy towards each other, even if it did toe the line of trauma bonding. It was clear both characters needed therapy to deal with their family issues.

Yikes. I love cats as much as the next person, but this was a very unhealthy obsession of cats. The sheer mentioning of cats on almost every page made me think our FMC, Kitty, might have something mentally off about her, but she didn’t. Just loved cats. But enter Miles, who is seeking someone to help his mama. I love families that are close in stories and there were many moments of family in this story, but some sad and heavy. Dementia is spoken about a lot, which is a difficult topic for many, but it lends a hand to the storyline overall. In the end, definitely not my favorite Helena Hunting book, but still a decent read overall.

DNF’ing. An adult woman who loves cats is supposedly saying to other adults things like “bless mew” and “right meow.”

No.

(I didn't include a star rating on goodreads)

Thank you to @netgalley and @librofm for the ebook arc and ALC of this HILARIOUS story!⁣

Imagine a pet sitter who has turned into an Internet sensation and then a bit of a curmudgeon who just has a lot on his plate…with an unfortunate allergy and the need for a pet sitter.⁣

It’s a recipe for success, is what I’m saying.

Kitty Hart is known as the Kitty Whisperer because she can understand cats and their behavior, thus making her cat-sitting gig a full-time job.

Miles Thorn is in need of a cat sitter for his mom’s cat because he doesn’t like cats and he’s allergic to them.

Miles hires Kitty, and their meet cute is not so cute when he misjudges what she’s going to do and tackles her. She forgives him, and she ends up agreeing to be his cat-sitter.

I’ve read one other Helena Hunting book, and it was a hockey romance. It was very different from this book as it was angsty and emotional whereas this book was more of a romcom. It wasn’t bad, just different, I suppose.

While there are some hilarious moments, there are also many cringey moments as well. I guess it made sense though, because that cringey quirkiness was true to Kitty’s character. There were also some deeper topics explored (death of a family member, ailing parent), which added some emotional aspects.

Miles and Kitty had different personalities, but they both experienced something tragic and blamed themselves. They really understood each other, and they were there to support each other, especially Miles. He fell so hard, and he even did what he could to protect himself from having allergic reactions to cats. But he was really so sweet when Kitty was falling apart.

This was a quick and easy read. It was hilarious, heartwarming, and low angst. There was also healing and letting go for both characters.

Bonus: The pets were adorable! Prince Francis, the cat, especially.

This book was cute but a little all over the place. It struggled with the shift from enemies to lovers like many books do -- the enemies phase shifted a bit too quickly for me -- and by the second half of the book, the personalities of both MCs was entirely different than it was in the first half.

I found the cat obsession a bit much -- you can love an animal without being juvenile about it.

That said, I appreciated the way the book handled grief -- of both those who are dead and those who are absent mentally.

This was so cute. The opposites attract trope is super literal, but I don't hate it. There's not a huge third act breakup in this book, so if that's something you hate in a romance, then this would be a good fit for you. There is an emotional twist, but it fits well. Recommend for readers who enjoy the old standbys - Tessa Baily, Penny Reid, etc.

A Love Catastrophe is so much fun! Helena Hunting is fantastic at combining heart with humor, creating lovable characters, and giving us sweet rom coms.

Kitty and Miles are adorable together! She is a quirky cat lover and he comes across as an uptight dog lover, and they give us a fantastic grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract romance. They are totally different and they definitely start off on the wrong foot with a hilarious meet-cute; however, once they truly get to know each other, there is no doubt these two fit.

"Our eyes meet and lock, and I feel this connection we share in more than just the physical contact. Under her sunshine are some dark clouds, and it’s a reminder that we all have struggles."

The story starts with Miles needing help from Kitty and then Miles is able to be there for her when she needs him the most. Both go through realistic challenges that pulled at my heartstrings and in the end they were perfect for each other.

I love the way the story moves. It’s fast paced and entertaining and kept a smile on my face even when we are shown the more difficult parts of their lives. And though there is very little drama, there is still so much heart.

Overall, I loved it. It’s a wonderful love story with awkward moments that make you laugh and romantic moments that make you swoon.

Oh, and I have to add that I love love love the cats and dogs in the story. Their unique personalities were hysterical and I loved their roles in Kitty and Miles lives. I also enjoyed the other secondary characters who mean so much to them. From family to friends, these two have hearts full of love, and at the end of this story, mine was full too.

Helena is always a fave! This one was light and fun, the perfect grump/sunshine combination. The cat aspect added a fresh and hilarious take on the standard romcom!

This was a charming and cute romance perfect for animal lovers. The cat jokes push up against the limit of overly cutesy, but I thought that the connection that brought the main characters together felt authentic and sweet as they navigate some tough life situations.

Thank you to NetGalley, Grand Central Publishing/forever, and Helena Hunting for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Kitty Hart is a professional cat sitter with a social media influence and Miles needs help with his mom's cat while she is in the hospital. Kitty and Miles get to know each other throughout her stint with cat sitting for him and eventually become friends.

I enjoyed A Love Catastrophe, animals, heartfelt moments, taking care of parents, and Kitty and Miles relationship. I thought it was a quick easy read romance, but enjoyed the read.

Helena Hunting is one of my auto reads!
I love all her characters and Kitty and Miles are no different - I am a cat mom so I loved all the cat stuff which just made me smile!

Kitty is a little bit of a hot mess and Miles is a little uptight but together they make a perfect couple.

If you love cats and you need a good chuckle then read this sweet book.

I have really loved some of Helena Hunting's previous books, and I am a major cat lover, so I really wanted to love this book. While I did not love it, it was a sweet and humorous read. The shenanigans got a tad out of hand at times and there were some really awkward moments that made me uncomfortable for the characters. I also think it was trying to be both light-hearted and punny while also addressing heavy topics like grief and dementia and that combo didn't really work for me.
