In every book I've read from Samantha Downing (this one included) I HATED the main characters but ironically LOVED the books. Normally I need to find some redeeming qualities in the MCs but honestly, you don't need them in her books! They are EXCEPTIONAL. This one is about a very TOXIC relationship and how things aren't always what they seem. I ate it up!

I simply adore Downing and how every one of her books have had me glued to the pages. MORE MORE MORE! And I'll never get over this dedication: "For the man who inspired this book. You're damn right I wrote about you."

As a person who has been through her share of toxic relationships... blergh... I've certainly written books in my head about the men... ahem, BOYS... that have inspired them. And this twisted love story... well hot damn did some of it resonate. And did I learn to call the cops on an ex to get his attention? No... No, I most certainly did not ;).

Listen, Ivy and Wes are quite the interesting couple. No one understands why they are continuously drawn to each other with break up upon break up but they know they'll still find their way back to each other. What everyone doesn't know is the secret they hold close. Does this secret bring them closer or ultimately and finally break them apart?

What a page turner with a few surprises looped in to really keep you flying through these chapters. I'm not entirely sure how I felt about that ending though. However, while I ponder over that, if you love twisty thrillers that keep you guessing, go pick up anything by this author. Now. Go, I said!

The queen of twisted stories and characters is back another and buckle up because you’re in for a ride with this one!

Historically, I’ve loved Samantha Downing’s stuff because she has a way with creating some wild stories with despicable characters that in some ways you can’t help but admire. Enter Wes and Ivy— two people who have the most toxic on-again-off-again relationship for years. They are the definition of “when its good its incredible, when its bad, its terrible”.

Right away you are introduced to our duo and right away you can tell that something is very off about their relationship. As the story progresses, you learn more about their history and just how toxic it is. And when I say toxic I mean they are obsessive and addicted to each other and when things go south, they take on a whole new level of vengeance. It’s almost like a cat and mouse game between them and it’s fascinating to see just how far they will go to poke each other’s buttons.

The story itself follows these two and their current relationship and there is also an undercurrent of something a little dark. Because years ago during one of their worst downfalls, they were involved in something that they have never spoken about again. And now some people on the peripheral of their lives (coworkers, etc) are noticing the cracks in their facade and their secret is close to coming out. And the question of whether they will protect or throw one another under the bus is constantly in question and was interested to understand each other psyches, especially when it come to the other person and how the viewed everyone else.

While this was a quick read, I will say that at times it felt like I couldn’t find myself fully invested. BUT, this could’ve very easily due to the fact that I read this during a very busy week where I would only reach a chapter or two in a sitting, then not pick up again for a day. So I do think that contributed to how I felt a disconnect from the story.

Overall if you like a twisty book with some strange and very unlikable characters, this might be for you!

I am sorry, Samantha Downing - after reading 40% of this book on my kindle, I simply gave up and DNF-ed it.
I had to !

The Author's previous books were sensational - but this one: Complete Fail !

There is a lot of mental domestic relationship abuse in the story, however - I would rate this book also as mental abuse to the reader:
I came super-close to throwing my kindle against the wall a few times !

The story drags on and on, the interview between Karen the cop and Ivy are being endlessly repeated in the story (It was only 1 interview about Ivy accusing Wes of doing "stalkish things" over and over...). You will note this was also about Ivy's favorite chocolate, which Wes left half eaten - OVER AND OVER ! Wes is a weirdo, just as Ivy is, and it just seemed like the author wanted to write meaningless and repeating words in the story.

I hated all characters equally.

I was not impressed at all and sometimes I was utterly confused to read the same "scene" over and over - at different points in the story.

Ms. Downing, this was seriously not one of your best !

I am utterly disappointed.

Even if I am disappointed, I hope this will be an exception.

Sorry, but would highly recommend any of her previous works, but definitely NOT this one.

I'm usually a big fan of Downing's books and think she's great at making me love her deeply unlikeable characters (hiiii, Teddy), but I couldn't stand Wes and Ivy. Their toxic dating relationship was too irritating for me, and I couldn't get into the story. This was definitely a wrong reader at the wrong time situation and not the fault of the book - I love Downing and will always consider her an auto-read author, even though this one didn't work for me.

Two toxic people, a relationship that defines them, and the consequences of their love. Wes and Ivy can’t get enough of each other every since they met at a party, their relationship being a vicious cycle of vengeful fights, property damage, arrest warrants, flowers, grand gestures, love so deep they can’t stay away from one another. No matter what fight they get in and no matter how many times they break up, they constantly cycle back to one another. Their relationship has been on and off for years, all their friends know about them.... but what no one knows is that they share a deep dark secret... after a bad fight that ends with a dead body..... now a detective is onto them and they’ll have to see if they can trust one another to survive this new threat to their relationship. This was the perfect book to read after watching the show BEEF (Netflix). Wes and Ivy are obsessed with one another, they understand each other in a way no one else can. They are toxic, they bring out the worst in each other but they can’t ever truly give up on each other. Everything is a game for them. I was truly gripped by their relationship and just how vindictive they can be. They were perfect for each other. Seriously this was such a fun read!

Samantha Downing is the Queen is writing twisted love stories! I SO look forward to her new books every year. This is the story of the ultimate twisted relationship. This couple is off the wall, doing things to each other that will make you sit back and thank your lucky stars for your own non twisted relationship! I won’t give away any spoilers but this couple definitely reminded me of another famous couple in history and I loved every second of it!

If I could give a book a standing ovation, it would be this one.

I am a huge fan of Samantha Downing. For Your Own Good and My Lovely Wife were among my most favored books by Downing. That is, until A Twist Love Story, made an appearance.

This book quite literally swept me off my feet. I was thrust right into the storyline and could not swipe the page fast enough. I fell into a trance, there was no need to tell myself "just one more chapter" as I had lost track of all time and the first page quickly turned to the last before I knew it. This book is a wild and intense ride that will have you holding your breath and fearing what lurks around the corner.

The character development was on point and everyone came to life right before my eyes. As far as the twist, it speaks for itself and I am not going to be the one to ruin it for you!

I hate being told what to do but I love telling others... Go pre-order this book. You do not want to miss this!

I flew through Samantha Downing’s A TWISTED LOVE STORY in a couple days, and this is arguably the story of the most unlikable characters in the most ****ed up relationship of all time; in what is still, somehow……a twisted love story. She got her title right, folks.

It’s a cat and mouse tale, there’s a detective (named KAREN! And believe me, she’s a Karen to her core), there’s a definite love story here, but at it’s core its truly a psychological suspense novel. Ivy and Wes are both terrible humans dealing with trauma, and they continue to fall madly in and out of love with one another while Detective Karen is hunting down a secret from their past….and that’s really all you need to know. It’s a truly wild ride, and I loved every word.

My favorite Samantha Downing book to date, and I’ve read them all; but I do still have a deep love for My Lovely Wife! It’s a close second! A TWISTED LOVE STORY is out July 18th from Berkley….! ❤️🌺☠️🩸❤️🌺☠️🩸

This is Bonnie and Clyde on steroids! If you liked My Lovely Wife for its unhinged love story this is for you! If you liked For Your Own Good’s writing style with cliff hangers and multiple POVs this is for you! Samantha Downing is truly an innovator in thrillers!

I'm normally a huge fan of Downing's books but this one just missed the mark for me. It felt like there just wasn't enough conflict other than the petty fights between Ivy and Wes. Their terrible secret was underwhelming and Karen and Bianca just annoyed me. I was happy with the ending so points for that.

Wes and Ivy have been together on and off for 10 years now. When the relationship is good, it’s great. Filled with romantic gestures, all-night conversations, and lots of passion. But when it’s bad, it’s very bad. The bad is filled with vengeful fights, damaged property, and even arrest warrants.

A Twisted Love story centers around two very morally grey main characters that I couldn't help but root for. This book was one rollercoaster ride that I did not want to get off of! I loved all of the twists and shocking turns this story took and in true Samantha Downing fashion, the ending on this one was truly remarkable.

This is my 5th read by Downing and is my new favorite by her! I could wax poetically all day for the many reasons why she's one of my favorite authors but instead, I'll just recommend not only A Twisted Love Story to you, but all of her books! I can see thriller and romance fans, as well as readers of any genre enjoying A Twisted Love Story just as much as I did.

This is the first book I’ve read by Samantha Downing - what a roller coaster ride of crazy! I couldn’t this twisty psychological thriller down,

Wes and Ivy have a truly twisted, volatile relationship. When things are good, they’re great. But when things are bad - you have no idea how bad they can get. They started dating in college and have been off and on since then. After a chance encounter a few months ago, Ivy decides she wants get get Wes’ attention - so she reports him to the police for stalking her! After a detective pays him a visit at his work, you might expect that Wes would be furious. Nope, instead it’s game on again. That begins the wild ride of A Twisted Love Story - and if you think that’s shocking, just wait!

I loved this book so much and really wish we’d get a second book with Wes and Ivy.

Another fun read from Samantha Downing! I'm a big fan of her work, and this was no exception. Downing's writing style is quick and easy to read, and I love her use of short chapters and varying perspectives - it really makes me want to keep reading, and I always end up flying through her books. This was a captivating domestic thriller about a toxic relationship in which there are bigger secrets than we first think. The only reason I'm giving this one four stars instead of five is because I felt a couple of the characters were unnecessary to the plot, but otherwise it was a really solid read.

Samantha Downing is one of my favorite thriller writers. I was super excited that I was approved for this book. Unfortunately, I DNF'ed it at about 50%. I found not much happening and was often confused by the alternating POV and changing timelines. I look forward to Downing's next book, but this wasn't for me.

Slightly unbelievable plot about an on and off couple who meet at college. Ivy, with both parents in prison, is a little eccentric and Wes seems to thrive on this eccentricity. When Ivy reports him to the police for stalking her, things get a little complicated as events from their past are discovered in the process.... A good page turner with a slightly cheesy ending and few unbelievable characters.
