The Girl Under the Floor by Charlie Gallagher is quite a gripping crime thriller with a great twist, as described. There is such great emotion weaved into the scenes. The grief and wording and the characters actions had me in tears in several places.

Maddie and her team are in a race against time. A couple's brutalized bodies are found in their home's hallway. This is the second house of horrors that Maddie and her team have been called out to in a matter of days. Four days earlier, a single mother was also stabbed to death in her own home. Maddie's partner Vince was first on the scene. He finds the lady's traumatized daughter, Jade, trapped under the floorboards.

The key to the mystery lies with eleven-year-old Jade.

There are so many touching moments in the book that had me in tears. Between Vince dealing with his sick sister, his nephew, and then Jade and what she went through brought many real moments and heart-wrenching scenes.

The story had a great atmosphere, and the characters were quite interesting and well-developed.

I need to go back and read some of the earlier books in this series, but I would recommend this book. I did not feel I missed anything by not reading some of the earlier books.

I would recommend this book and this author. I read this book in one day; I could not put it down once I started. I needed to know what was going to happen, and I was really invested in the character relationships and how everything played out.

A 5 out of 5 stars.
