I've tried to read this book on four different occasions and I just can't get into it at all. I don't know what it is but it feels very similar to what I know about Fifty Shades of Gray and some other office esc books I've read. I think in the end that I'm just going to count this as a DNF and move on. I already have so many books I want to read and I can't waist my time.

I had an extremely hard time getting into this novel. It seemed drawn out compared to some of this author's other works. I also felt that maybe there was too many POVs to focus on the main storyline. In some spots there was far too much information being withheld that it drew me out of the story. Not sure if I'll continue with book two.

It's been a while since The Crossfire Saga so I enjoyed reading Sylvia Day's new book So Close. I can't wait for the next book!

A sex thriller that will leave you open mouthed and screaming! The perfect mix of mystery, love and too die for dark.

Kane Black's life revolves around the memory of his deceased wife, Lily, who mysteriously reappears after a sailing accident. With Lily's return, Kane hopes to find purpose again. However, three women complicate his journey: Aliyah, his manipulative mother; Amy, who becomes obsessed with him; and Lily herself, with her amnesia and hidden motives. This psychological thriller provides multiple perspectives, including Lily's unique way of communicating with Kane. While connected to the Crossfire saga, this book stands on its own. Prepare for twists, intricate relationships, and the impending conclusion in the next installment, TOO FAR.

I will be honest and say I struggled some with this story. I adore the Crossfire series so I was looking forward to this one. I felt it lacked a little magic but still had great bones.

So Close by Sylvia Day was a great first series book! I love this author and have been anxiously waiting a new novel and series from her! This was a brilliant read, full of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages throughout. This was not a typical romance story, but I sure went through every emotion along the way and there was definitely a lot of spice added to the story. I loved how the book was told from different perspectives, which allowed us to see each character individually and to see their side of the story. Aliyah was just a horrible woman and I really felt sorry for Amy. Witte was such a solid character and we could all do with him in our lives.
The twist at the end of the book I definitely did not see coming, but the ending left me with more questions than answers and I can't wait to read what happens next.

Really enjoyed this. I loved the crossfire series and was nice to hear Gideon and Eva mentioned in this series too. I did not like aliyah and was unsure what to make of lily. Can not wait for.book 2 to.come.out.

I am a huge fan of Sylvia Day's books and couldn't wait for this new series. I feel like it had a lot of potential but it just didn't grab me like most of her books. Hopefully, after reading the upcoming sequel it will answer all of the questions that this one just left you wondering about.

I feel like this book was a smidge out of my comfort zone, but I really ended up enjoying it! I loved the multiple POVs, and I am a sucker for privileged rich people drama. The entire storyline with Lily had me so confused the whole time, but I think that’s kind of the point and I really enjoyed it because it kept me wanting to read and wanting to figure it all out (which I never did). Also the smut… WOW. 10/10.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this and I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy:
- multiple POVs
- rich people drama
- unreliable narrator vibes
- smut

I was sad to see this book had some negative reviews on Goodreads and almost all of them were just people complaining that they had to wait too long for the book. I understand that people don't like to wait, but I also think it's so silly to give the book a bad review because you're bitter you had to wait a few years for it. Cmon people.

Ok, that being said, I think the book was absolutely worth the wait and should be read, enjoyed and rated on its contents alone. I liked the darkness of it, I liked the pacing, and I truly don't think I've read anything like it. The female characters were so great and really added to the depth and enjoyability of the story. All in all, I say ignore the bitter haters and read this book!

I started So Close but just couldn’t get into it. Stepped away and tried again another day but, again, just couldn’t connect to the writing style or story. This one is a miss for me but can’t really weigh in with an actual review.

Loved the nod to the crossfire series. It was a steamy mystery which was fun because I hadn’t even realized there was a mystery aspect. The POVs confused me a little, but I quickly caught on.

"So Close" by Sylvia Day is a departure from her previous Crossfire series. Although I enjoyed this book, I found parts of it very perplexing and my confusion did decrease my enjoyment of the novel overall. I plan to sit with the book for a few weeks and then re-read it as I expect I will be more engaged the second time around.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This review is a really hard one to write, as it's not only negative but also to be honest I DON'T know what I read about - I can't think about the aim/set-up of this story for the future. This is my first story from Ms. Day and to be honest, I will try only due to amazing opinions from my bookish friends.
I love when my book crosses some kind of border that makes me explore new things and feelings, but then I need this story to be captivating, and intriguing - which this story is not in my eyes. This story should be one of my beloved ones - a dark billionaire romance with thriller/mystery elements. This story is told from four different POVs: Wittie (the butler), Aliyah (Kane's mother), Amy (Lily's sister), and Lily (Kane's dead wife, that was "found after six years). Each of those is different, to be honest, I had only managed to connect with one - the butler as the others were maybe too strange or disconnected for my liking. For example, Lily's POV is a second person POV that consists of sentences like "You...", which for me is not engaging at all, and does not allow to smoothly follow the history.
What also would be needed here is the development of a character as they had their traits, but were not real to me, just flat ones that do not make it possible to connect with them and cheer, but I still don't know who to follow when it comes to romance part (which was so little). Oh, and I have to mention that there was also a sudden twist that was not making sense to me as it was coming out of nowhere in my opinion. I wish I had something better to say about this book, but I have to be honest with myself.

I found this story VERY interesting. It is different from her other books if you are familiar with the Crossfire series. Lots of twists and turns, some parts were confusing. It was overall a good read.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and Ronin House.

Kane Black is a powerful and formidable man. There’s only one thing holding him back - the death of his wife Lily a few years back, that he’s never been able to get over. But when he sees a woman who looks like her double in Manhattan, he’s overcome by the need to take care of her, and get his life back on track. Meanwhile his siblings and mother are suspicious of her, and what she really wants from Kane.

I read the Crossfire series from Sylvia Day about ten years ago, so I was really excited to see this come up on my NetGalley list! When I started reading and realized it takes place in the same world, with appearances by Gideon and Eva Cross, I was excited to get back into it. But this one took me on an entirely different journey than Crossfire. This is mysterious, and dark. The characters are all intense and mysterious. The mysteries that kept unfolding were piling up, and I had no idea what some of the answers could be! But when it wrapped all together, it was not what I expected at all!

I read quite a lot of thrillers, and I usually feel like I have some ideas of where the story is going. With this one, I STILL have a lot of questions, and some of the mysteries are yet to be solved. This was captivating and exciting, and had that Sylvia Day eloquence (and spice) that I loved from Crossfire. I cannot wait for the next book to be released!!

SO CLOSE is the first instalment in Sylvia Day’s contemporary, adult BLACKLIST dark, erotic, suspense, thriller set in the author’s CROSSFIRE world. This is thirty-two-year old, billionaire businessman Kane Black and his wife Lily’s story line.

Told from four first person perspectives (Witte, Amy, Aliyah, Lily) and second person (Lily) SO CLOSE follows the dysfunctional Black / Armand family as they battle one another for control of the family fortune and businesses, businesses built with someone else’s money. Six years earlier, Kane Black’s wife Lily, disappeared and thought to have drowned a few days after their wedding, and in the interim, Kane Black struggled with what happened and why. Six years searching the faces of nameless women who looked like the woman he continued to love ended with the ‘return’ of his wife, a hit and run, and weeks of recovery and rehab. All is not well, Lily is not the woman Kane Black remembers, and the family must now battle someone else for control of Baharan Pharmaceuticals, ECRA+ (Cosmeceuticals) and the Social Creamery Management Agency.

Kane Black has romantacized and idolized his missing wife so much so that no other woman could compare. Women tried, including those he considered family and friends, but the memory of his wife, his Lily, could never be erased, no matter how anybody tried. The unreality of perfection was paramount, her existence was thought to be the madness of a fractured mind. Lily is an enigma-Kane’s obsession a mystery and bewilderment but with her return, more questions arise for everyone involved.

The secondary and supporting characters play a major role throughout the story line often taking the lead perspectives: Kane Black’s siblings Darius Armand and his wife Amy, brother Ramin Armand, and their sister Rosana Armand; their mother Aliyah; Kane’s majordomo and security specialist Nick Witte; Tech specialist Ryan Landon of LanCorp; Drs Goldstein and Hamid, and the return of Gideon and Eva Cross.

Throughout the story Lily talks to herself, about Lily in third person but addresses Kane (to the reader) in second person point of view. We are up close and personal with Lily, Amy, Aliyah and Witte’s thoughts and thought processes-Lily’s thoughts reveal a darkness, an unknown, a secret past that is about to return. Kane Black’s persona and power are revealed through his interactions with, and observations by other characters- Kane’s perception and knowledge all come from second-hand information.

SO CLOSE is a slow building story line; a complex and detailed tale involving many moving and hidden parts following several intersecting pathways and channels. Think ‘SUCCESSION’ but more dysfunctional, darker and dangerous with assassins, espionage, and organized crime, hidden and blatant desperation, infidelity, jealousy and greed, secret lives, obsession and betrayal. The narcissism is strong; the hate is vitriolic and acerbic; the desolation and misery are flagrant; the power and control are dominant. The premise is heavy and intricate; the romance is bewitching; the characters are desperate, determined and dynamic. SO CLOSE ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
