Unlikeable Female Characters read like the most fun dissertation someone could ever write. I’m here for “unlikeable” women and this felt like a deep dive into pop culture meets validation. I love that it was broken down into all archetypes that are thrust upon women because the patriarchy *loves* to classify us and brainwash women into judging each other!!

Easy to read and free of the somewhat prohibitive lingo of academic media analysis, Unlikable Female Character provides a short and interesting history of female representation in American movie and television through the lense of the women we are meant to dislike.
I wish more time was spent on certain types of unlikable women but considering the amount of history and examples the author managed to cram in relatively few pages I can't really hold it against the book. I particularly enjoyed the author's criticism of the idea that women representation necessarily has to be feminist in some kind of way to be worthy.

This was a really well done nonfiction book about women in pop culture, it was a unique read and I enjyoed getting to go from section to section. Anna Bogutskaya has a great writing style and you could tell that the author did the research and cared about the topic. Overall it was a great concept and was executed wonderfully. I can't what to read more from Anna Bogutskaya.

This is a fascinating read about how women are treated and perceived in movies and television. Really informative with great background information about the films, shows, and books in which these women appear. Highly recommend.
