This was a really fun book. It can be read in multiple ways. When one needs a quick fun story, they can read the tale of the butterfly looking for the largest number. When they need to know about big numbers, there are info bits about that, and there are info bits about other things of note such as life of a butterfly, or volts of electricity in a lightbulb. Overall, this book works on many levels that kids will find fun.

Pebbles is on the mission many kids are on - to find the biggest number! Pebbles is an adorable butterfly that wants to learn about bigger numbers. On her journey to find the biggest number, Pebbles travels to different biomes and meets different animals. This book is written as part story, and part educational notes. So you could either read it straight through, and just focus on Pebbles' journey, or stop along the way and read the other notes and facts about science. This book is perfect for any inquisitive child!

Pebbles is on the lookout for the biggest number! A bright and colourful book all about big numbers. This would be an excellent book to read in the classroom and to use in a number investigation. The story puts the different numbers into real life context and shows what they look like written down. The illustrations are eye catching but not too busy. I highly recommend this book for children of all ages!

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

This is the story of Pebbles the butterfly and his quest to find the biggest number. Some of these numbers even my 11 year old did not know she was amazed by how big the numbers got. The science facts are very interesting.

This was such a sweet adventure book for kids. Each page contains beautiful images & facts that surely will keep kids of all ages engaged. On the younger end, families could just read the story about Pebbles’ journey & as the kiddos grow or if you’re reading to an older audience, the other facts & information can be intertwined. I also enjoyed the different sceneries & places around the world that this book depicted. Another part of the book I appreciated was the last part of the book: there is a scientist that looks to be a woman, which is remains the minority in science fields.
I think the dedications and about the author were so sweet & I love that the book inspires kiddos to think big, bigger and even bigger!

My son (8) read this with me. We both loved it! The information was so informative and fun. The pictures were also well done.

As for curriculum, I could totally see an elementary school teacher or science teacher using this book. As an adult I learned many facts and my son was reciting them again this morning.

Some pages were a little cluttered and by the end, my son was wondering, "how many more pages" so it was a little long. But we read the entire story and did the number and science spotlight as we read.

Pebbles and the Biggest Number by Joey Benun is such a well thought out book. There are so much teachable content in this story that a whole thematic unit can be created. Science and math are integrated in this story that is filled with cute and bright illustrations that will grab young ones' attention.

I really enjoyed this one and will be adding it to my classroom library.

Is it sad that I probably learned more from this book than my son?

Super cute book that follows Pebbles the butterfly in search of the biggest number. The animals he meets along the way help out and there are animal facts woven throughout the story. Pebbles faces some obstacles but he gets threw them with help from his friends.

A great blend of science and learning about numbers! 5 year old approved!

This book was really inviting with the colourful pages. I loved the “science spot, number note, fun fact” boxes. This is a great book for a grade school child to learn about numbers and others facts in an entertaining way.

Join butterfly as he goes looking for the largest number. Adults may even learn about numbers they never heard of in school.

This is a delightful story to read with children exploring numbers and learning place value. The combination of math and science facts with the whimsical plot will make learning fun.

Starting at 100,000 and ending at infinity, a plucky little butterfly named Pebbles travels the globe to different environments asking the resident wildlife about the biggest number they’ve ever heard. Such a cute book that keeps the kiddos engaged while sharing cool facts and numbers. My oldest LOVES nature and math so this absolutely hit the spot. Great book!

Thank you, NetGalley!

This book is super cool! It starts out with small, manageable numbers that are under 100, and builds through the story to huge numbers like nonillion (I didn't know that was a number and I'm an adult!). As the book progresses the author carefully introduces large numbers in context and explains what they would look like ie. 27 million has 6 zeros after it and is the same temperature as the sun's core. The book also includes lots of interesting scientific facts along with the exploration on numbers. While it is a fiction story about a butterfly wanting to find the biggest number, it is also a great introduction to non-fiction text features, such as text boxes, a glossary and infographics like the one included at the back of the book. I could definitely see myself using this book to start an inquiry in math or science class and think it would be a great book for children to explore independently or with an adult/classmates. I would recommend this book for children in the age 7-11 range. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
