Helena Hunting is an auto-buy author for me. I love her writing, her characters, and the love that she teases out from them. However, this book was a hard read for me. Perhaps it was because I skimmed some of the ratings before I started and got lost in all the cat love. I’m not a cat person, at all… so the die hard devotion to the feline friends was not super accessible to me.
Kitty Hart was a cute character — I had an over exaggerated house wife look in my mind for her. Honestly, she was a cute character, but it killed me that Kitty was obsessed with cats. It was just too much for me.
Miles was a sweet love interest who didn’t really have me swooning, but kept the story going.
I appreciated that the conflict was not overly dramatic, but at the same time, some times you want those heart strings to be pulled a little harder.
This book will hit well for a lot of people, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me.

I’m processing this review by disclosing I am not a cat person however, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kitty has her own business as a “kitty whisper” a.k.a. a cat caretaker. Miles needs someone to care for his mom’s cat. The two of these people coming together was just perfect high found Miles to be hilarious and really enjoyed how he did statistical analysis for an NHL team. Can this be called a hockey adjacent romance? Kitty is cheesy at times, but she is so certain of herself. It’s interesting in the book when she starts to have some self-doubt, but the writing was so impeccable and relatable as she self-reflected. I really enjoyed how hers and Miles’ journeys reflected to each other, and they were able to grow as people throughout the book. Again, the writing was flawless; the plot line was also flawless. The chemistry and the banter between Kitty and Miles was top notch. The supporting cast added a really great depth to the story without being overwhelming. I loved the third act twist. It wasn’t miscommunication. It wasn’t a break up. It was such a good way to add excitement, but also show the final conclusion of the story. So well done!I just couldn’t put this book down. It was finished at 2 AM and I regret nothing. 4.75⭐️, 2🌶

I enjoyed this book but definitely not as much as I thought I would.
I think it’s because the MMC like flipped a 180 from the beginning of the book when we meet him to about 40-50% into it. Because of this we get no true enemies to lovers (a trope I absolutely love) and that disappointed me. If only he’d stayed true to himself. I had a hard time connecting with Kitty, our FMC as well. She’s apparently a social media influencer as well and yet we never see her post! Honestly I see nothing these two have in common beyond the fact that they each have a tragic history with a death in the family. I don’t even know why they like each other but they have sex real quick! We don’t even really get him interacting at work beyond a couple statements in a phone call. Taking care of his mother took everything and then left no room for anything else. I do however think she did a great job writing his current grief and issues with his mother and really did justice to that side character.
Honestly the furry and not furry animals stole the whole book and had more character than the humans.
I really love this author and will for sure read more of her but this was sadly not a book for me which is sad because I love cats (and dogs)!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I love romance books with cats. It’s actually better when it has cats. I don’t make the rules, it’s facts lol. Anyways, obviously this one had cats. I love the title, “A Love Catastrophe” is so clever. Everyone was cute here. Kitty, Miles, the cats, dogs, literally everyone. Despite of Miles being a cat hater (at first) he’s the one who’s more like a cat than Kitty. How ironic. He’ll probably hate that comparison lol. I love the level of depth that Helena Hunting gave to her characters. You can really sympathize with them. I like this book. It was okay. I don’t hate it, I don’t love it. It was okay.

Love Catastrophe is…. different but awkwardly sweet and precious perfection. Kitty and Miles are truly a match made in heaven. I laughed, I cried, I cringed. But overall, I fell in love with this couple and enjoyed seeing the unlikely pair come together and grow in their past grief and current heartaches.
I should mention that I am allergic to cats, and thus actually afraid of them. I also got a concussion (that really made me love Kitty so much more bc I can relate to much of her awkwardness) after I started reading, and I was thoroughly delighted…. So if you love cats and aren’t seeing wavey doubles this book is bound to be a favorite!
Also, Wilfred. 💙

Oh boy....this book was something else.
This book had so much potential but it ended up being kinda cringy and way too cheesy. I really liked Miles's character but Kitty came off as a caricature. I get that she owns a cat-sitting business but she was just so so much that it came off a bit childish.
Speaking of childish, the sex-scenes made me uncomfortable and used language such as "bingo button" and I kid you not, Miles says, "Hello Ladies" the first time he sees her boobs. I ended up skimming the other sex scenes after that.
I did like the conflict in this book though. It wasn't a third act breakup!! And I feel like the resolution made sense. The book is also quite emotional, dealing with dementia and the loss of a parent and child. This does seem out of place in a wacky book such as this, but I feel like it was handled very well.

A Love Catastrophe is the perfect rom com! I loved all the laughable moments, the awkward conversations with their respective families and all the things that makes a rom com great are all found in this book.
Kitty is a cat whisperer who is famous on social media which is how Miles finds her to take care of his mother's cat. Their first introductions are hilarious as they both make fools of themselves once they meet. Allergic reactions, a tackle, and so much more keep them both on their toes throughout the book.
Miles and Kitty are a great opposites attract couple, where they shouldn't have any common ground, and yet they both respect and love the things that make them different. Overall, this book is relatively clean, but the chemistry between these two is off the charts!

Do you like cats? Do you like quirk? Do you like emotional depth, mutual healing, and excellent chemistry? Then I have a feeling you may like this book!
"A Love Catastrophe" was a quick and fun romp through the chaotic life of Kitty Hart, The Kitty Whisperer (no, not THAT kind of kitty!) She finds herself falling for a grumpy hockey nerd with a heart of gold who would do literally anything to make her happy. This book had great chemistry, offset my a healthy spoonful of initial awkwardness that made the whole romance really come together. Both characters had their quirks, but I loved how well they complimented each other. The portrayal of grief really took it to the next level for me, it was unexpectedly deep and added another layer to the characters.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book! Helena Hunting always does a great job, and this is one of my favourites from her.

I wanted to LOVE this. I really really REALLY wanted to love this. But... it didn`t give me all the feels.
This is the story of a girl named Kitty. Who is a cat sitter/ cat whispering extraordinaire. She's been able to make a living out of helping humans with their cats, she's built a solid social media presence, and she's best friends with a girl named Kat.
Seriously.
Then we have Miles - he's a numbers guy. He just started his dream job working for an NHL team in Toronto and he is 100% a dog person.
Our story begins when Miles needs to hire Kitty to take care of his mother's cat, Prince Francis. They (Kitty and Miles) do NOT have an adorable meet-cute and basically leave their first meeting not thinking very fondly of the other person.
Obviously that changes. This is a romance novel after all.
My issue with this book is that it tried to make it about too many things: we deal with loss of a parent, loss of a sibling, memory loss, inability to move beyond grief. Then you add an incident that becomes all about social media influence and Kitty's reputation and business - and it just feels like it is too much.
I didn't really connect with this book. Like I said, I wanted to, but it just didn't happen.
I'm giving this 2.5 stars ... it didn't tick my boxes and I honestly felt like I was dragging myself to read it.
Sorry Helena Hunting! I usually really enjoy your books - I feel like we were trying to get another "Meet Cute" and "Kiss My Cupcake" and it became about more than just pushing the love story along and dealing with ONE thing in a character's life.

As a cat lover myself, I was really excited about this story, plus I have previously read books from this author so I was familiar with her. I was also drown to the author, because I thought that Clipped wings was a very powerful story.
Overall this is a fun comedy, so when you are looking for an easy read this one is definitely for you. I loved dual first person point of view. Miles and Kitty seemed awkward at first but they grow on you. I am giving this book 4 stars.

I am not a cat person. In fact, they scare the sh*t out of me. With that said, I adored this book. So funny, well written, and it sucks you right in.

This is a grumpy x sunshine rom-com. Kitty Hart is a cheerful cat sitter, who has an easier time relating to animals than people. Miles Thorn is a grumpy hockey analyst who loathes cats. They get thrown together when Miles needs a caretaker for his mothers cat while she is in the hospital.
This was well written, and a quick cheerful read. However, even though I love cats I found Kitty Hart to be a bit much. Her repeated use of cat puns made me cringe, It was extremely cringey when she referred to her clitoris as her “bingo button”. She was just too sunshiny for me to really connect with. Grumpy, sarcastic Miles was much more my speed.
I think that others might enjoy this book, but it really wasn’t for me.
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC of this book to read and review.

I really loved this book. In many ways I felt like it was written just for me. Kitty is so unapologetically a cat lady and as a woman who talks to her cat and is obsessed with cats, I loved seeing that. Also all of the social awkwardness and putting your foot in your mouth - I feel that. One of the big things Miles and Kitty share is having lost a family member and gotten stuck living in a home that hasn’t moved on. While I haven’t lost anyone quite that close, I did lose my grandma recently and it was really tough. These parts of the book really made me sad but it was also kind of cathartic and a comfort to read. I am really hoping we will get a second book featuring Hattie and Josh - and more cats!!!

Kitty and Miles bring you a dog lover and a cat whisperer as an unlikely combo.
I’ll admit I’m not a cat hater by any means but the cat love was a little too over the top for me. There were some heavy themes (death of a parent, dementia) that just didn’t match up with the playfulness of the texting and cat jokes for me.
Definitely a case of it’s not you it’s me. The writing is breezy and would be a great choice to curl up on a lazy summer day. With a cat in your lap of course.

This story of an adorkable professional cat-sitter and sweet hockey data nerd was such a great idea, but unfortunately the execution was a struggle for me.
I LOVE a cat pun, I'm a cat lover, but our female MC, Kitty, and the cat-centric silliness didn't balance with the heavier topics for me. I think if the cat humor had been toned down, even just a little bit, it would have balanced better with the coinciding heart-breaking storylines involving parent dementia and the griefs of past deaths of a parent and sibling/child. Or equally, if those heavier storylines were softened, not so many tragedies, it would have made more sense for me.
That aside, I loved the awkwardness of this pair. They were such awkward flirts, constantly putting their respective feet in their mouths. Cringeworthy, but you smiled sweetly reading it. I loved that there wasn't a third act breakup and that third act tension came from a different and external source which actually allowed the couple to rely on and comfort each other and grow together. And I really enjoyed the pet characters and pet antics. This was truly a very sweet romance between Kitty and Miles! For me, less of the caricature and more of the authenticity Kitty showed in almost every other aspect of her life, would have made it a winner.
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

A love catastrophe was a story so up my alley especially where cats are involved.
Being a huge cat lover, this book made me smile and laugh alot!
I found Kitty to be quirky, but also rather endearing. Her capacity to look after animals the way they should be treated is a testament to her character. Her business is also something unique and caring for other people’s cats may be a job that’s somewhat out there but its booming.
She meets Miles, when he asks her to care for his mothers cat. They are so chalk and cheese, its really quite entertaining as the storyline progresses.
These two definitely grow on each other and the chemistry seems to be hard to ignore. I loved the direction the story went and I found this to be such an witty, wonderful read!
I loved the characters, the banter and especially how it ended. Definitely a story not to be missed!

This book was a light-hearted, airy, breezy romance that did cover some hard-hitting topics.
I loved all things feline in this book. The cat business/care-taking was amazing to read about, especially the meet-cute between Kitty & Miles.
As much as I liked the premise, the story kind of felt flat for me. I think I needed more from it? Nevertheless, I appreciated the lack of any dramatic third act breakup.
<i>Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.<i>

I really enjoyed this quirky little romance between Kitty and Miles. These two don't have the best first impression; but with them, first impressions don't mean everything.
Miles is going through a lot with his new job and his mother being sick. The last thing that he wants to be doing is taking care of his mother's cat, especially since he is a dog person (the horror!). So he enlists Kitty, The Kitty Whisperer, to help take care of his mother's pride and joy.
Kitty instantly falls in love with the cat (Prince Francis). and agrees to help Miles out a few times a day. But that turns into much more when Prince Francis is taking his loneliness out on all of Miles's mothers belongings.
With Kitty being around so much, her and Miles go from enemies to friends and have this blossoming friendship, which I loved. That eventually turned into lovers. Their journey was so adorable! They were totally different people in their everyday lives, but when they come together, they are each others missing piece.

I've read many Helena Hunting books and always look forward to something new from this author. A Love Catastrophe is what I've come to expect from Ms. Hunting if I'm looking for a sweet, feel-good rom-com with quite a few laughs thrown in. Miles and Kitty are so awkward and sweet together that you can't help but fall in love with them and hope for their HEA. Add in some furbabies -- both dogs & cats -- and it was a delightful read. That being said, there are some thought-provoking, heartbreaking moments that also makes this a contemporary romance as well. It's always a joy to read Helena Hunting books and this was no different. I'm grateful to have been given the opportunity to read and review an advance copy of this book through NetGalley.

Miles & Kitty
Miles is looking for someone to take care of his moms cat while she's in the hospital. In steps, or trips rather, cat sitter extraordinaire, Kitty. They don't get off on the right paw, but slowly ease into a friendship as they each deal with their own family guilt.
I don't mind cats ~ my girl Stubb lived to be 19 years and 10 months old, but holy catness batman, it's a lot! Her name is Kitty and her bff's name is Kat, cats on the shirts, on the car, even on her underoos...
Both of their mom's situations were sad and broke my heart. One is still grieving from losing her husband and the other is slowly losing her memories from dementia. The way each was there for the other was nice and comforting.
Overall, not my favorite Helena read, but there were some funny moments to go with some rolling the eyes moments, AND I love, love, love that there was no 3rd act breakup!!
