I was intrigued to pick up Immortality: A Love Story after enjoying Anatomy earlier this year. Overall, I think this sequel worked better for me. Immortality sees Hazel after losing Jack and coming into her own as a physician (even if she’s unlicensed). The blur between fiction and reality gets stronger here as the fantastical elements of this story expand, but I found it more satisfying to see that happen. I can imagine my teenage self would have been very invested in this story, and my adult self is interested to see where it continues to go from here.
One small annoyance: the audiobook book narrator seems not to know the difference between “condescension” and “condensation” as words, since she repeatedly said “condensention.” This really bugged me and I hope it might be improved before the final version goes into the world.

I wanted to like this so badly. I love the narrator, I think she had a gripping voice that made me compelled to continue reading this, I’m going to be honest though, I had it on 2x the speed (even more at times) to get through it. I just was not invested in the world, characters, or plot. I think the premise of this book, and the first instalment, were very strong- but I felt the execution was incredibly lacking. I felt the character development was poorly paced, which made me not want care about the outcome of their stories.
Overall, love the narrator, I think the author has strong ideas, but the execution fell flat.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan audio for this ARC! This was a great continuation of the first book and I really enjoyed it. I love the narrator for this series, her accent is amazing and adds to the story. I wouldn’t mind another book in this series! Hazel + Jack forever <3

Super excited to continue reading (listening to) Hazel’s story! I honestly thought it was a single book. As a woman in the medical field, I love the historical fiction, girl-power in STEM vibes from this series. It continues on into this book. Hazel doesn’t take crap from anyone. The narrator(s…the male voice was infrequent) was phenomenal, as in the first book. Her accents and inflections gave the story a multi-dimensional feel. My one (super minor, that will be removed from this review upon posting) hang-up was the way condescension was pronounced as “con-den-scen-sion”. Maybe that’s an accent thing? Overall, the story was rich and amazing. I smiled constantly at the cleverness as I listened to the last 45 minutes or so…and I was in the supermarket the whole time, so I’m sure people thought I was mildly loony. Well done again, Dana!

Immortality was a great sequel! I love historical twists in my YA. Kept my interest and I loved the love story.
