Detective Eve Bennet leads a special task force in Utah. She grew up within the Fundamentalist Mormon community (the sect that practices polygamy). When a family is murdered within the community, her task force is called in to investigate. However, the community is against her and tries to make it as difficult as possible for her. She also knows they are hiding something. They know who the murderer is.

So, this was okay. There were far too many inane details for my taste and not enough actual content. I liked Eve's mission and background, but I just couldn't get into the writing.

I listened to the audiobook version. It was narrated by Stacia Keogh. For the most part, it was fine. But there are a few spots where you can tell a reread sentence was dubbed in. Some of the dialogue was a bit weird, too.

I received an audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed listening to this audiobok and found the writing style really enthralling, I found it fascinating that the plot is intertwined with the personal life and past of the protagonist, Detective Eve Bennet. The book is imbued with inclusivity and appreciation for different cultural values, all characters are represented with their peculiarities but never with a judgment.

A plot twist is revealed towards the end of the book but the very last chapters hide some more surprising and spine-thrilling events, which make the book interesting until the very end. I would be glad to read/listened to further stories that revolve around this protagonist.

Detective Eve Bennett is called to the Utah home of a fundamentalist Mormon family when the entire family is killed. All but one, that is, the youngest child, Hannah is nowhere to be found. It turns out that Hannah was with her uncle at the time of the murders and was unharmed, but now he refuses to allow Eve, or anyone else on her team to set foot in his home. Frustrated, Eve turns back to the crime scene where she uncovers dark dealings that awaken nightmares from her own past. Another story that reveals how creepy organized religion is
