I have read a lot of Sylvia Day's books, but sadly this is not one I was a huge fan of. It was good and fits her theme but she has definitely written better.

Sylvia Day has long been one of my favorite authors, getting me into the world of erotica books years ago. This was perfect and a great addition to all of Day's works.

I wasn't able to read this book because life has been extremely busy, so I will rate this 5 stars to compensate. The blurb looked very promising though, and I will read this when I get the chance and I will edit my review

this wasnt the best read, especially given how long we had to wait for it to come out. i was pretty disappointed with it and it took me forever to get through.

There was soooo much going on here. I don't really know where to start. There are so many POVs trying to establish the story line that just cause so much confusion.

I've read other Syvia Day books and they're all much better than this one in my opinion.

I think this one was hard to read for me as I did not get the feeling of the characters of the story i got lost I wanted to get more immersed and feel like I was part of the story but I couldn't maybe the next book

Thank you, NetGalley and Rōnin House, Ronin House, for the advanced copy of So Close in exchange for my honest review.

I will be honest in saying I did not know what I was getting myself into in this book and it was not the book for me and I did not enjoy it. Some of this has to do with my not having previous knowledge and not understanding that this was psychosexual novel. I do not like the smut or books with lots of sexual stuff and this was truly too much for me. Again I should have read the description instead of going in blind because I probably would not have picked this book. I read it all the way through though because I wanted to give an accurate review. It was definitely well written and something that could be a great series who is into these types of books. The characters had lots of depth and there was a lot of secrets and twist in the book.

Told from different view points which was confusing in the beginning. But it turned out to be a pretty good read.

It is written in multiple points of view which I feel was unnecessary. Amy and Aliyah were so unlikeable. I thought that this was going to be a love story but it was more of a company takeover. The only thing I like was Lily but the ending was too absurd and took a really long time to reveal.

After 6 years dead lily comes back. But is it really her?
Told from different points of views.
It was confusing at first.

I can always count on Sylvia to have me hooked on a story from the jump. Can’t wait for the next book!

So Close by Sylvia Day is a gripping and twisted tale of obsession and betrayal. From the moment you dive into the story, you are thrown into a world where trust is scarce and the characters are enveloped in a web of secrets.

The protagonist, Kane Black, is a widower who is haunted by the memory of his late wife, Lily. When he comes across a woman who bears a striking resemblance to Lily, he becomes obsessed with her and brings her into his luxurious penthouse. However, Kane's mother, Aliyah, suspects that something is amiss and delves into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Lily's death. On the other hand, Amy, Kane's sister-in-law, is consumed by anger and seeks revenge for past betrayals.

The narrative is filled with suspense and tension as the three women navigate their complicated relationships with Kane, each driven by their own motives. Sylvia Day skillfully weaves together their stories, creating a gothic atmosphere that is both captivating and unsettling. The exploration of female trauma adds depth to the narrative, making it more than just a traditional domestic suspense novel.

Day's writing is evocative and sensual, creating a vivid backdrop for the characters' actions and emotions. The pacing is relentless, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as the plot unfolds and secrets are revealed. Each chapter is packed with surprises, ensuring that there is never a dull moment.

One of the strengths of So Close is the complex characterization. Kane, Aliyah, and Amy are flawed and multi-dimensional, making them relatable and compelling. Their actions are driven by their past experiences and the desire to protect what they hold dear, even if it means resorting to extreme measures.

Overall, So Close is a thrilling and atmospheric read that will keep you guessing until the very end. Sylvia Day's masterful storytelling and her ability to delve into the depths of human emotions make this novel a standout in the domestic suspense genre. If you enjoy dark and twisty tales with a touch of gothic flair, then So Close is the perfect book for you.

I had read the introduction of this book in Sylvia Day’s last book, but this was not what I expected…I didn’t love it. Just okay for me.

I received an ARC copy of this book via NetGalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am DNF-ing this book at only 8% in. I had always heard good things about Sylvia Day and her writing. This however? As my first ever Day novel, it did not impress. I was really confused from the get go about what was going on. I had no idea who our MCs were or anything. I don't know if it is just the writing style of this book or if it is just a Day thing. Maybe I'll give it another shot later down the road but I don't think it will be any time soon.

I was something similar to Crossfire but it was different that I was surprised. Multiple female PoVs and a touch of mystery. Quite engaging in the start but I think the end was hurried and needed some more finishing. Good that there is another book to answer my questions because I have some about some characters and their motives.

Loved this book. Excellent start to this two book series. Sylvia Day's novels are always wonderful. Loved the gothic mystery setting! Can't wait to read book 2.

his book was just okay for me. I’ve never read Sylvia Day and by looking at others’ comments, I probably didn’t choose a good one to start with. Maybe I will check out her Crossfire series as it seems to have a lot of praise.

I really, really, really, REALLY, tried to get into this books. I tried more than once and for whatever reason, it just didn’t grasp me. I feel like it had such a good premise to be a great book, I just found myself bored. It wasn’t very engaging in my opinion. I had high hopes because I’ve heard good things about the author, this one just wasn’t for me. Because the book wasn’t for me and I didn’t fully finish it, I won’t be reviewing anywhere but here. I still am great full for the opportunity to have had the chance to read this.

I really liked the thriller part of this novel but the romantic part just wasn’t working for me. The author’s writing style is just a little too flowery for me to love. I also wish it was told from the perspectives of Kane and Lily rather than adding in the other two women, I found it took away from the couple and their dynamic.
Overall, it was a fun escape and an ok read, my first by this author.

Wouldn't be surprised if this book struggles to find an audience to stick around for book 2, and the error lies in the marketing.

It's labelled as "domestic suspense", but it shouldn't be. I read domestic suspense: Samantha Hayes, Nicci French... You know, properly suspenseful reads.

Whereas SO CLOSE doesn't even show any inkling of suspense until...Chapter 36. Of a 48-chapter novel. I knew ahead of time that this is part one of a duology, but come on - Chapter 36 is far too little too late to suddenly remember what this is supposed to be.

The end of the novel is totally rushed as Lily finally has some honest POV chapters, thus making it clear that her earlier chapters probably shouldn't have been included.

So WTF is this book? Family drama. There, that wasn't so hard to accurately label. But it's marketed for the audience it WANTS - not the audience it's actually suited for.

As for characterisation...boring. Lily and Kane are hot and boring. Aliyah is powerful and boring. Amy is the only one with somewhat of a unique voice and has more interesting things to think, say, and do. Unfortunately, we're probably not supposed to cheer for her above everyone else, but eff that - she's a hot mess and I'm Team Amy.
