Get ready for the ride you have always wanted in a suspense/thriller. Loved this one. While I didn’t actually figure out who dun it. I was actually on a similar tract but the one decided with the cops was oh so much better, followed by the final twist. This was everything I have wanted to see in a thriller! The middle I found a little muddled but oh so necessary. First book I have read by McGarvey Black but it definitely won’t be my last, I will be looking for future novels. Yes, I will definitely be recommending to anyone who enjoys a great thriller. Might fly under your radar but I’m saying, do yourself a favor and find it to pick it up! Nice to end my year with this one. Here’s to more great thrillers in 2023!

Jillian Samuels is a self-published author, who after some struggles, is accepted by an agent with her new book. Her handsome husband and best friend are supportive of her writing encourage her writing. But then some of the crimes in her books begin to play out in real life, much to the intrigue of readers. Overnight, her books gain popularity, as the crimes continue but the police are asking questions and not everything in her life is as it seems.

Once this one set the scene it was fast paced and twisted. This one was suspenseful and I really didn't expect that ending! 4.5*

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Joffe Book for this gifted review copy.

"By night, she writes about serial killers. But then her stories begin to come true." that was the line in the description that I knew this was going to be good. It does what a great psychological thriller should do and it worked with the world that was created. I enjoyed the characters and how realistic they were. McGarvey Black does a great job in creating a unique story that was well done. Can't wait for more.

"That was the opening Eric had been waiting for. As luck would have it, in the weeks since Andrea had left for South America, my social media following had increased significantly. Eric walked his boss through the latest developments with my older books, the number of new followers I had, and my dramatic increase in interactions on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter."

thank you to netgalley for allowing me to read this before its official release in exchange for an honest review.

honestly, i didnt like this book at all until the last 30-ish%. its filled with unnecessary details that just drags on and its EXTREMELY slow paced until the very end where everything happens all at once. the characters are awful and are barely developed, the whole plot is extremely predictable and boring (not going to spoil anything but i saw it all coming from a million miles away), and the entire book just seems like the author word vomited and rambled a lot, added a few extra details, and then said "done!" ive never dnf'd a book in my life but i was SO close to not finishing this one. that being said, the last 30% was pretty alright. i forgot that i was reading a thriller until i got to the ending because the rest of the book was so boring. eventually, something ACTUALLY happens and everything kinda comes together.
is it worth reading until the end?? in my opinion, no. 2/5 stars.
also maybe it was just my phone being weird but the formatting of this book is super fucked up?? paragraphs and sentences being cut in half and put onto different lines, chapters beginning and ending in the middle of pages, random large spaces in between words... again, maybe it just downloaded weirdly onto my phone? i really hope it wont be published like that. it made this book even harder to read and i almost dnf'd it for that reason alone.

The story itself is a pretty good concept, but overall not my favorite novel. I recommend giving it a try, as the overall payoff in the end wasn't bad.

The good: Short chapters that are easy to read. The story takes off right from the first page by sucking you in with an accident that is strikingly similar to the plot of Jillian's first book. The second half of the book picks up the pace, and once you hit the end and look back on the book as a whole it is pretty good!

The bad: The format for kindles is terrible, not sure if the paperbacks are also strange, but it really distracted from the reading for me. There were breaks in many sentences that just stopped mid sentance and continued the sentence in a new paragraph. The chapters also did not start on a new page, if chapters ended in the middle of a page, the chapter 3 heading and text just started right there in the middle of th3 page. There was so much background about Teddy and Jillian and how they met and their life that I felt like I could've probably skipped 6 to 10 chapters and not really missed too much of anything.

The plot is good, the themes are good, and the ending is good. The pacing throughout the first half needs some work and the format of the ebook needs some changes. Definitely give this book and author a chance, because the story pays off in the end.

This book felt a bit slow to start however I then couldn’t put it down. Jillian is an author part time and soon her plots are happening in real life .. the story had so many twists and turns I couldn’t keep up. Then it’s all sorted and the ending is in front of you.. and still your mind is blown. I really loved this book it keep me wondering all the way and I did not see the finale at all.. very good read, great characters and such a good plot and story. Great read and I read it in one sitting as it enthralled me so much.

This book had me hook line and sinker! I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one day.

Writer Jillian Samuels is working on her first big break with a publishing company after self publishing 3 thriller books. Coincidentally (or not) a series of crimes break out in her home state of Connecticut. The crimes follow the plot of her first three books. Her book sales are rising as this point but at what cost. With her home life breaking down and best friend being in PR herself the book is just to good to put down. The twist at the end had me reeling!! I can’t wait to read more from McGarvey Black!

Shoutout to NetGalley for allowing me to opportunity to read this book before it’s official publication in January!
