Thanks @netgalley for read number 8 of 2023. I have read many books by @meganlmiranda, & I definitely appreciated the fast-pace of this one. I enjoyed the dual timelines, especially as they had me guessing what happened first. There was an unexpected twist at the end, but I must admit that I found the end the least enjoyable part of the book. Some characters almost seemed kind of forgotten. I was a bit disappointed with the conclusion. Overall though, this was still a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me, but maybe with a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ending.

After a tragic accident in high school, the survivors of the accident get together every year on the anniversary to check in on each other. However, when one of their group disappears, everything comes into question about the original accident.

I really enjoyed this one! Nice and suspenseful and I truly didn’t see the ending coming.

What I loved:
-dynamics within the group
-storm/forced proximity setting
-past/current timelines
-quick and engaging read

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the advanced reading copy!

A group of friends gather every year at a cabin in the Outer Banks to commemorate a tragedy that they all survived. They started as nine and are now down to seven. The story alternates between the past and the present and of course secrets are revealed. Megan Miranda is a must read author for me, but this one falls flat. The past storyline felt like a stretch. Thanks to NetGalley and @SimonSchuster for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick read for me. Like others I’ve been a fan for years but the past couple books by Megan Miranda left me wanting more thankfully this one filled my cup with all things Megan Miranda. A gripping thriller that left me on the edge of my seat desperate for another chapter. You need to pick this one up if you’re a fan, if you’ve never read anything by Megan Miranda this is a great one to start with.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for an advanced electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Every year, a group gets together on the anniversary of the accident they survived in Grade 12 on a school trip. They have a pact to be there for each other, no outsiders, stick to the story. But with two survivors dead after 10 years have passed, their group is shrinking, and it's getting harder to know who to trust, because someone is definitely talking. What really happened that day?

I have been a fan of Megan Miranda for a few years, but her last few books did not work for me. I picked this up hoping it would be better, because I felt like her books might not just be for me anymore, and I wanted to know for sure. Thankfully, this was much better. I was able to guess the twist before it was revealed, but I still think it was a good one because it made sense and it worked. There is a similar sort of reveal in her earlier work, "All the Missing Girls," so if you liked that, you'll probably like this too.

CW: car accident, death, suicide, violence, drug abuse

3.5 star

# I definitely read this book super quickly because it kept my attention and was really entertaining, however it all came together kind of flat for me. I’m not the type that always (or even usually) is able to guess what happens in thrillers/mysteries but I knew where this was going pretty early on. That said, it didn’t really take away any enjoyment I had while reading!

# I feel like quite a bit could have been left out throughout the story and a little more page time spent fleshing out the ending a bit more. I also wanted more from our main character, Cassidy. This story is dual POV and I wish there was some more time spent on the back story and the scenes taking place in the past.

# Overall this was an enjoyable thriller and I would recommend it
