'The Legacies' by Jessica Goodman is exactly what is says it is. It hits every cliché you could want from a Gossip Girl-esque murder mystery. The rich kids are out of touch and snotty having too much sex, doing too many drugs, and generally unlikable. The outsider does all the things. It is enjoyable for what it is.

Thank you to the publisher Penguin Teen for sending me this ARC!

This was a 3.5⭐ read for me.

The Legacies is a riveting teen mystery full of secrets, drama and money. Taking place in the upper classes of the NY social circles, it reminded me of gossip girl, but with a dark twist.

I love a good preppy high school and the multiple POV served it's purpose, although I was more interested in Bernie and Tori than Isobel. For me, the character voices were a bit too similar, but story wise it was nice to see the events from different angles.

The writing style is fast paced and makes it an easy read, I wanted to come back to this book at any time and the plot got me wondering what would happen next. Some stakes could have been higher and sometimes the conflicts were somewhat too vague to keep the secretive vibe for my taste. The ending left some plot points open, which makes me wonder if there'll be a part 2...

I know I'll be there to read it! I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a YA whodunit with high school drama!

I'm a sucker for elite campus drama. This is totally giving Gossip Girl vibes with the privileged vs. underprivileged. The secrets. lies, and twists kept me reading. There were very few likable characters, but that seems par for the course in books like this. However, I still needed to know what happened. Jessica Goodman is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine.

This book really just took me for a ride. I loved the build up, the character development, and the writing. I find myself loving every book Jessica Goodman writes!

The Legacies is a crime young adult thriller that reminds me of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. Each chapter is told from the point of view of one of the legacy nominees who hopes to achieve the dream of being part of the club of high society.

Read this book if you enjoy:
Manhattan Elite
Gossip Girl
Pretty little liars
Dual timelines
multiple character pov
dark academia
This one was a solid 3 for me as it was not my usual genre, and the thriller part felt more like a cozy mystery. I found it a quick read, perfect for the young adult crowd, but not a show-stopping story.

This was a fun read and reminded me of the rich kid atmosphere of Gossip Girl. However, for being a thriller, the pacing was confusingly slow. I didn’t understand large parts of the plot and the dual POV wasn’t engaging like I expected. The ending tainted the rest of the story, but maybe that was the point.

I received an advance review copy for free via Netgalley and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is how my favorite YA Thrillers are done! The perfect amount of characters with twisted storylines and messy lives. I loved getting a look into each character's perspective and how their decisions played into the story along with switching back and forth between the timeline of before the final event and then after someone had been killed. I kept trying to guess who had been murdered, but I definitely got it wrong, but it was for sure satisfying. I loved all the drama. 4.5 stars for sure!

It had been a while since I read a teen thriller, but this book reminded me why I used to love to read this genre so much! The Legacies was definitely an entertaining read, and one with an unexpected plottwist!

This was an enjoyable YA thriller, but I found it frustrating that the victim's identity was kept secret. At the end of my day, not my favorite book.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have been trying to read more thrillers and this had a lot of what I look for in a quick read. It is all about an elite group that takes care of their own if one is lucky enough to get into the club. Six student are admit for a chance to join. Five where selected that people assumed would get in but not Tori the scholarship kid. It is told from a few different points of view. It will keep you guessing until the last page. It does switch between different points in time.

I didn’t really enjoy this one. I didn’t like any of the characters. The plot was convoluted and had too many things going on. Nothing seemed probable. I did not like the past/current setup and felt it took away what would have been more of a mystery like I was expecting. It left me completely uninvested. I wanted to get through it so I read it quickly, but it could have been shorter as some parts were very boring. Likely won’t read another by this author even though I didn’t dislike her previous book.

I would like to start of by saying thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the privilege of receiving this eARC.

This book had all the required essentials.
Intrigue and mystery, suspense and drama, elite society, glitz and glamour all served up on a silver platter. Privilege and wealth collides in this perfectly curated world of corruption and deceit.
This book delivered on my expectations and then some. The perfect combination of Pretty Little Liars meets Elite.

I would again like to share my appreciation to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advances readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Young Reader's Group for providing a copy of this eARC for review.

I really enjoyed this novel! So far, I've liked everything I've read by this author. In this novel, specifically, I appreciated the time jumps. They added intrigue and had two functions for me. First, they kept me engaged and added suspense where I otherwise may have taken more breaks while reading. Second, they were a natural stopping point for when I did take breaks. They added information and directed the mood and perception of the reader as we went through. I was never quite sure what would happen, and I think this is the sign of a good thriller. The characters were interesting to read about - flawed, sometimes unlikeable, and vaguely obnoxious. Which makes them incredibly believable. These are teenagers who have believed they were above the law, entitled to anything they wanted, and their likeability was not a foregone conclusion.

I will definitely be reading more by this author.

One of my favorite Jessica Goodman books! Fast-paced and thrilling, and the Gossip Girl vibes were on point.

Other people have McManus as their go to for YA thriller or mystery content, I have Jessica Goodman. I know that if Goodman is behind the pen then I'm in for a good time. She'll write a book that I'll want to see play out. It's never anything overly complicated, just compelling enough to spend the day with. It's the book version of a comfort movie that you can put on and have on in the background.

This time around we are following a trio of New York Prep School children chosen to be part of the elite social club. We watch as one of their parents goes missing and long buried secrets find their way to the surface.

Like the rest of Goodman's work the book doesn't overstay its welcome and I was invested from the first page. It does help that I'm a sucker for a story set in New York following children that have more money than a person should have, but even that wasn't necessarily the focus of this story. While I fully admit this won't be a five star for everyone, I do think that Goodman writes books that most people will at least enjoy and this is certainly no different.

In my opinion, this book was a bit slow at times. I enjoyed the book but I couldn't fly through it like I usually can with books from this author. The plot is interesting, but the characters made me cringe quite a bit. I couldn't for the life of me understand how some of the characters were thinking which made me annoyed. The ending was partly expected but mostly unexpected.
