An actor and his ghostwriter put in extra hours in Rachel Lynn Solomon's scorching, bighearted romance, Business or Pleasure. Chandler has worked as a professional ghostwriter since the Web journalism site she worked for closed. After a dispiriting book event for her latest client, Chandler meets a gorgeous, charming stranger and goes back to his hotel with him. Unfortunately, they have the worst sex of her life. Even worse? She finds out the next day she's going to be ghostwriting his debut memoir.

Since his fan-favorite role on the paranormal teen drama The Nocturnals, Finn hasn't landed many acting roles. Most of his work time is spent traveling to fan conventions, so he and Chandler travel the country as he shares his life story and she turns it into a book. Naturally, they also engage in some extracurricular activities in the form of sex lessons. Lord of the Rings mega-fan Finn and fledgling cozy mystery writer Chandler will make even the most jaded romance readers blush.

As usual, Solomon's characters are well-developed and relatable. Finn and Chandler are both Jewish, and their faith shapes their lives and their connection to each other to varying degrees. Solomon (Weather Girl) also treats the subjects of abortion and mental health with care and respect--Finn has obsessive-compulsive disorder, and Chandler has clinical anxiety. Business or Pleasure is a steamy love letter to fandom and creative passion, set in the form of a forced-proximity workplace romance. Fans of Book Lovers and A Merry Little Meet Cute, take note.

Chandler finds out her next ghostwriting project is for her former one night stand and C-List actor, Finn Walsh. When Chandler tells Finn that their night together wasn’t great, he convinces her to help him with his skills.

I love Rachel Lynn Solomon’s books, and this was just as good as her others!

Chandler Cohen had dreams of writing fiction when the practicalities of making a living prompted her to switch focus to journalism instead, but the dream has never died. However, after being laid off she had to change her career focus again and started ghost writing celebrity memoirs. Her latest job working with a shallow influencer has her questioning her path. This is how she ends up having a drink that leads to an awkward one-night stand. She thinks she’ll never see him again only to find out he’s her newest celebrity client.

Finnegan Walsh, stars in a supernatural TV series, The Nocturnals, that formed a cult following. It kind of reminded me of the love for Buffy (huge fan here!) series, centering on werewolves. Finnegan is shocked to learn that the one-night stand was less than stellar for Chandler, and he’d like a chance to improve which leads to Chandler and Finn embarking on lessons while they work together, road-tripping on Finn’s fan-tour across the states.

I did feel the reason Chandler held back in their relationship, thinking Finn wasn’t serious about her only that he was in it for the lessons only, was weak. Her insecurities about their status could’ve been cleared up with a conversation. Thankfully, this wasn’t a drawn out, drama filled situation.

Their lessons are extremely steamy, but their connection becomes more than physical as the tour goes on. As they spend time delving into Finn’s life, Finn wants to know about Chandler as well, and they swap stories forming a deeper and deeper connection.

Finn and Chandler were complex characters, imperfect, but likable. There were some heavier subjects dealt with here like coping with OCD, complicated parental relationships, and antisemitism. There was a nice Jewish representation, as well. Business or Pleasure is the third book I’ve thoroughly enjoyed by Rachel Lynn Solomon and it’s the hottest book to date!

I loved this so much! Rachel Lynn Solomon is quickly becoming one of my auto-read authors. Chandler and Finn were so sweet together and their flirting and banter was fun. I really loved how sex positive this was and the mental health rep. The character growth was excellent. Chandler and Finn's meeting gave them the opportunity to learn what they want, to grow together, and lead to bigger things in both of their lives.

I highly recommend to any romance lover and a big shout out to the narrator of the audiobook - Hathaway Lee!

Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon was a romantic romp filled with witty and sarcastic banter. It contains full-on open door spicy sex scenes – buckle up!

I fell in love with the two MCs. Chandler is stuck in the shadows as she ghost writes books for celebrities, and Finn, who lives in the spotlight touring in conventions from his time in a popular werewolf show. (Think Twilight.) The yin and yang between them was spot on. Neither are thrilled by where they’ve landed in life and it’s through their friendship that they begin to find themselves.

I use the term friendship lightly as Chandler is also giving Finn “lessons” for when he’s with other women. This whole concept could’ve gone awry and been ridiculously cheesy, but it did not. It was actually well done with a sex positive theme honed throughout the story.

I really appreciate Solomon’s representation of Jewish characters and normalizing the rituals she brings to light. Also, huge kudos to the narrator (Hathaway Lee) of the audio book – great job.

Grab this one for your beach bag if you want some spice in your reading repertoire.

Enjoyable but when I finished it felt a bit lackluster. Not sure if it’s due to some plot points feeling unresolved or some other reason. Always appreciate the Jewish rep. 3.5 stars

Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for the eARC.

I started and stopped this one so many times because I couldn’t get into it at first, but I’m so happy to report that I was wrong 🫡 finn is the cutest MMC ever and I will die on this hill from this cinnamon roll of a human being

I absolutely love books about publishing, authors and ghostwriters! I feel like I’m getting an inside scoop on the world of fiction, and seeing the process of ghostwriting in this plot was no different. RLS did a fabulous job with it!!

finn was a golden retriever love interest, genuinely caring about mental health, healthy relationships & improving oneself for others 🥹 I mean, men written by women right?? the OCD rep was so well written too

the slow-burn relationship between the two was a LOT, and even with the teasing, I found it took a little too long to pay off and hold my interest. however, the way that these two communicated with each other so much had me screaming!!! we have to stan healthy relationships!!!!

this only solidifies my fantasy that I will meet a hot actor or actress and live out the rest of my days with them thank you 🫶🏼

thank you times a million to berkley and netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review! sorry it took me so long to read 😅😩🙏🏼

What a delightful read! I was immediately drawn into the story because of Chandler and loved her growth throughout the book and her relationship with Finn. The build-up to their first night together was so fantastic and then the letdown of the night was described so well. I'm glad Finn took the criticism and was eager to learn from his mistake. All of my favorite books have memorable side characters (best friends, family members, etc.) and this did not disappoint in that aspect!

Oh I just loved this book!!! Rachel Lynn Solomon knows how to write romance that sucks me in and makes me feel like I know the characters. I loved the Jewish rep in this one! I enjoyed the travel and the different places Chandler and Finn got to go. The little insider into ghostwriting was fun to read too. I loved the progression of Chandler and Finn's relationship especially after their awkward first night together!

Business or Pleasure by Rachel Lynn Solomon

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a ghostwriter? Better yet ever wonder what it’s like to end up being the ghostwriter for your worst nightmare one-night stand? Chandler Cohen knows.

I loved the humor of this book as well as the growth both main characters made. Their chance meeting led to bigger things, and the chance to grow together. Solomon’s characters are always quirky and delightful.

Thanks @netgalley and @berkleypub for this advanced reader!

Chandler (a ghostwriter) has a very unsatisfying one night stand, from which she sneaks out of the room of in the night. The next day she is offered a great new writing gig, only to find out that it is with the guy she was with the night before. I think it's kinda fun, because she gets to have the honest and frank conversation with him about the experience that most women dream of. He enlists her to "teach" him after he has some honest self-reflection. What ensues is a great friendship, with benefits. But, what happens when those friendly feelings turn into something more? Very cute, sex positive story with mental health representation. I really enjoyed it, and there are easter eggs for those who have read any of the authors books.

Thank you Berkley and NetGalley for the eARC!

This book was sensational! The portrayal of mental health throughout this story was so well done. The lessons they embarked on were super hot and like actually really informative (maybe give this book to someone who needs these lessons! They might learn a thing or two!). The story overall felt like a big hug because their relationship was so warm and cozy. This is a must read!
