I'm a huge fan of Megan Miranda and this was one of my most anticipated reads of 2023. I really enjoyed this mystery surrounding a group of survivors who were victims of a traumatic event and who made a pact to look out for each other. Each year the group reunites to commemorate the accident and support each other, however, the group has been dwindling and there seems to be more sinister motives at play this year. The plot is well constructed and alternates between the present and the hours counting down to the accident in the past. This is a slow burn mystery with a variety of characters that really picked up speed at the 70% mark. I didn't accurately predict the ending which was a bonus.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster, Net Galley, and the author for my eGalley of this book which I will be recommending for Megan Miranda fans and lovers of a good slow burn mystery.

I had a hard time following so many characters and their changing relationships.

A fatal vehicle accident on a high school field trip; the dead haunt the survivors who are attending a 10th year anniversary memorial. Is someone out to kill them or is their survivor's guilt getting the better of them one by one.

The suspense gets intense as roles unravel.

I expected a better novel from Megan Miranda so I only rated this 4/5 because of the confusing volume of characters and relationships bouncing back and forth from past to present.

This was a ssssslllllllooooowwwwwww burn thriller, and I really mean slow. Eight people ( I wouldn’t call them friends) meet for a week on the anniversary of a crash they survived. Other survivors have since died and there is mystery surrounding their deaths. There is someone watching, someone who knows the real secret they share.

It sounds intriguing, but I did not feel connected to the characters and by the time the mystery was unveiled it was almost 80% into the book, and for me, the mystery wasn’t worth waiting that long for. I guess I was kind of bored through the whole book, so I was expecting there to be some big revelation (or perhaps hoping), but there wasn’t. The big secret was just ok, nothing special or remarkable and semi-predictable.

3 stars may even be generous.

Cassidy Bent and eight of her classmates survived a terrible crash; twelve other youths and two teachers did not. Ten years later, less two of the survivors, one by suicide and one by overdose, Cassidy and the others continue to meet on the anniversary of the accident. The need to be together, to support each other, to save each other. But there are secrets and fears they each have leading them to wonder, who can they trust, who will die next.

Megan Miranda is an expert at drawing the reader in. At spinning stories that make you want to know what happens while simultaneously not wanting to know. Each of the characters in the story has things about them which are endearing and ominous. The suspense the writer weaves keeps the reader engaged throughout. This is a quick read but likely due to not being able to put it down. I highly recommend this book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for the opportunity to read and review this arc.

Great thriller, 4.5 ⭐️ rounded up to 5. Now and then timelines with different POV’s, closed circle of suspects who are increasingly suspicious of each other, rampant paranoia because they all have motive, and no one to turn to because they are all liars.
After a tragic accident on a school trip 10 years earlier, the remaining classmates meet annually. Cassidy tries to avoid it this year, until someone sends her the obituary of one of the survivors.
Cassidy is the main character in the Now timeline and honestly not always as clued in as she should be. Highly suspicious of everyone but then randomly blabs her finds/clues to them. Every clue Cass finds turns her focus from one “friend” to another. She doesn’t know who to trust, and either will you! she also keeps putting herself in potentially risky positions. In fact, none of the characters are very likeable, but I’m ok with that! Especially if there is some kind of payback waiting for them.
This is a page turning thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. I highly recommend this suspenseful read, which is also my favourite Megan Miranda book so far!
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

You get tantalizing hints of what that secret might be, and all of the horrifying twists toward the end just keep you gasping.

Megan Miranda is a pro at creating atmosphere, misdirection and suspicion with her words. The Only Survivors reminds me (just a wee bit) of her earlier YA thrillers - but with grownups messing everything up instead. The sense of dread keeps building until you just can't put your ereader down. Forget that deadline or the dishes: you gotta know whodunnit!!!

This one stayed with me well after I turned the last e-page. What would YOU do in their circumstances? How would YOU rationalize how much of the truth was told, and WHO TO TRUST???!!!

Five out of five impressive stars for this well-written, atmospheric nail-biter! My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This sounded like a great thriller, and I went into it with high hopes based on the premise alone.
What I was left with was a painstakingly slow, less than unique thriller.

What I did enjoy:
-the dual timeline
-multiple POV

What I didn't enjoy:
-how predictable it was
-the snails pace in which this progressed
-the characters with zero dimension or emotion really

60% through I was bored - by the end I was left asking...that's it?

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the ARC eBook in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely devoured this book! As usual, Megan Miranda offers a hard to put down novel, offering twists and turns along the way. In The Only Survivors, Cassidy Bent is called back to the beach house at the Outer Banks, where she and the other survivors of a crash reunited every year. But this year is a bit different, as secrets are brought to light and Cassidy is left wondering what, in fact, happened a decade ago, as two vans on a school trip crashed into the water, leaving nine survivors behind, and if their past is coming back to haunt them.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the ARC.

I loved this book! I can always count on Megan Miranda to give me a binge-worthy thriller full of twists. I loved these characters, many whom were unpredictable. The pace of the book was just right and I would recommend this (along with all her other books) to anyone who wants to cozy up with a thriller! Also I would be remiss to not mention how beautiful this cover art is!

Let me start by saying I’m a big fan of Megan Miranda - I’ve read 6 of her titles, prior to this one, with The Last To Vanish as a 5 star. Unfortunately this one didn’t hit the mark for me.

A group of highschool students experience a tragic accident. The victims are memorialized and the survivors are left to cope with the trauma. What really happened that night? Everyone has something to hide.

I loved the idea of this story in theory but in practice it didn’t work. It felt really repetitive like we weren’t getting anywhere at all. There were a few twists, some very predictable and some surprising (I really liked the final reveal, definitely didn’t see it coming!). If you’ve seen some of my reviews before you know I don’t love when none of the characters are likeable, and that’s the case here. I didn’t feel like I had anyone to root for.

All in all, I’d give it a 3.5. If you’re looking for a Megan miranda book to read, I’d suggest The Last To Vanish, Such A Quiet Place or All The Missing Girls.

Amazing book! A very wild ride. Survivors of a tragic high school accident have a reunion every year. The questions keep mounting as the survivors die or disappear. I was not expecting that ending! I highly recommend this book. Thanks to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster Canada and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

This thrilling Megan Miranda book will keep you reading to see what happens. Guilt is hard on a group of friends even years after the accident that left them alive after others died. Is it survivor’s guilt or it is it guilt over something else? What really happened at the accident? I couldn’t put this book down, I had to know! This suspenseful story keep me guessing. I throughly enjoyed this book.

We are still here.

Ten years ago, Cassidy is amongst the only survivors of a terrible high school tragedy. Each year, she gathers at a beach house with the other (remaining) survivors. Although she had meant to make a break from this tradition and move on in whatever way she could, Cassidy is drawn to join the other survivors when she receives a surprising text. She soon learns that the text was from someone who wants them to gather again and is watching them; and this person wants to know what really happened all those years ago.

I loved the atmosphere and the tension within this story and the mystery really worked for me. It wasn't perfect (it felt a bit slow at first), but I rounded up to 5 stars as I thought that it was well done overall, including a solid ending.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and Simon & Schuster Canada for the opportunity to read an e-galley in exchange for a review.

I have enjoyed all of Megan Miranda’s novels so I was super excited to receive this ARC. Like all of her novels, the plot and characters keep you guessing as to what the truth behind the storyline is. When you discover the truth, it becomes a race to the end to find out how things turn out. I appreciated that we got to know the story from different characters points of view.
There were a large number of characters in this novel and reading the story from their individual points of view got a bit confusing a times. Also, the twist wasn’t as shocking or out there as the build up to it. It can be co fusing when characters don’t know their own truth.

This was an interesting, twisty mystery story that kept me guessing until the end. I had some suspicions along the way, but I liked having the flashbacks throughout to keep things interesting.

If you enjoy Megan Miranda books you will definitely enjoy this one! It is another great thriller from the master of suspense!
10 years ago a deadly accident on a school trip leaves only 9 survivors. This group of survivors makes a pact and meets every summer at the Shallows. This summer only 7 remain and somebody is out to get the rest of the group. Who will die next?
This book is told in the main characters point of view and alternates between now and then timelines.
I am giving this book 4 stars as it kept me guessing and held my attention until the end!

Five stars from me. I adore this author and this book was no exception. The characters were amazingly done the atmosphere was fantastic. I love how the story was told in past and present. Suspense galore and some heart stopping moments. A richly told plot with deep characters and an undercurrent of tragedy topped with a heaping helping of suspense.
Well written. A must read!

Okay okay okay. A group of friends survives a tragedy that ultimately kills most of their classmates leaving them as the only survivors. Every year on the anniversary of the accident the survivors get together to support each other but slowly each of them are dying in mysterious ways.

We love a “closed room” (adjacent) mystery with a group of old friends with drama on drama on drama. Truly reads right off the screen. Miranda set the scene so I couldn’t HELP but watch the video or mini series in my head the whole time.

Although I didn’t love the characters, it meant I was totally okay with them dying along the way while maintaining interest in the plot 😂 I will say I was hoping for a reveal about the accident to be more “popping” than it was, but I absolutely cannot complain about how this one turned out!! I enjoyed the dual storyline but surprisingly enjoyed the high school timeline better?

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I am a Megan Miranda fan and love the way she keeps so much in the dark through the telling of the story. This was no different, you know there was an accident that not everyone survived, you know there are things still to be revealed about the accident but you need to keep reading to find out what those truths are.

I found the story compelling, I finished in record time and have needed extra coffee as a result! The narrators are classically unreliable and the final reveal is well orchestrated.

Another great read from one of my favourite authors!
