This one was iffy for me in the beginning but all came together spectacularly in the end. The story centers on Adira, who is living a pretty great life in Tampa running a successful company and married to a perfect man named Gabriel. Eventually she finds out that he is cheating on her with 2 different women and things start to spiral out of control. There are also chapters from Adira’s childhood that give the reader insight into her current state of mind.

The first half of the book dragged a bit as Adira very pathetically kept begging Gabriel to love her best while also following around this other girlfriend. I found myself skimming at some points. As the book continues, it becomes apparent that there is a lot more going on here than it looks like on the surface. The last part of the book contained a couple great twists and put much of the earlier things that happened into a different light.

The twist was great and I really enjoyed it, though I was left with some lingering questions about some of what happened previously that I felt weren’t really explained. I also could have some without the constant designer name dropping throughout the book; I’m just not interested in that and already understood that she had lots of money so didn’t need to keep hearing it.

Overall, the early part of the book felt like a bit of a slog but I really enjoyed the way it all came together and I love being surprised. I think those that enjoy psychological thrillers will like this one and encourage you to keep reading of you’re not into the first part of the book. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What the what??? It’s really hard to review this book because the reveal is so shocking that I had to stop and think back over the story. Parts that had confused me now made perfect sense. I’d have to say this book’s twists - I really didn’t see coming. I even thought about half way through that it was just another mistress domestic suspense….well, it’s anything but! Just read it, as I can’t say anything else!!!

Wow. I could not have seen that ending coming from a mile a way! This was dark and it does warn you to check TW before you read so make sure you do that. But this will be an excellent Summer read!

The Other Mistress centres around Adira, who discovers her husband is cheating on her with not one, but two, women. Adira confronts one, who becomes her ally after offering her the perfect plan to split her husband and the other mistress up for good.

The blurb intrigued me from the start - who doesn't love a vengeful wife taking no prisoners? However, the book didn't follow the expected formula.

Described as a twisted tale of seduction, betrayal and obsession, I was expecting a little more grit. This is not to say that I didn't enjoy the ride or the story as it stands though, simply that it wasn't what the blurb had me envisioning. "What happens next might surprise you" feels more apt.

Positives: fast-paced, twisty, well-written, good reveals

Negatives: mental health inaccuracy, blurb set expectation unmatched by plot, grit lacking (but could be offset by a longer, slower plotline)

Would I read more from this author? Absolutely.

Oh. My. Wow. This book had me on pins and needles the whole time! I devoured it in one day. Adira is our FMC who finds out that her beloved husband Gabriel has not 1 but 2 mistresses! She wants nothing more than to win back his affections so she reaches out to mistress #1, Jocelyn, and the pair embark on a wild and crazy journey to get Adiras husband back. What a wild ride! I enjoyed this book immensely. I received an advanced copy of this book for offering an honest review.

If I’m being brutally honest, I was super frustrated with the wife initially, I kept thinking “stop being pathetic and leave his ass”. I don’t think I ever rolled my eyes so much as a character before to be honest. 😂

….and then THE TWIST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND LEFT ME WITH MY MOUTH HANGING OPEN! 😱😱😱

All I will say without giving any spoilers is I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT! 😱👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

An absolute must read as a thriller addict!

The Other Mistress is an original domestic thriller and frankly I'm not surprised! Shanora Williams is an amazing writer and can write both romances and thrillers that readers don't want to put down. I highly recommend this one. I know it'll be a big hit this summer!

Adira and her husband have been trying to conceive so it comes as a surprise when Adira stumbles on a text message from a woman named Jocelyn on her husband’s phone. Out of curiosity, she arranges to meet with Jocelyn.

When they meet the women later learn that Gabriel has another mistress. So they both come up with a plan to rekindle Gabriel’s love for Adira. This includes keeping tabs on him, and finding out if he’s seeing other women.

There were lots of twists and turns throughout and well-developed characters. It’s a great domestic thriller.

Thank you to Shanora Williams, NetGalley, and Kensington Books for the arc of this book.

3.75/5 stars! I wasn't sure how I felt about this book when I first read the premise. It sounded a little too involved for me. But the author did a really good job of keeping the reader engaged and spilling just enough secrets to make me think I had it all figured out; only to be shocked by the ending. I enjoyed the story, although I think Adira is a little ridiculous for wanting to try so hard to keep someone that didn't want her. Will be checking out more stories by this author.

I’m not going to lie – I spent the first 3 quarters or so of this book absolutely HATING the main character. I mean I just saw her as a doormat with zero self-respect. Luckily, I was interested (and horrified at the absolute MESS of her life) that I kept reading and CHA-CHING!!!! The author rewarded my diligence with a wow of a reveal that I did not see coming.

Seriously – not a clue.

Suddenly, I understood everything! It was still messy as could be and some of the characters were dirt, but so very entertaining!

The end draws on a bit too long. It’s not bad, it just needed to be tighter.

But I was glad I read this one and thoroughly enjoyed some of the surprises the author gave us. Would definitely read the author again!

Thank you Net Galley for an audio arc of The Other Mistress by Shanora Williams. This book grabbed me from the beginning. However, I was so mad at the MC 75% of the book! But it had plenty of twists and turns and kept me in the story.

It’s only January but I truly think I just read the best book of 2023! Wow. My jaw is literally on the floor. Suspenseful, luxurious, dark, twisted…. I could not put this book down. Phenomenal read, would give more than 5 stars if I could!

Too dark for my taste but certainly a page-turner. This book keeps the reader engaged as they try to understand what Adira is going through plus the trauma she experiences in her life. Certainly not a light mystery.

Oh my effffffing God! So I hated the main character for the first half of the book. Weak women make me angry. Then came all the twists and it completely blew my mind. I need a sequel right now!

I’ve jumped ahead to summer because I am so excited for it though it is bittersweet. This is our last summer before my daughter heads off to kindergarten, so we are filling it full of fun adventures. We have our annual beach trip planned and a trip to Washington DC – we’re really excited for all the museums. Okay onto this book…

Adira seems to have a perfect life, she’s a self-made millionaire and has a wonderfully supportive husband. The one thing Adira can’t quite get a handle on is, why her perfect, amazing husband, Gabriel, is cheating on her. As self-doubt begins to cloud Adira’s judgement, she seeks out his mistress. They later learn that he has another mistress! Was one not enough? Together Adira and her new friend hatch a plan to get Gabriel back to Adira’s side where he belongs…but things are not always as they seem and Adira seems to be getting lost in the process.

What a twisty suspenseful ride. This book made me question so many things! I had read one other book by this author and was glad that this one was on the same level of enjoyment. My mind was blown with the big reveal – it was shocking. This story was mainly told from Adira’s perspectives but also some others as well, which is always enjoyable and gives many perspectives.

Don’t miss this this shocking and amazing domestic thriller June 27th! It would be perfect poolside with a cocktail.

Thank you to @netgalley and the publisher, Kensington Books, @kensingtonbooks , as well as the author for this e-arc in exchange for this honest review.

Wait? What in the world?! t's so hard to review because everything will become spoilery, so I'm trying to be vague. Up until 80 percent of the book I never had a clue! I believed it all but Shanora fooled me. What a brilliant and wicked tale she spun. Looking back there were clues and hints dropped throughout but it doesn't dawn on you until the shoe drops. I will say it again, Shanora is rocking this psych thriller genre. Adira had a very traumatic upbringing but it doesn't justify what transpired in the book. Gabriel kinda deserved what he got. How can you use someone and be okay with living your life and dreams with someone else is beyond me. This book literally had me torn but it was oh so good!
