A great thriller - I would recommend it!

The remote island of Inis Mor was a perfect setting for this novel, especially in a snowstorm. I visited Inis Mor when I traveled around Ireland, and it was fun to see some familiar places pop up. I liked Cara and appreciated that she's very aware that she's not an incredibly experienced detective. It was a refreshing change from the amateur detectives bungling everything while thinking they're experts. The other characters weren't fully fleshed out but I liked the group dynamics. The mystery itself was a bit repetitive and quite predictable. That said, I was enjoying this one and stayed up late finishing it.

A huge thank you to the author and the publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

Lots of atmosphere in this one, supported by the remote location and introduction of the snowstorm. I expected it to be more claustrophobic given the snowstorm but the main character is here, there and everywhere on the island so that element is missing. I think it could have ramped up more tension if it had felt more claustrophic. It's well written and moves at a nice pace but I did guess the identity of the killer before it was revealed.

Classic Agatha Christie-style murder mystery, set on the fascinating Irish island of Inis Mor, in the middle of a snowstorm, to boot.

Time-honored direction and misdirection. Lively writing style and a fun and spirited leading lady.

Well done, vintage, and clean. Recommended.

I love remote locations, and that’s why I picked this one. However, it was a very predictable book for this genre.

Six friends reunite after ten years, only to find that their once tight-knit friendship has been replaced by secrets and jealousy. When a dead body is discovered, the group realizes that one of them must be a killer. As the snowstorm intensifies and they become trapped with no electricity or phone signal, trust becomes scarce and suspicions rise.
This author does an excellent job of creating an atmospheric setting that adds to the tension of the story. The cold, bleak, isolated island feels like another character in the book. The writing itself is well done, and the pace keeps you turning pages. Although there are some twists and turns in the plot, it was fairly easy for me to figure out who the killer was with such a small pool of suspects. However, this did not detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.

I really enjoyed the setting of this book. A small, remote Irish island during the middle of the winter.

My main issue with this book was that it was really predictable. I predicted every twist before it happened.

Six friends are trapped with a killer and they need to find out who it is before more deaths occur. Jaw dropping twists and turns. A hard core read.

My thanks to NetGalley and BookOuture for a copy of “ The Snowstorm” for an honest review.

I’d chosen to read this as a seasonal read , as it’s set over New Year, but I think this is well worth a read at any time of the year.
I thought it was really well paced , and full of twists and turns , that kept me guessing right to the end.
Highly recommended

I was intrigued to read a locked room snow covered thriller. This was that kind of. I think I would have liked a little more action, and a little more from the story at hand. Maybe I truly have read too many thrillers now, but I saw the potential for more which lowered my rating at the end.

I picked this up because it had some features I usually enjoy in thrillers: an evocative setting (a remote Irish island), friends reuniting, and a tragic past death that may not be as it seems.

Overall, though, this book was kind of disappointing – it didn’t quite deliver what it promised. For one, I expected a closed circle mystery, but the snowstorm actually didn’t keep the main character or anyone else from wandering all over the island. The villain was obvious though their motive wasn’t. I did like the murder victim which only made me a bit sad that they were dead for the whole story. The setting was evocative but the characterization was lacking. I gave this a B-.

Very interesting read. The atmosphere, the story, and the writing keep you guessing. Quite unputdownable

Im a bit "spastic" . I read Summer books quite literally all year round but especially in the Winter. I read Winter books in the Summer. I think it's the whole "you don't appreciate what you have until its gone" and for some reason, lately, I have been missing the snow.

Anywho, I picked up The Snowstorm, to give myself a Winter "fix" and trust me when I tell you, I do not miss the Winter anymore...

Triona Walsh, did an exceptional job hitting us with a pulse pounding thriller that will have your heart in your throat the entire span of the book. There are no shortage of twists and the conclusion will leave you fully satisfied.

Teaser:

I thought my best friend’s death must have been an accident. But as I look down at the footprints in the deep snow, I suddenly see the truth: my oldest friends have been lying to me…

I used to be the lucky one: a group of incredible friends, an amazing husband, Cillian, and the career I had dreamed of. But then one sleepless night ten years ago everything changed when my husband died. It tore apart not only my heart but our tight friendship group forever.

Over the years, I’ve lost touch with them, and tried to move on with my life. But when my oldest friend Maura suggests we get the group back together to remember Cillian and celebrate the New Year on the remote Irish island where we grew up, I decide it’s time for a fresh start…

Soon the drinks are flowing and I begin to relax, enjoying being back with the people who once meant everything to me. But as the weather turns into the worst blizzard I’ve ever seen, Maura disappears… And then I find an old diary, lost for ten years, which reveals that every one of us has secrets.

As the power goes out and we become completely cut off from the mainland I suddenly realise that I’m surrounded by people I can’t trust. I have to face the facts: did one of us hurt Maura? Can I find the answers in this raging storm? And if I do, will I be next?

There were alot of thing I enjoyed about this book but there were things that I really struggled with. My main issue with this book was the pacing. In my opinion it's a bit of a slow burn. Let me be clear there is NOTHING wrong with that, I just personally enjoy a bit faster of pace.

I also struggled some with the names. Thank goodness for Google translate because I was butchering those names! That aside I LOVED the location the story was set in. And for the most part, I loved the characters ( especially Cara! ). Triona did a decent job on keeping me guessing just who could be trusted!

As always, thanks again to the publisher and netgalley for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read The Snowstorm. I loved the island location and atmosphere-I'm a sucker for mysteries/thrillers taking place in remote areas-especially islands! The story itself was okay. The writing was great I just found the plot a bit weak. I did not love the main character. At all. The twists were fairly predictable. This was more of a 3.5 read. Not great but not awful.

A great thriller, slow to get going but I didn’t mind too much. Loved the old friends coming together and couldn’t wait to get to the end.

Loved the story of friends reunited. Loved the setting of the story in a snowstorm. The twists were revealed perfectly. I loved how it kept me guessing right until the very end. the only thing I didnt like was all the Irish names.

The beginning of this was slow for my taste, but it picked up as the story went on. The writing was so engaging and kept me turning the pages, despite the slow start. I loved the characters and also how I didn’t know who I could trust. It made for an exciting story that had so many well placed twists and turns. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher, for a chance to read and review this book.

An Irish Murder mystery, I should have really loved this one but it was just ok for me.

I found myself skipping paragraphs just to move the story along.

I liked the idea of old friends coming back together, a tragic happening from their past that they all need to deal with and being trapped in a snowstorm while they begin to learn there is a murderer in the area.

But the actual story line was just too drawn out for me. Too much repetitive hashing of old events.

I know a lot of people really loved this one so if you like these kinds of mysteries, definitely give this one a try.
