Stubbles - the Baby Sea Otter by Leslie Van John

A super cute book about the sea and animals who live there.

Stubbles the Baby Sea Otter has a nightmare and also some thrilling adventures.

The illustrations are bright and beautiful and the story is quick and shows how fear can be overcome with support and encouragement.

This was cute enough, and my otter-obsessed 4 year old liked it, but I was a bit underwhelmed. It didn't seem very accurate to actual otter behavior (an otter who just learned to float alone, swimming in an ocean deep enough for a shark to chase them, without the parent? Hm). I also found it weird that the evil otter-eating shark had a name, like he's just known to cruise around and ruin families in the area but somehow someone stopped long enough to chat with him and find out his personal info.
Overall, if this had been a library checkout, I'd take it back on time and not try to get it again.

This is a story about Stubbles the sea otter and one day in the ocean. While swimming with Mother he meets his friends Sally the seal and Shelley the sea otter. He soon gets separated from his Mother and has a dream while laying on the beach. When he wakes his friends help him find his Mother. This is a story of friendship, courage and using common sense. The illustrations are very appealing especially the under water scenes. This is a great bedtime story for younger ones.

What a delightful children's book, filled with colorful illustrations, cute baby otters and amazing sea life! This story highlights a baby sea otter's adventure as he discovers the new world around him, braving the underwater of the sea. While he dips his nose, and twists and turns in his newly discovered adventure, he is distanced from his mother and worries if he'll find his way back when he runs into danger. After making his way back to his mother, he takes a nap on the safety of the beach. Dreaming of danger, he wakes with a start, finds himself to be safe and decides to go on another sea adventure with his friend. During this adventure he discovers the importance of adventuring with friends, meeting new friends, the bravery needed to move forward in the face of sometimes uncomfortable situations, and that the comforts of mom and home are always welcome at the end of a day.

Stubbles-the Baby Sea Otter is such a cute little story!
Stubbles builds his confidence and learns how to swim with his momma. This begins a whole new adventure where he meets new sea creatures and even a mermaid! I wish we saw more of his new mermaid friend though :(. In his journey he learns important skills such as problem solving and safety. ( Never go swimming alone)
The illustrations were adorable and provided many opportunities, such as mathematics, language, colors, identification, and matching skills. This is a perfect summer read and definitely something I will read to my little ones before their first swim lesson or trip to the beach!

I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.

This is a story about a couple days in the life of a baby sea otter. It included a nightmare the otter had that ended with being rescued by a mermaid. There didn't seem to be much point to the story or a lesson to learn, and I felt like the dream sequence kind of came out of left field.

The illustrations were pretty adorable though. They were bright and colorful and very eye catching, showing the story as it's being told. I don't think I'd want to read this book very many times myself because it just seemed so random to me. Overall I give it 2.3 out of 5 stars.

This picture book tells the story of a baby sea otter learning how to be safe in the ocean. He wants to go out and explore but with all of the cool and exciting things to see, comes some dangerous things too! He learns to hold hands while floating and to stay close to his family and friends. The font is clear and fairly large with a few lines of text per page. The illustrations are big and bright and help tell the story. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the age 4-7 range. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book.

Thank you NetGalley and Van John Publishing Limited for a copy of "Stubbles - the Baby Sea Otter" in exchange for my honest review.

This story has cute illustrations that will appeal to young children. It gives parents, caregivers and teachers an opportunity to to discuss trying new things and conquering the fear of unknown things. Some things to discuss are bad dreams - how they are not real and you can talk to a grown-up about them. Also the importance of not wandering away when you are out with your family.

A very cute and entertaining book about a day with baby sea otter. This could be a great book to read with my nephews and nieces. There's one thing that was on my mind, the illustrations only had smiley faces all the time, if only the illustrations had different expressions such as frightened, confused, etc so that the children could also learn the sense of danger by reading books.
Thank you NetGalley and.BooksGoSocial for this book.

This was a cute book! My kids love turtles and spotted a few in the ocean. I thought the nightmare was a little dark, but it just seemed to add some suspense and the kiddos were invested! I also really like the illustrations. They were crisp and bright. A fun book to read with my littles.
