Another fantastic Megan Miranda novel! Kept me on my toes, LOVED IT!!

I've read everything Megan Miranda has released and they never disappoint, and this one definitely hits all the marks for me. A suspenseful story of survivors who gather every year, slow burn, shocking and unlikable characters. I got literal goosebumps while readying this.

I’m not really sure how I felt about Megan Miranda’s newest release - I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. The synopsis sounded really interesting, but I think that this might have been too slow of a burn for me. That being said, I was interested enough that I wanted to know what the heck was going on, and I had a few theories - one of which was partially right! But I think in the end I have some questions that didn’t really get answered!

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada for sending me an advanced digital copy via NetGalley in exchange for review.

I always really enjoy books from Megan Miranda and can now add this one to the list! For me, it was perfect for my mood at the time of reading. I wanted a quick, fast paced thriller that was entertaining to read. This book gave me exactly that. I read it over two days and it had me hooked from the first few pages. It had a pretty decent twist at the end. It wasn't mind blowing but I did enjoy the way the story came together.

There were a number of characters to keep track of, but once I got the hang of who everyone was I found that it flowed nicely. I liked the mystery vibes and the way the story alternated between past and present. Thanks to the publisher and the author for my review copy. Be on the lookout for this one on April 11th. Overall, a great read!

WOW! This was another fantastic read by Megan Miranda. I read it in one sitting and could not put it down. Although I guessed the main twist, I absolutely loved it!

I gave this 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend to all mystery lovers.

This story tells the mystery about a group of former classmates who reunite every year to mark the anniversary of a tragic accident, this being the tenth anniversary. When one of the survivors disappear during a storm, everyone is sacred and questions their memories of the accident a decade ago.

Ten years ago, two vans crashed into a Tennessee ravine claiming the lives of multiple classmates and teachers. Nine students managed to escape the river and survive that night were changed forever. When one of the survivors dies by suicide on the anniversary of the accident, the remaining survivors make a pact to come together each year to commemorate that terrible night.

On the day of the tenth reunion, Cassidy receives a text with an obituary attached: another survivor is gone. Now they are seven—and Cassidy finds herself hurling back toward the group, wild with grief—and suspicion.

As soon as Cassidy arrives to their annual meeting place, something feels wrong this year. Another survivor goes missing just before an impending storm. Now, they’re facing the threat of closed roads and surging waters…again.

Another chilling dual timeline mystery by Megan Miranda!

10 years ago, two vans full of high school students plummeted over a cliff and into a ravine leaving 9 survivors.

With two of the survivors now dead, one missing and suspicion pointed at everyone, secrets and revelations about that fateful night will come to light.

Told from the past and present, the story unravels and we learn what really happened that night.

Things I liked:
* I loved the dual timeline! Every time we were thrust into the past and given more information about the accident I was so engrossed! I NEEDED to keep reading so that it could build and complete the night!
* The overall mood and feeling! Megan Miranda is fantastic at creating such a chilling atmosphere and The Only Survivors didn’t disappoint!

Things I didn’t like:
* I didn’t care for the present story. I just wasn’t interested or invested in any of the characters. I felt like there wasn’t enough suspense to the story to keep me engaged. I honestly kept forgetting about Amaya and that she was missing.
* I wish we would have had a bit more bang with a prologue. I was really confused for about 40% of it. I didn’t really understand how a car accident could cause a chilling mystery and so much fear about secrets in the present. Luckily around the 40% mark the past comes into place and we start to learn much more.

Overall it was an enjoyable read that will have you guessing the entire time!

Thank you to the Publishers and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster Canada as well as Megan Miranda for this eARC. The book was odd at the beginning for me. I know that Megan is good at writing a novel with many layers that leads up to the conclusion which allowed me to read on. The book started off slow but picked up and became a good read. I was happy when I got approved for this eARC and I wanted to read it right away. I will not give anything away as it is worth the read.

My rating is a 3.75

The Only Surviors slowly but surely draws you into the story of nine survivors of a horrific van accident that had them making difficult choices .

They all harbor a secret that would explode all their lives.

It is very hard to keep a secret with two let alone eight survivors.

Every year they get together for a week but in a decades time there is only seven of them alive.

Twists and turns and tension mount with every chapter. You can feel the pelting rain.

Which one of them knows more than they are letting on.

I was suspicious of all of them (even though I had my favourites).

Megan Miranda always throws in a twist and an ending I never see coming.

Grab your copy of The Only Survivors and settle in for a good nail biting read.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada, S&S/ Marysue Rucci Books for page turning read.

Megan Miranda is quickly becoming an auto buy author for me. I absolutely love the way she lays out a mystery and slowly pulls the pieces together from all angles to tell a complete story.

The Only Survivors is set in two timelines, the present where the survivors of a crash ten years ago are spending a week together, and the past which is told in reverse, beginning with the accident. This was so unique and kept me totally interested. I kept trying to work out what would be revealed next and how it would fit in as the time got earlier and earlier in the story.

Honestly this book was so good, and I'm not looking forward to the wait for the next of Miranda's books to come out.

I had a hard time with this book and didn’t feel super motivated to pick it up any any point. I felt like I was always on the other side of the glass from the story. I also didn’t care about any of the characters which I think was partly because there was a lot of telling and not a lot of showing. Lastly, I’m done with the final plot twist and the way the story came together. Perhaps it’s the thrillers I’ve read, but it didn’t work for me.
That being said, the plot twists were regular and enjoyable. The story was told well overall and I was interested throughout. I enjoyed the time-jumps to tell the story - very clever. I can see this book working for a lot of people.

This is a fast paced story that had me turning the pages as fast as I could

I really enjoyed the story and how it went back to the past and shared each characters pov of the event

Each character has their own suspicious link to what could’ve happened when they were younger. And it keeps you wondering what the truth actually is.

This was my first book from this author and the description of the plot really intrigued me! The book started off a little slow for me, it took a while to be able to distinguish each character and understand the current relationship status between everyone. However once the book got going it was quite interesting, I especially enjoyed the dual timeline perspective, the chapters from the past worked backwards and gave the reader's multiple POV's to get to know piece by piece what really happened the day of the accident, while the current timeline chapters were from Cassidy's perspective only. I could of used just a little more suspense as the pacing of the book was overall a little slow but the reveals were suspenseful and while I feel like I needed a few more chapters of detail to fully answer all the questions, I did enjoy how it all wrapped up in the end!

3.5 ⭐️

Although this one starts off a bit slow, and I guessed the main twist early on , it does have a few unexpected surprises and was a quick and enjoyable read .

The Only Survivors is the third book I’ve read by Megan Miranda and it did not disappoint!

A group of friends survived a tragic accident in high school, ten years later they continue to get together on the anniversary of the accident but this year is different. Secrets start to unravel, truths are close to coming out and Cassidy, our main character is not sure who she trusts.

I really enjoyed the dual storyline going back to the night of the accident but in reverse. I also love how Miranda’s writing gives you such vivid imagery of the setting.

Easy 4 stars. Thank you NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for an advance copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

A group of former classmates gather on the tenth anniversary of a tragic accident that took many lives of their fellow students and two teachers.

There were nine survivors, and now that number is dwindling. As much as Cassidy Bent tries to put this tragedy in the past, she gets a text about a formal survivors obituary. She finds herself back at their annual meeting place. But now there’s a massive storm coming, another survivor is missing, and now they feel like they’re being watched.

This was very slow paced. I find that with Megan Mirandas’s books it’s the same. Very slow start but a suspenseful ending. I wish the beginning had me more captivated. But I still wasn’t loving it by the end.

I had predicted the ending, however, there was a plot twist in the last few pages that I didn’t see coming at all!

There were so many characters I couldn’t really keep track of them all, and the timelines were confusing.

If it was a bit of a fast pace I think I would have enjoyed this more.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for a DRC.

The Only Survivors is available April 11.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

Once upon a time in 2019, I read Megan Miranda( The Last House Guest) and I liked it so much that I swore I would read more of her books. Sadly, I have made this promise to several other authors. 🤷‍♀️ Here I approach 2023 humble and asking for a second chance.

Novel Premise: A group of adults gathers together once a year to remember the tragic accident that took members of their school and two teachers. With two of their fellow comrades already dead and another one missing, it soon becomes clear that someone out there is watching and they want "the survivors" to reveal their secrets once and for all.

As the plot unfolds in the present from the perspective of Cassidy Bent, one of the survivors, and the past which includes snippets from the other survivors on the day of the accident, I lay fixated on my couch. I knew that somebody's perspective was unreliable but I couldn't figure out who. It was a slow-burn suspense and I did feel that some storylines( like Cassidy and the neighbor) didn't quite have a satisfying conclusion. Overall, I enjoyed it and can easily see this being made into a movie.

🚌 A school trip turns into an absolute NIGHTMARE in “The Only Survivors” by Megan Miranda!

BOOK REVIEW: 🖤🖤🖤🖤/5

A decade ago, a bus load of high school seniors crashed into a ravine. The only survivors: 9 students.

One of the survivors commits suicide on the one year anniversary of the tragedy and the remaining survivors make a pact to meet each year to commemorate what happened. But also to ensure that everyone holds the others accountable … because after all, everyone has their own secrets about what happened that night 🤐

At the ten year mark, there are only 7 out of the 9 survivors left. Is there a target on this group of survivors?? Who could be next?? 👀

“Who could fault us, really, for doing what it took to survive? We could. Only we could”.

Megan Miranda book rankings (starting with my FAVE):
1. All the Missing Girls
2. The Last House Guest
3. The Perfect Stranger
4. The Girl from Widow Hills
5. Such a Quiet Place
6. The Only Survivors
7. The Last to Vanish

Thank you kindly to @meganlmiranda @simonschusterca @netgalley for my advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review! This book releases on April 11, 2023!

I really enjoyed two previous books by this author. Both Such a Quiet Place and The Last to Vanish were four-star reads for me. I liked this one but I didn't love it. This is a slow burner and sometimes that can be a good thing as it adds anticipation but in this case, I found it a little too slow and it just didn't hit the mark for me.

I did, however, love the format of the book, going backwards in time and the two timelines of past and present but I found the large group of characters a little hard to follow and keep straight with the mix of timelines and it was hard to get an understanding of them.

I also found that the ending lacked any element of surprise as I had it figured out before I got to the reveal. Would I recommend this particular book? The answer is no. Would I read this author again? Most definitely.

Another great thriller from Megan Miranda! This one had multiple POVs, dual timelines & was full of twists & turns. It was a bit of a slower burn but there was always a new detail that dug its claws in & kept me wanting more. I was suspicious of every single character, like literally trusted no one. The ending was great, I was not expecting how it all went down!
