This book's value for your home and life is tremendous. The vibe and atmosphere of your home indeed translate to your life. Making a change, even a small one, makes a huge difference in your attitude and energy. Before reading this I had been wanting to make some changes to my home, but I didn't know exactly what to do. While reading through, I was able to intentionally think through my home and began to feel inspired so that I could be deliberate in the changes that I wanted to make. Some were big like rearranging furniture, and others were small like adding a plant, but these physical changes in my home have led to mental and emotional changes in myself, and I am excited to see how those continue.

Find Yourself at Home is a great book for anyone who wants to create a more meaningful and inspiring home environment. The author draws on old and new techniques to provide practical tips on how to arrange your space in a way that reflects your values and aspirations. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I think it could be a helpful resource for anyone who is looking to create a more positive and productive home life.

This book is more about concepts and emotions that technical care and design of a home. While the concepts can be applied to many homes and environments, middle-class Americans are most likely to connect with the author. Additionally, this book is mostly text, there are very few images or illustrations. For books like this, I think there should have been more to visually illustrate concepts. I would recommend this for fans of Joanna Gaines who actually want to just read text.

Full of philosophy and feng shui, this home design book is heavy on text and light on graphics. Not exactly a "coffee table" book but I would definitely give it as a gift to a new homeowner.

Find Yourself at Home: A Conscious Approach to Shaping Your Space and Your Life (Chronicle Books, 2023) steps beyond the well-defined pages of a home design book to fully immerse each reader in contemporary and spiritual practices beneficial in making a living space more personal.

Emily Grosvenor, the editor of Oregon Home magazine, walks you through her experiences discovering the transformational power of environmental design and collaboration and the influence of feng shui in her design-thinking and developmental process.

Her years as a design journalist and consultant, as well as the benefit of an intuitive understanding of space, design, and energy flow, influenced the development of her five-step Find Yourself at Home philosophy (all steps in her exact wording), which includes:

1. Connect with the mystery and power of your home
2. Prepare your environment for your story
3. Discover design tools to cue your behavior
4. Bring your aspirations into your space
5. Take your purpose into the world

The book spreads this five-step philosophy into five sections: Philosophy, Space, Build, Desire, and Destiny. And Grosvenor even adds thoughtful questions at the end of each chapter, such as “What do you see your house as? a home base? A playground? A jewel box?”

If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading a book published by Chronicle before, Find Yourself at Home encompasses many of its mainstays: cute, clever cover design; and illustrations throughout that support the topic well but also make you wish you could buy coordinating clothing or wallpaper!

Emily Grosvenor’s Find Yourself at Home: A Conscious Approach to Shaping Your Space and Your Life offers a new interpretation of home living for the 2020s--one that includes deep work and decompressing in the living space that once was a showcase for others to walk through is something I can find myself at home with.

d Yourself at Home
A Conscious Approach to Shaping Your Space and Your Life
by Emily Grosvenor

Note this book’s subtitle as it accurately describes what is inside. The author is well qualified to write on her subject as she is a Feng Shui consultant (and also a magazine editor). Grosvenor has also been perusing the real estate ads ever since she was a child.

In these pages, the author offers many insights and suggestions on how to make one’s living space just right. In doing this, Grosvenor draws on many traditions that readers may well find inspiring. She looks at a home through the lenses of “philosophy (connect with the mystery and power of your home), space (prepare your environment for your story), build (discovering design tools to cue your behavior) and desire (bringing your aspirations into you space).”

I enjoyed the personal sharing that the author offers in these pages. I also liked what I would call, activities, questions or things to think about. As an example, she asks readers to determine their home’s values. To help them she provides a list of many words that will enable readers to hone in on what is important fo them.

The illustrations in this book greatly add to what is found here. They all feel very peaceful and evoke the book’s spirit.

Those who read this title will, I think, begin to look at their spaces more mindfully and intently. Some genuine improvement and happiness may be the result.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for this title. All opinions are my own.

I like the book, I thought the information for mapping out your home was the most useful and offered something that was different from other self help books that I've read. For me the last line of the book about loving your home is the key take away from the entire book.

Overall, I like the book. I am quite familiar with Feng Shui and I thought the author did a good job laying out the basics of Feng Shui and house harmony. There are lots of details which she presented in an informative manner. I liked her honest appraisal of when her health was impacted and how she rearranged her house, which I did too so I understand where she was coming from. Yet, all houses are not created equal and perhaps that point needed more emphasis. The reason I say that is , my house is/ was built as a summer cabin and done with out any thought. I've had to rearrange how I see my house and I did specifiacally use Feng Shui to do that. But not everyone will see that .
Still it is an informative book and well worth the time to read. I especially like the 'move 27 things' which I have done iand is quite effective for moving energy.

I was so excited to receive this book from netgalley. I took some of the ideas offered throughout and have decided to apply them to my life. I very much want my home to be a safe haven for my family. Unfortunately, I felt the book got too intense for me - it left me feeling overwhelmed with the idea that previous home owners' lives will affect my own between these walls. I like to believe that it's our own energy and choices that affect what's happening around us, not people from the past.

A thought-provoking guide to making your space your own. In what ways might color, decluttering, feng shui, and many other adjustments bring your space into alignment with the life you want to be living?

This might be a great gift for new homeowners and/or anyone who feels stuck in place. I'm certainly going to utilize a few of these tips in my own space right now!

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book made the overwhelming feeling task of decorating the home and made it into easy to digest sections. I liked the idea the author was trying to prove that our homes are an extension of ourselves and sometimes a direct reflection of how we are feeling. The religious aspects in this book are there but minimal enough that they didn’t bother me at all. My favorite part of the book was the last section where the author delved into how to make an energy map of your home and ideas on how to enhance each area. I don’t know much about feng shui so this part was fascinating and very informative. Overall the information was great and easy enough for a beginner at home decor but also had insights for people who already have a distinct vision in their home.

Somethings taking a new approach or adding new things into our life/ home does ave it benefits. The author didn’t know lack on any aspect of this book, it was so well orchestrated, the organization of topics, ideas etc we’re mapped out so well.

As an autistic adult this helped give me new ideas to have more a routine and feel balance at the same time. Highly recommend this to add to any home.

This isn’t a “how to organize your house” book. If you’re looking for tips on that, find something else.

What this book IS, is a way to connect to the energy in your home, utilize feng shui, take your purpose and staging your story in the home you live in. It helps you see your space and the pieces in it as messaging to your senses. How does a room make you feel? Do the objects in the room feel warm and inviting or cold and unwelcoming? This book touches on quite a bit.

Another aspect is leftover energy. I found this book super interesting in that regard. I believe in energy existing in spaces beyond the people that inhabited them. If you don’t believe in anything but a house being a house, you’ll find this book not to your liking. I appreciate the fact there are some tidbits about research done as well, I’m always up for a good fact.

I think the information contained in this book, at the very least, will get your wheels turning and considering the space you live in and HOW it affects you. This book opens up your perspective.

ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When looking for home/life organization and simplification books I find that having an aesthetic and beautiful photos make the book. This book didn’t have any photos. If you are a lover of feng shui this book is for you.

This just wasn’t a good fit for me. I loved the description of making my home match my life but I didn’t realize it was basically stuff like fung shui and how I should have all kinds of things that represent wealth in my upper right quadrant of my house. It also has no photos, and in my homemaking books I like photos and inspiration.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.

Thank you to the publisher and author for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

This book had a lot of great tips. I don’t feel that I was the right audience for it but I would definitely pick it up again in the future, perhaps after I bought my first home.

If you are a big fan of Feng Shui and you believe the energy left behind from the previous homeowner may consume you so much that if the previous owners separated then your relationship could end after you move in, then this book is for you. I personally wasn’t very thrilled with this book. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
