📚 Book Review 📚
A huge thanks to @netgalley and HarperCollins Canada for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Title: The Whistling
Author: Rebecca Netley
Genre: Historical Fiction / Mystery / Supernatural
Date published: 2023
Primary Setting: Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

📚Synopsis:
Set in 1860 Scotland, Elspeth, a young woman haunted by grief and loss of her own, arrives at Iskar Manor on a sparsely populated island to nanny a young girl named Mary who has also endured great loss. The island and manor soon begin to reveal their secrets to Elspeth, and the more she learns, the more she believes the rumours of hauntings and witchcraft may be true. As Elspeth’s unease and fear grow, she struggles to find a way to keep herself and Mary safe and sane.

✍️ My review:
A perfect ghost story to share around a camp-fire or cuddle up under the blankets with. I usually prefer contemporary fiction, but this setting and time-frame was the perfect fit for this eerie and well-paced ghost story. As I was reading this I had images of the author sitting with writers such as Mary Shelley for one of their “creative ghost story” writing contests. I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun and creepy classic-style ghost story.

💕You might like this book if:
🔹You like haunted houses, spirits from beyond, and witchcraft
🔹 you like characters that are trying to save someone (hero’s journey)
🔹you like a good, old-fashioned ghost story
