As a cat lover I might be biased but this was a purr-fect rom com for me. I don’t know how I haven’t picked up a @helenahunting book before this one but I have some definite catching up to do. A Love Catastrophe was a curl up and get cozy book.
Kitty Hart, cat sitter extraordinaire, is fantastic with her four legged and furry clients but is not as comfortable with their human companions, or humans in general. Her new client Miles is no exception, and after the words worst introduction between the two, it’s extra irritating for Kitty that she can’t stop thinking about him. Kitty and Miles will face their pasts and maybe a future alongside a cast of loveable fur friends.
This book is everything I love in a rom com, funny, sweet, cozy and avoids the tired tropes and unnecessary drama so many of them fall into. I am an instant fan of Helena Hunting after reading this. Unfortunately I could not purr-suade my kitty to pose with my book but she enjoyed some cuddles with me while I was reading it. If you want to curl up with this one it releases on June 12 2023.

I'm a cat lover, so the premise of the book appealed to me. I've lived with a cat from H*#l, so I can identify with the frustration. You need a lot of patience and a lot of bandaids to make friends.
I'm not much of a hockey fan, but the cat aspect of the story appealed to me. Helena Hunting didn't disappoint.

A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting is a cute and safe romance book that's perfect for a light and easy read. While Hunting is known for her quirky characters, this book didn't quite hit the mark for me. The characters lacked depth, which made it difficult for me to care about them.

The story was also a bit too safe and sweet for my taste. I was hoping for more conflict and complexity, but the plot was predictable and lacked nuance. Plus, there were a few cringey moments that made me roll my eyes.

However, if you're in the mood for a simple and feel-good romance, then A Love Catastrophe might be just what you need. It's a quick and easy read that's perfect for a lazy afternoon. Just don't expect too much depth or complexity from the characters or plot.

As a cat and hockey lover, I wanted to read this book so bad and was so excited to read about Kitty the Kitty Whisperer and the grumpy hockey analyst, Miles. This book is filled with the cutest banter, adorable cats (especially Prince Francis who I absolutely adore) and a love story to boot! I absolutely gobbled this book up in just a couple of days. Cute and super fun story!

Thanks to NetGalley for my gifted copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
A Love Catastrophe is a cute story about Miles who is a NHL analyst and Kitty a cat sitter. The characters were cute, they had a sort of meet cute. However, the play was just ok and the story seemed to drag on. I did enjoy the HEA but wished it had come a litter earlier in the story. 3.25 stars rounded down.

This was a cute and quick romance read. Dog lover Miles hires Kitty, The Kitty Whisperer, to take care of his mom's troublesome cat while she is in the hospital and he is traveling for work. They have a disastrous meet-cute, and Kitty is turned off by his cat-aversion. But maybe turned on by his sexy demeanor? She agrees to keep watching the cat, because, it's for the cat's well being not because she is catching feelings for him.

I say this with love, Miles and Kitty are...kinda dorky. And awkward. And it works. They have a very Nick and Jess from New Girl vibe, which is kinda refreshing. Usually you just have the Manic Pixie Dream Girl and the smooth hunk as her counterpart. These two are well-matched bumbling fools falling in love.

Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing/Forever for the ARC for my honest review.

I love Helena Hunting older books. The last couple has been falling flat for me. This one was cute but blah.

Thank you Netgalley and Forever publishing for a digital copy of this book for my honest opinion

Another hit from Helena Hunting!
As a cat lover myself, I loved all the cat puns in this book and the title! Puns and cats aside, this novel had a lot of heart, humor, romance and spice!!
Both main characters experienced loss in their lives and were not really moving forward until they worked through the trauma together. Very beautiful and moving! Glad to read more depth in their characters!

Bumbling. Kitty Hart is a cat whisperer. She has a social media following as she shows her expertise in all things animal related. Miles Thorn hires Kitty to help care for his mom's cat as his mom's health is in decline. The pratfalls, the tripping, the awkwardness just became too much for me. Once is fine but it was a constant in the story which just gave the impression that these characters are complete idiots. This is my 13th Helena Hunting novel so I will clearly keep reading her. This book was just not for me and I adore cats.

4.5 Stars Helena Hunting is an auto-read/auto-buy author for me and I was so excited to get this ARC from Netgalley! She's known for her Pucked and Spark House series, but her standalones are just as great, and A Love Catastrophe is no exception.

Kitty Hart is a cat sitter who has become semi-famous on social media for her business, the Kitty Whisperer. Even though business is going better than ever, Kitty feels stuck, especially since she's still living at home with her mother and sister and their home hasn't changed at all in the decade since her father passed away. Everything begins to change after she falls face-first into her new client, Miles Thorn. Miles has hired Kitty to watch after his mother's Sphynx, Prince Francis, while she's being treated in the hospital. Their first few meetings are disastrous, but Kitty later realizes that she misjudged Miles. Even though they seem to be complete opposites, their attraction is strong and they begin to build a friendship.

Ultimately, the story is about learning to accept change despite the fear of it. I loved the main characters and how they were able to build a genuine friendship first based on mutual understanding of the experience of grief. Both have faced loss in similar ways and are able to offer just the right support for the other person. In addition to being heartfelt, this was also hilarious, especially all of the kitty hijinx and Kitty's general adorableness. Highly recommend this one!

this was… an experience.

i don’t think i was the target audience for this book and that’s ok. it was just very cringey and awkward to the point where i was uncomfortable. their sexy moments felt very forced and awkward is the main word i have to describe them. the cat puns were excessive. i get that it was about a cat-training/watching business owner but she literally says “oh my catness.”

the plot was just very emotional yet didn’t really grip me. felt like there was too much happening while also forcing a romance in the midst of it. and the author gave more details than necessary for mundane activities in the storyline. I felt like I could've skipped multiple pages at a time and not felt like I really missed anything important.

ALSO- i was extremely uncomfy with her calling her cl*t her “bingo button.” just me- but i really didn’t enjoy this and was a little disappointed since i’ve liked other books by this author.

I was instantly attracted to the synopsis of this book, being a huge cat lover myself, but I was hoping to like this book a little more than I actually did. I will say that once I embraced the cheesy cat-puns it did get better. I think being a cat person is a must for this story.

What I liked about the book:
- The love of animals, especially cats, came across throughout the story.
- I liked Kitty's sunshine personality and her growth throughout the book.
- The underlying storyline about loss brought an added depth
- I thought Miles was a nice love interest and there wasn't too much drama between the two characters
- I enjoyed where the character Kitty ended up and liked the way the author incorporated cat rescue and rehabilitation

What didn't work for me:
- There were a lot of cringey moments throughout the book. Quite a few awkward, clumsy encounters when Miles and Kitty first met. I did not mind a few of the silly moments, but there were too many in my opinion.

Overall, a cute story that was enjoyable.

For someone referred to as the “Kitty Whisperer,” it’s no surprise Kitty Hart is all about cats. She has a flourishing cat-sitting business and is the first line of defense against misbehaving felines. Uptight NHL analyst Miles Thorn is admittedly more of a dog person, so he can’t deny there’s no one better to help care for his ailing mother’s Sphynx than Kitty. But the cat needs more sessions that the two anticipated, a problem compounded by the awkwardness and animosity lingering from Miles and Kitty’s first meeting.

While it’s certainly very quirky and reads like a romance, A Love Catastrophe has substance and tackles heavier topics than one might expect. This results in the book being more slice of life than plot-forward, which I actually enjoyed quite a bit. I also appreciate that the book doesn’t follow the same formula common in many contemporary romance novels when it comes to the conflict.

However, the conflict feels a little too unbelievable and is over about as quickly as it starts. And I love cats, but the excessive, cringey cat puns become grating very quickly. I like the main characters and think they compliment each other nicely, but ultimately they’re not memorable.

Overall, this is a sweet, albeit average, love story that helped guide me out of a fog left by finishing a four-book mystery thriller series.

Although there’s nothing problematic with this story, it’s also not exciting, intriguing, steamy, nail-biting or any other adjectives that would make it memorable, Honestly, it’s just boring and forgettable.

Hunting’s books are hit-or-miss for me. I recently read Make a Wish, the final title in The Spark House trilogy, and loved it. Unfortunately, Miles and Kitty, the romantic couple in A Love Catastrophe, lack chemistry and other than sharing the grief and misplaced guilt of losing a beloved family member in their teens and dealing with mothers (and Kitty herself) who seem stuck in the past, I didn’t get a clear sense of things they had in common. He works for the NHL as a data analyst (a math nerd in a cool organization) and she has built her obsession with cats into a lucrative business. (There are some things that indicate she might be autistic-coded.) There’s an initial grumpy-sunshine vibe until Kitty realizes that Miles just had a lot on his plate dealing with his mother’s early-onset dementia. Otherwise, it’s just a vanilla relationship with no “will they or won’t they” conflict.

I also found Kitty’s use of what I call cat-isms (pawsitively and Thank catness instead of goodness, for example) and her platitudes at the end of several chapters to be really annoying. Overall, this was was a miss for me.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from Forever Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

This book started out cute. Quirky, slightly awkward main characters. Cat person (Kitty) vs. dog person (Miles) I was entertained by maybe the first 3rd of the book.

Background: I am a cat person. I for sure bought some recordable buttons to train mine in the middle of this story. I have attempts to walk my little fur ball with a harness and a leash on the street of a big city. But this book…WAY too cat focused. Prince Francis should not be my favorite character in this rom com. The multiple scenes of him hiding amongst and knocking over ceramic gnomes? Only funny the first time. Long discussions about litter boxes between Miles and Kitty? Please, just no.

There is a great deal of bonding between Miles and Kitty over a history of family trauma, grief, and their current relationships and stressors related to their mothers. I’m not opposed to serious topics in rom coms but this was too much and didn’t balance well with the cheesy cat content…not to mention the cringey intimacy.

They pretty much go from a few kisses before they are even together to declaring their feelings with full on open door sex. Except the door is closed and the cat is scratching on it during the scene. I almost stopped reading. Their chemistry doesn’t get less over the top cringey after that either.

The rest of the book has just lost its plot. The third act conflict and resolution just falls flat and I honestly I struggled to keep reading.

I really loved this book! What’s better than a cat person and a dog person falling in love? Helena Hunting writing it! I forgot how much I enjoy her words and I couldn’t put this down once I started reading.

What a feel good book about moving past grief, people coming together when they need someone and being true to yourself.

Kitty owns a cat sitting business and Miles is dealing with health issues with his mother who has a sphinx cat. Kitty has an automatic dislike for Miles because he definitely is a dog person and not a cat person by his horrible comments. However, the more time they have together the more her walls start to come down.

I thought this was a great rom-com with some substance to it.

Thank you #NetGalley for the advance copy.

Full disclosure, I am a dog person. I do like cats too so I wasn’t surprised I did find myself enjoying this title.

I found some of slapstick comedy a little over the top at some points, but I did like the story as a whole. The bonding moments between Kitty and Miles with their past family tragedies, and current realistic ones, coupled with light hearted moments made this a well balanced read.
