I tried, but this book was just not for me and I wasn't able to finish. I can appreciate the writing.

It's really rare for a book to make me uncomfortable, and this one put me there. I didn't finish this one, because it was just too much for me. I appreciate what the author was trying to do here, and wish this one would've landed!

Unfortunately this title was archived before I had a chance to read it so this rating is based on the average of all the reviews I've read and how I think I would have felt.

I'm not really sure how to feel about this book. After reading the synopsis I thought it would be interesting and that it would be something I would enjoy but I have to admit that I was pretty disappointed. I'm okay with dark stories and kinks and other people's fantasies and fetishes but the main character had me a little uncomfortable at times. Being uncomfortable while reading isn't always a bad thing but I also didn't enjoy the writing here. The characters are sort of melted together and I couldn't connect with any of them on any level. Obviously finding X was the main characters goal but overall the storyline just seemed kind of senseless and all over the place. This one wasn't for me.

Davey Davis' X is a story unlike any I've read before. I found the political climate of the book to be incredibly interesting. There's a lot of jumping around that made the read difficult at times, but the story was engaging enough for me to not be put off by that. This is definitely not a book for everyone (including me at times), but if you're looking for something different you might find it here.

This book is gritty, sexy, dark, troubled, and a little but of humor thrown in. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, but when I tell you I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this! Lee is a very complex character, dealing with a lot of unresolved emotion and trauma which is a common motif in this title. I loved the complexity of gender roles and intertwining of BDSM and fluidity. Not for the faint of heart, but beautiful in its own way.

This is a noisy hectic and chaotic book - a story of violence and terror in NYC, The story features a sadist (Lee). Her introduction to X is what powers the tale. When Lee finds out that the undesirables of NY are being exported, they are determined to find X and save her. What happens between includes snark, trans and queer stories, dark humor, dystopia, horror, surveillance and lots of sex. Davey Davis is a fascinating writer and recommended for all those real rebels out there!
