I couldn't finish this book. I was really grossed out by this book. I guess I should have known when it was written by Rob Zombie that it would be gruesome but I guess I wasn't really expecting it to be so descriptive. I am hit or miss with horror. I like horror that leaves a little more to the imagination. This book is very detailed and leaves nothing to the imagination. It's gross for the sake of being gross.

*NOTE: This is my husband, Seth's, review as he is helping me with my massive review pile*
Warning, this book contains content most people will find disgusting. Some of the things that are included in the book are the forceful vivisection of a woman so that a coven of witches can sacrifice her unborn child to the devil, said unborn child being skinned alive after having been forcefully removed from mother, spikes being driven into eyes, and various other things. Most of these things occur within the first few chapters. Then there is more. And more.

I admit, I read the whole book simply because I wanted to see if Rob Zombie could write as well as he could direct. All I got from the book though was disappointment after disappointment. It was just one shock scene after another, after another, after another. There was very little in the way of actual story or character development for anyone in the story. If you want a mindless slasher, do yourself a favor and rent a decent 80’s movie. I can about guarantee it would be loads better than this book.

Not a very good book. It was hyped with a huge campaign, but ultimately I feel like this was just released as a way to capitalize on the film version.
