A great read. I was hooked right from the beginning chapters.
The Only Survivors flips between then and now as it tells the story of the only survivors from a horrific traffic accident involving vans filled with high school students. Trying to move on but stay safe, the survivors come together each year. Except this year, no one feels safe.

Highly recommended. Good read.

We all know that Megan Miranda is a queen of thriller and this book just proves it again.
10 years ago there was an accident. What caused it? Who was involved? 9 survivors leave and make a pact, but now there are 7 left. What is haunting them?

The multiple timelines as we are learning about our survivors and then what happened that night was such a perfect way to tie the story together. The tension builds and then bursts like a violent summer storm to our conclusion.

Highly recommend.

Took a while for me to get into this one. The story is a bit disjointed but comes together in a whirlwind. The characters are hard to keep track of and I held no emotional connection to anyone. The final few chapters made up for it though. Overall a good read.

Thank you Netgalley for this arc

It has been ten years since Cassidy Bent and several classmates were in a bus accident during a field trip. There were many fatalities, and Cassidy is one of the 9 students who managed to survive the accident. The survivors have a tradition of getting together in a cottage yearly to mark the anniversary of the accident. Cassidy plans to avoid the reunion this year, but receives a shocking text message which compels her to go anyways.

There is a bad vibe when she gets there, and we start to get the impression that the official story of how the students survivied is not 100% true. All the other survivors seem to be a bit unsettled that weekend as well and things start to get a bit creepy.

I’m my opinion this is a typical Megan Miranda book, entertaining but unrealistic suspense that keeps you reading late even though it’s a bit cheesy at times. A great beach read, but overall not that memorable.

Thank you Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for providing me with a eARC of this book to read and review!

Megan Miranda did it again. Another stellar thriller that reeled me in and I could not stop reading.

Dual timelines, multiple POV, twisty & turny, and un-put-down-able.

Y'all I read this in one day. ONE DAY. I can't stress enough how invested I was in this book.

I DID NOT expect the twist revealed at the very end, and oh boy was it a big one.

Incredibly well written, at the edge of your seat tension, and a twist you would never expect.

Thriller fans everywhere should get their hands on this read.

Megan Miranda - keep 'em coming, I just can't get enough.

BIG thanks goes to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

Book comes out April 11th!

Ok, this one reeled me in right from the start! I think this is my newest favourite from Megan Miranda and once I started I had to keep going - feeling a compulsive need to know WHODUNNIT?

Sometimes books that skip back and forth in time from multiple perspectives can be tricky to decipher, but this one was so clear and easy to read. I'm tempted to give it five stars for that alone. The writing was solid, the characters well-developed, and the suspense was sustained to the end.

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the advance copy to read and review. All opinions are my own.

The Only Survivors By Megan Miranda is a slow burn thriller that shift gears between the past and the present.
The story of a group of 9 survivors of a tragic accident a decade ago this story kept me anxiously turning the pages until the very end.

It took a little bit to get into this one and was hard to keep track of all the characters since there were so many. Once I got into this though I couldn't put it down. If it wasn't for being tired I would have finished it in one sitting.

I still don't think I knew who each of the characters were though at the end of the book 🤷🏻‍♀️

The then timeline was really interesting but it was confusing because instead of being chronological it went backwards in time.

The ending was unfortunately really predictable and not what I was hoping for.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book... just didn't do it for me. It felt both slow and rushed. Nothing really happens and the reveal of the past was messy to the point that I didn't fully understand why it was such a huge secret and didn't care enough to reread to understand. I still enjoy this author, but this book was not a fun read for me

I always love Megan Miranda and this one didn't disappoint! I love Megan Miranda's ability to keep me guessing up until the end. I really enjoyed the story, the mystery and the differing perspectives of the survivors on the night the accident happened, counting backwards from the time of safety to the when everything happened, I think this was such an interesting way to tell the story and really enjoyed it over all! This may be one of my top favourites by her.

I've read 3 Megan Miranda books and this one is my favorite. Definitely a slow burn mystery. I wish the "past" chapters where in chronological order (it would have been easier to picture/understand what all was going on), but overall I enjoyed it!

Written in Megan Miranda’s signature style, this novel reveals the events of “the past” in reverse chronological order, while experiencing “the present” in real-time. The Only Survivors tells of a group of 9 individuals who, ten years ago, survived a van accident that was fatal to all the other students involved. While this tragedy has bonded them, there are secrets within the group. What really happened ten years ago?

This is a bit of a slow-burn thriller, took me a bit to wrap my head around all the characters and get into it. But once I did, this was exciting. I enjoyed the past/present timelines, and different POVs for the “past” sections.

If you enjoyed All The Missing Girls, I think you’ll enjoy this one too.

The Only Survivors is claustrophobic, mystery/thriller that I was excited to pick up. 10 years ago a school trip involved tragedy, and only nine escaped the river and their lives were changed forever. A year later, one of the survivors dies by suicide. The remaining survivors decide to come together to survive the memories of that night together. Each year they meet at a beach house on the Outer Banks. On this tenth anniversary, Cassidy wants to distance herself from this tragedy. She plans to not attend, but receives a text of an obituary. Another survivor died. She feels pulled back to the Outer Banks. Immediately, when she arrives, something feels off. Amaya, the organizer, leaves, a storm is brewing an roads are closed. Secrets are revealed leaving everyone wondering who they could trust.

I liked that the book alternated between now and then chapters and how the "now" chapters were told solely by Cassidy and the "then" chapters were told by the other survivors. It added some different voices to the stories and perspectives of what happened that fateful night.

I did find some of Cassidy's narration a bit annoying. I thought she was quite removed from the situation and not really experiencing the emotions of the situation. I didn't like her or hate her, I just found I connected to her a lot less than the other characters in the book.

The setting was amazing and totally gave me spooky vibes. I felt totally creeped out, and had to turn the lights on some of the time! The mystery managed to keep me interested throughout the book and kept me wanting to read. The conclusion in this book was quite tense and built up, I was not sure where the story was leading me.

If you enjoy a slower paced thriller, this will be the book for you! Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.

Thank you to Simon and Schuester Canada, Megan Miranda and Netgalley for the ARC!

I rate this book 3.75 stars, rounded up to 4. I liked this one, but there were definitely things that could be improved. First off, I loved the setting and atmosphere. The author does an excellent job setting the scene both in the present at the beach house and in the past by the river. She does a great job making it feel ominous and really allows you to visualize what’s happening. Miranda also does a good job of building suspense in this book… I definitely wanted to keep reading to find out what happened at the river.

However, there were things I didn’t love as well. First off, there were a ton of characters, so it was sometimes hard to keep track of them all. Some of them also didn’t feel very well developed at all. As well, I didn’t love the ending. Although there was one surprise, the end just felt a little meh to me and didn’t come with the payoff I was hoping for.

This was for sure one of Miranda’s better novels though, so if you are looking for an easy to read thriller, check this one out on shelves in April!

The Only Survivors by Megan Miranda was exactly what I was looking for in a thriller. It was unputdownable, filled with the terror of the unknown all throughout and the fear that someone would be the next victim at very turn, as well as the mystery of who was behind the goings on that kept the reader guessing all throughout.

The story told in this book is that of a group of survivors, loosely calling themselves friends, who survived a very traumatic event as teenagers and carry the secrets of that night with them even many years later. Throughout the course of the story the happenings of that night are steadily revealed, all while the characters left alive reunite on the anniversary of said incident, as they do every year. They have to deal with the paranoia they hold for one another that has them trusting no one but themselves over a memory they want to keep buried.

Imagine my surprise and happiness when I discovered a few chapters in that this happened to be a thriller with both present day story going on, as well as past when the incident itself happened. I’ve revealed before that I’m a sucker for this format of book so I was thrilled when I saw the first Then heading. Even better, the chapters that take place in the past follow different characters, giving the reader insight into each of the group of survivors who spend each anniversary of the incident together. I really enjoyed this because the present storyline follows just one person, Cassidy, so it was very interesting to get this small peak into the others minds during the tragedy that happened to them, which played into their present and how each of them interacted with one another and the roads they had each gone done in the years since.

All of this led to a tense conclusion and I honestly spent the whole book not wanting to stop reading whenever I needed to. I particularly liked in the “Then” chapters how it counted backwards in time as far as how events went, from after the accident when the group found help, until the final chapter is the past showed how it actually happened. At first I was thrown off because I expected it to be the other way around, which is typically what I’ve seen in the past, but doing it this way ended up being so much better and tied everything together so much better.

I highly recommend this read for my thriller lovers out there because it was a very enjoyable read!

A group of survivors from a fatal accident make a pact to get together every year to look out for each, however, this time it feels different and they are trying to figure out if they are looking out for each other or of they need to be scared of one another.

I really enjoyed the plotline, the dual timeline, and the multiple POV, but it was a very slow thriller. I found that most of the time I was bored by it which is why it took me so long to read it, and the big reveal had me wanting more, I also saw a lot of the reveals coming.

If you are new to thrillers and like a slower paced book this one might be good for you, but it you are like me and read mostly thrillers and like faster pace books you might not enjoy this book.

I want to thank netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the the arc for my honest review

The Only Survivors is razor-sharp and salaciously riveting.  A jigsaw puzzle of a story that will hook you instantly and reward you with a shattering, satisfying conclusion..I have not felt this excited about a thriller in years. I could not put this book down. It's fabulous..This is Megan Miranda’s best book yet. It’s filled with secrets, deception and lies filled with such an intensity that had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. to get to the end. The characters are so relatable. I felt instantly connected to them all. It really makes you think how far you’ll go to survive and could you live with the decisions you made in the past, and the current ones you make in the present.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of The Only Survivors by Megan Miranda, published by Simon & Schuster Canada
Wow, Megan Miranda has done it again, amazing read, I could not put this down. The story got better and more intense by the chapter. I love how the present story was told by Cassidy and the past was told by each of the other characters. And what a twist at the end! Loved it!
Ten years ago, there was an accident. A school trip. Not everyone survived. The wind and rain and flooding was no match for them. And now the survivors gather once a year in memory of the accident and the bond they have made
They come to a house called the Shallows, they all take their same rooms, they spend a week, just to be together.
My only real issue reading this novel was the introduction of all the characters right at the beginning, a lot of names and detail to remember, although I did end up keeping them straight as I continued reading.
This was still a great read. I loved this book and will always watch for more books by Megan Miranda

A decade ago, two vans filled with high school seniors on a school trip crashed into a Tennessee ravine—a tragedy that claimed the lives of twelve classmates and teachers. The nine students who managed to escape the river that night were irrevocably changed. One the one year anniversary of the crash, tragedy strikes again taking the life of one of the survivors. The only survivors left, a group of eight, make a pact: to come together each year to commemorate that terrible night.
On the tenth anniversary only seven survivors are left, and strange things start to unfold.
Told through dual timelines, we find out what exactly happened that night ten years ago.

MORE THAN FIVE STARS, GIVE THIS BOOK ALL OF THE STARS! Megan outdoes herself year after year, and this book is no exception! It's books like this one that make me fall in love with reading all over again.
I loved every aspect of this book. The twists were fantastic! The dual timeline gives us glimpses every so often into the eyes of each of the nine survivors.

Read it! You will NOT be disappointed. (other than maybe when it's over)

The Only Survivors was my third Megan Miranda book and my favourite of the three! The book revolves around a group of former classmates who make an effort to reunite once per year at a cottage as a form of a check in. This group of classmates are now in their 20s and live vastly different lives. This weekend most of them do not look forward to but feel obligated to attend in order to ensure they are all still living, feeling okay and as a form of a check in. When this group was in highschool they were caught in a terrible accident that killed their teacher and several others. But how did that accident actually happen and who remembers the true story? One of the few survivors knows the true story and the ultimate question is- will one of them spill the truth or keep it hidden forever? This particular weekend at the beach house is proving to be different than usual. There are not only eerie coincidences happening but there is an impending storm warning that is threatening to close roads and leave them stranded in the home that none of them feel is safe.

This book had a great setting and was very easy to read and follow. I liked the main character and was captivated by the story. I felt this one had more depth than her usual books which is something I welcomed. I thought the mystery to this book was captivating and kept me interested throughout the whole book. Overall this one is getting a 3.5 from me. Also just take in that gorgeous cover! Thank you @MeganMiranda @Netgalley and @SimonandSchusterCanada for this advanced copy. This book comes out on April 11th and I highly recommend you check it out if you have enjoyed her other novels.
