Woaa the tension between Esme and Elliot realy scream 'Unfinish business'. Many question appear while reading this book. Is Esme didnt see the red flag when he not trying to reach out after breaking up? Is Esme dosnt feel weird meet Elliot behind Morgan back? Hang out with him?another red flag. Or this is something ok out there? I think its me the possessive one. Lol.

What is it with Elliot? He dosnt want to lose Morgan but cant force himself to release Esme. Why oh why Esme still thinking the possible of reconcile? Did she not thinking Eliot will do the same thing to her too? Double red flagss Grrr..

When the Epiphany moment happend... YASSS YOU GO GIRLLL!!!

It is sooo sweet when David realise something different in Esme. Without Esme realise she little bit teritory to David and David very jealous man lol, but he put boundry and think Esme off limit only partner business.

Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

The Ex Next Door
by Jo Platt
I didn't really get into the book . It seemed too much of the same old same. Not really much to really laugh out loud, just a basic book.

This book was really fun to read. Not too much substance but interesting and help my interest the entire time. I would recommend it for a beach read or as an in between-er of some more serious books.

Not my favourite book by Jo Platt, but an enjoyable read all the same. I did guess part way through how it was going to end. I do wish the author had allowed the read a bit more time with the couple at the end, but that's the only negative. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have got to say, I did not see the ending coming.

This book has all of the qualities of a good romcom; the pining ex, the best friend who sets the heroine straight and the charming older chap who gives advice without realising it. These qualities allowed for 'The Ex Next Door' to become a charming read that I couldn't put down - literally!

On another note, the short chapters meant that the book felt as if it took barely any time to read, with each of the 39 sections being a tiny number of pages taking just minutes to read.

‘A laugh-out-loud romance of second chances and near misses, perfect for fans of Mhairi McFarlane and Jenny Colgan.’

I found this slightly difficult to get into at first, I think mainly due to the lack of character description, I struggled to picture the characters in my mind. However, after persisting, I did really enjoy the rest of the book.

The storyline was something that I think a lot of us can relate to and I loved the additional characters and adored Cass and Lloyd and what they brought to the story.

I did feel like the ending had been a bit rushed and I’d have liked to have found out more about Esme & David’s relationship.

Overall, a nice story with a happy ending, I just wish there had been more depth to the main characters.

Thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for the advanced copy of The Ex Next Door.

This book didn’t go the route I thought it would, and I’m very delighted by that! The ending was perhaps a little abrupt—I think an epilogue or a little more time with the couple would have benefited the story. Great characters and an unexpected turn made this, my first book by Jo Platt, a pretty entertaining read!

Unfortunately, this was not for me. I struggled to like the characters due to their moral choices (without spoiling too much). The writing was developed well however the plot felt forced and predictable.

I was lucky enough to get an early copy of this - thank you net gallery! And here's my thoughts;

I love love love the friendships, the hairdresser is articulated perfectly, I mean who hasn't been there with theirs?
I love doug, and the fact that they help each other and they just know when each other is needed.

Cass is spectacular, I'd read about her and her clients all day long.

The ex storyline is so good, the wanting them together then not, and then the TWIST. Oh my god, yes GIRL empowerment.

And the ending just gave me all the happy feels.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Easy, fun, different and cute. A 5* read for me.

My first Jo Platt book and it’s certainly not the last. I really enjoyed reading My Ex Next Door! A must read for romance and contemporary women’s fiction readers.

I had no idea where this was going or where it would end up until the end, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing—it kept me entertained and engaged. I wish we had gotten to see more of David and Esme’s relationship after all the waiting we endured from beginning to end. I also wished there had been an epilogue—I feel like every contemporary romance needs one. Overall, I rated this a solid 3.5 and would recommend it to friends.

Thank you NetGalley and Canelo for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Quick Summary: A seeing is believing romance...with an unexpected twist

My Review: The Ex Next Door by Jo Platt was a subtle nod to a topsy turvy romance. This Women's Fiction book was so different than I expected. The love story that was really happening didn't become evident until it was right in my face.

Initial Reaction: I was glued to my seat for this one. The more I kept reading, the more I needed to know what was truly going on. I dare say, the author kept me guessing during the majority of the book.

About the Characters: The characters in this book were incredibly diverse and very colorful. Some of them were quirky and cute, while others came across as annoyingly toadish. While reading, there were multiple times when I came to realize that the most wonderful characters (who had fooled me into believing their innate goodness) were just downright not so, and the most peculiar characters (who I was getting weirdo vibes from) were the most charming.

What I Loved: There were many things to love about this book.

One of the things that captured my attention about this lovely book was the book title and the book cover. (I'm counting them as one, of course.) The title snagged my interest simply because of what it implies. I was immediately considering all sorts of romantic formulas based on the "perfect title." The cover seemed so playful and fun; it was lighthearted, even. I just knew, based on the cover, that this book would be special.

The direction the story took was another thing I loved. I would never have guessed what was going on if I hadn't seen it (read it) for myself. (Good one, Ms. Platt. Score!) The surprise that shall not be mentioned - the unexpected twist - was both brilliant and sweet.

Finally, the third thing I genuinely adored was the friend brigade surrounding Esme. Her supports were decent and good people. I really liked how they rallied around her when she needed "a shoulder to cry on."

About the Conclusion: At the end of the day, this story was about life, love, relationships, growth, and finding personal truths. Esme learned who she really was and discovered what she really wanted. Elliot showed his true colors. David became brave. And still, there was more.

My Takeaways: There were a number of takeaways, in my opinion.

1) Trust your instincts.
2) Be true to yourself.
3) See with your heart versus with your eyes. (When it comes to relationships, we can often fool ourselves into seeing what we want to see when we focus on the superficial.)
4) Appreciate the beautiful things right in front of you.

My Final Say: This is a worthy read that will have you thinking about the upside down, wonderfully challenging nature of love. Readers who enjoy a comeback story from someone who has suffered a heartbreak will undoubtedly like this book. It reads like a Women's Fiction book, in the best way.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I try so hard not to write spoilerish reviews but I feel like I have to for this one… I couldn’t put this down because I just didn’t know where it was going to go or how I felt about the characters! At one point I’d be pro Elliot and confused about David, and then I’d be very pro David and so frustrated at Esme for not seeing him. And then I didn’t know how I felt about Elliot and Esme morally… I was actually shocked at Esme’s realisation that Elliot was trash because I had genuinely thought she was at fault for the end of the relationship and seeing the other side was actually so satisfying. This is easily a five star read for me BUT I have some complaints - after hanging on for ages for Esme and David I just wanted more than a few pages of them 😫 They were so perfect for each other and I just wanted to see a bit more of their chemistry once they realised that. Also, no epilogue - devastated.
