I loved this short and sweet graphic novel! The illustrations and colours were amazing but I would have loved for the characters to be a little more developed with the friendship aspect.
I adored it and I would love to read more from these two!

A fun short story about a garden sprite and a young girl using magic, friendship, and teamwork to get a garden to grow.

The story is whimsical and lovely on its own, but I think I really enjoyed the illustrations the most. They have an incredible magical quality to them that perfectly fits and enhances the story. And it has a soft and cozy feel to it that reminds me of The Tea Dragon Tapestry.

I've read this before during it's original publishing, but coming back and reading it again really made me love it even more. I think that it's a book that can appeal to all ages, not just children.

Thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for making this available in exchange for an honest review!

Sprites are the caretakers of the world's flora, but now they have to share the world and that duty with humans.

Wisteria is new to town and is feeling a little insecure about fitting in with the local sprites. While exploring, she stumbles upon a human named Elena who is trying to restore her mom's backyard to its former beauty since her mom has to work too much now to take care of it. Together Elena, Wisteria, and eventually her other sprite pals work to fill the lawn with vibrant, blooming life.

This was such a cute story with really pretty, soft illustrations.

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This was a cute story about friendship and gardens. Wisteria, a sprite, is new to the neighborhood and its gardens. Wisteria adopts a baren garden and its gardener. The story shows how Wisteria and the gardener interact.
The evolution of the friendship and the exposure of the sprites was wonderful to see. The colors were bright and tended toward pinks and purples. There were plenty of flowers and gardens.
This is a good story for anyone.

A big thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for gifting me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Delightful and reminiscence of the Tea Dragon Society, this is perfect fit for readers with a green thumb for both plants that thrive or made of plastic.

The Sprite and the Gardener by Rii Abrego and Joe Whitt is a graphic novel that is fueled on whimsy and Studio Ghibli vibes. Long ago gardens were taken care of by little creatures known as sprites, who possessed a delicate type of magic. But their jobs were slowly taken by humans, sprites and their magic became a thing of the past. Until one named Whisteria starts asking questions.

I would highly recommend this graphic novel to anyone wanting to read something as gorgeous as Studio Ghibli film, without the dedication of having to sit and watch for hours on end. As well as anyone with a proper green thumb.

This is a stunning graphic novel about a sprite who helps a woman create a lush garden. I remember seeing the art that this graphic novel is based off of on social media and I’m super happy to be able to see if formed into a full graphic novel. The art and coloring in the story is beautiful and Wisteria is absolutely adorable. I wish it was longer because I could read a whole series about the neighborhood and their sprites!

Thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for the ARC of this short graphic novel!

I absolutely adored every page of “The Sprite and the Gardener” by Rii Abrego and Joe Whitt. The art is entrancing, and the story is soft, sweet, and encourages collaboration and friendship. The character designs include multiple body types and are detailed and beautiful. I will be recommending this book to young readers who enjoy fairies and will probably make it part of my library’s Friendship/Unity summer reading program in 2023.

This was such a sweet and lovely and cozy read. I really enjoyed the tea dragon society, and this one was no different. Definitely pick this one up!

Wisteria, Amaranth , Moss, Hortensia… they are the sprites of the forest and they are the caretakers of life and nature.

The ambiance is flowery, cozy and cuddly. I loved the drawings , the story and the message it tries to give us: we are stronger together.
Perfect for those who love nature and especially flowers and those looking for a cute read!

In the same vain as The Tea Dragon's Society series, this is such a wholesome graphic novel that I would happily purchase for any children in my life (or friends with joyous hearts). It was touching without ever being overly cheesy and the artwork was beautiful. Very cute read.

Note: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've been meaning to read this for such a long time, so thank you to Oni Press for the advanced copy prior to the paperback release! This was fun read because not only is the story simple and the art beautiful, but it felt so nostalgic—anyone else who as read the Rose Petal Place books will totally understand!! And, for the younger crowd, I guess I should say if you've seen/read the modern-day Tinkerbell series, you will probably enjoy this too! Each little sprite with their own flora qualities was so sweet, the plant magic wholesome, and the interactions with humans funny and endearing.

The only downside for me is the color palette; I wouldn't consider myself sensitive, but there was something about the color scheme of this book that my eyes did not vibe with. It gives it a vintage feel though, so I completely understand the choice, and hopefully it won't phase most people. Definitely still a book I enjoy and would recommend.

They are flying sprites, sprinkling their magical touch on deadened and broken flowers. She finds her way onto a garden of practically nothing as one particular sprite. Giving it her all to make the flowers bloom, the young sprite is caught by the young gardener. Together they make some magic fly, and flowers grow.
This graphic book is freakin' adorable!! I'm so in love with it. I just loved the character's designs and those pastel palettes of colors. The relationship between the sprite and the gardener is too cute, and the outcomes of the backyard garden are stunning. It made my day even brighter, rereading this again. This comic book plucks at one's heartstrings for all ages and never let's go.

This was such a sweet and succinct story. The sprite was such a lovely character, dreaming of an idyllic past while connecting her fellow sprites and humans in the present. I appreciated the communal experience of all the sprites trusting her and joining in on this garden venture. It wasn't a complicated story, it was just fluffy enough. I would definitely read this again and get prints of all the gorgeous artwork!
