Firstly, I must start by saying that this is a delightful blend of cosy mystery and picturesque seaside setting where I soon became absorbed in a refreshing escape into a world of murder, secrets, and unexpected twists. As I was reading the book, I found the characters to have a certain quirkiness which added to the enjoyment.

This was an easy read, the story moved at a steady pace with sufficient clues and red herrings to create the necessary suspense and anticipation that I require from any mystery.. At times, I did feel that some elements of the plot were slightly predictable, but I stayed engaged until the final pages.

One of the book's strongest assets is its charm which captures the essence of a cosy mystery. It wasn’t difficult for me to imagine the idyllic coastal setting and the quirky characters that made this an enjoyable read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A nice installment in he Nosey Parker series. Not amazing writing, but fun, funny and light hearted. This is really a series but realistically I think most of the books (including this one) could be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty.

Fans of cozy mysteries will enjoy this!

Another fun book in this series. It’s always fun watching Jodie and Nathan work together, and I like watching their personal lives progress just as much as the mysteries.

Fiona Leitch delivers another winner: an entertaining and solid mystery featuring Nosey Parker and the cast of quirky characters.
Solid mystery, entertaining story

A pleasant enough crime book to read although its not exactly one that you are on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. In saying that though, the storyline is enjoyable as it comes together and the characters are nice enough too.

A Cornish Seaside Murder by Fiona Leitch takes us back to Jodie Parker, who at the request of her daughter, left her position as a copper. She had been small then and was worried her mother would not come home one day after hearing all the bad things that happened in London. Jodie loved her work but she loved her daughter more and so took an extended cooking course and now found herself in Penstowan running a catering business. She had just accepted a position as an on-call member of the police unit there, working only when needed, as now when there had been a murder. It was quite odd working under DCI Nathan Winters as they lived together now and she was not allowed to call him, “Babe,” at work. It was nice to be in on his cases officially rather than nosing her way in as she had in the past. It was Merrymaid Week, a celebration of a mermaid saving local sailors, and Jodie had gotten herself roped into being one of the mermaids, but that is another story. The murder victim was a local man who had been drowned in a water trough near the church. The police suspected smuggling or a drug deal gone wrong.

Jodie is a good character with a sense of humor and penchant for doing the right thing. She and Nathan had hit it off after one of his/her earlier cases and we now engaged. Her mother lives with them although they hare having a mother-in-law cottage built on the grounds. It is a compact town full of people who know and like Jodie and Nathan. It was where she had grown up and to where she returned to start her second career. The mystery is a good one, involving several casualties, only one ending in death. It was a well-written plot that will keep the reader involved until the very end. The characters are good, as well, down to and including Jodie’s daughter, Daisy, who is now a teen and creative and responsive to the world around her and full of surprises. It was an enjoyable read, and good to catch up with these folks.

Another enjoyable book in the Nosey Parker cosy mystery series set in Cornwall. This one is a little different as Jodie is back working for the police as an auxiliary detective blurring the lines between her personal and professional relationships with DCI Withers and making her home life challenging and guilt-inducing. The Cornish setting is authentic and has a cast of believable characters. The murder mystery has many twists and contemporary relevance, and I like the inclusion of a Cornish legend to add to the mystery. This is an easy-to-read, well-thought-out mystery with many humorous moments to offset the crimes.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

(3.75/5 stars) This is the third Nosey Parker book I've read (the other two being A Cornish Christmas Murder and A Cornish Recipe for Murder), and while I didn't like this one quite as much as the other two (perhaps because Christmas and GBBO are so me-coded) I still enjoy a good cozy mystery. I appreciated the twists and turns, the humor, and the general coziness of a good British mystery. Definitely recommend for those who enjoy the genre.

A Cornish Seaside Murder is the 6th-installment of the Nosey Parker Mystery series by Fiona Leitch. This is the 4th-book in this series that I have read and I have been enjoying my time with these mysteries so much. These books follow Jodie Parker, who resigned from the Metropolitan Police in London after a close call and returned to her native village of Penstowan in Cornwall with her teen daughter, Daisy, and their Pomeranian, Germaine.

Jodie created her own catering company and it is taking off. With the help of Daisy, her Mom and other friends, she's created quite the little team. Recently though, after assisting her beau, DCI Nathan Withers, on a couple of cases, Jodie has been brought onto the Penstowan Police force as a DS. That is the capacity she is working in throughout this mystery.

It's tough, trying to juggle the catering with the DS position, as well as being a single Mom. We see Jodie grapple a bit with finding balance in this story.

The mystery involves the local fishing community and sees one man dead, as well as a college-aged man beaten to the point of being in a coma. It appears that the beaten man was actually tortured, like someone was trying to get information out of him. What is the connection between these two men and what led them to this outcome?

All this excitement is happening amidst the annual Mermaid Festival, so the town is packed. Jodie and Nathan need to solve this one quick before it has the chance to escalate, possibly harming innocent observers.

As always, I had so much fun with this. I love the cast of characters Leitch has created in the charming village of Penstowan. Additionally, I've enjoyed watching Jodie try to navigate her new life back home. There's been some adjustments, but she has a lot of support and I'm so happy with the progress her business and relationships have made.

I will say, I found this one to be a bit more serious in tone than previous installments. I think just because of the nature of the crimes involved. It didn't have quite the same level of silliness that I enjoyed before, but I still had fun with it. I am curious to see if there are going to be more books in the series. I certainly hope so. The ending of this, it's hard to tell. It could go either way. This could be the end, but fingers crossed Leitch has more in store for us. I'd be so excited to get my hands on a book #7!!

Thank you so much to the publisher, One More Chapter, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I would absolutely recommend this series to any Cozy Mystery Lover!

Classic cosy crime. In this addition to the series Jodie Parker goes from taking part in the local Merrymaid festival dressed as a dodgy mermaid to finding a dead body. Suddenly there are people being tortured, rumours of an ancient maritime curse but is drug smuggling a more plausible motive for murder?
If you like your crime set in a seaside community with nothing really nasty then this series is for you. It's a nice read and a good series.

In this series, former Met police officer Jodie has moved to Cornwall and has set up a catering business. This time round, she has found herself back working part time for the local force, and alongside boyfriend Nathan, they tackle a mysterious murder - can it really be related to a old tale of mermaids?

I like the cosy mystery style of the series, where each book works as a standalone. I do think it is definitely worth reading previous ones though! A fun group o characters, I'm enjoying watching relationships develop across the series.

It's Jodie's first book back on the force and she's already got another murder to solve. At least it gets her out of being a mermaid...
It's Merrymaid Week in Penstowan and the story goes that the ugly mermaid turns into a beautiful one as she runs through town with the children chasing her. While hypothetically a lot of fun, Jodie is set up to be the ugly mermaid but never completes her run; she's found a dead body, that of a local fisherman. It seems like someone may be trying to tie it into the legend because the statue of a mermaid usually stored in a church seems to be missing as well.
As usual, Jodie eventually solves the mystery though there is a bit of a twist at the end of the story.

This is the latest in a series of books about ex Met cop Jodie who relocates to Cornwall to run a catering business but keeps getting involved in murders and so is co-opted into the local force to work alongside her policeman boyfriend. These are a good read and I will be looking forward to the next one.

I only realised after I started this that I'd read an earlier book in the series. I think this had got even better - i think I'm going to have to go back and read the books in between. Jodie Parker is now am uxiliary DS, not just a sleuth who happens to be an ex-cop. But how will this work when she finds herself on a case with her partner and now boss, DI Nathan Withers? Jodie does struggle with boundaries but once again her local knowledge comes through. Great characters, with Jodie's formidable mum and equally formidable teenage daughter - not to mention the feisty fluffball dog. Good story too, I really enjoyed this read. #netgalley #ACornishSeasideMurder

A Cornish Seaside Murder is an excellent cosy mystery with a delightful amount of humour, a sprinkling of romance and an engaging plot. I've only read two books from the series but I already feel as though I've come home when I open these books. While there are tiny spoilers in the relationship between Jodie and Nathan, the author does a great job of world-building enough so that you can follow the story without giving too much away from previous books.

Jodie and her family are great characters, down-to-earth and so very relatable. I want the odd chapter from Nathan's pov as I still don't feel I know him, which means he comes across as very pleasant but also quite bland. This isn't enough to spoil the story and may result from my not having read the earlier books in the series.

If you enjoy the lighter side of mystery/suspense then I very much recommend this series.

A Cornish Seaside.Murder by Fiona Grace

As the tide goes out, secrets are revealed.

This was an enjoyable book. Just being art the seaside added a lot. Jodie Parker was a great main character. She had to juggle being with the police and running a bookstore at the same time. Loved the characters. Then, throw in. The legend of the mermaid

EXCERPT: 'I know it probably doesn't look good if you look at the evidence. But when Mel was murdered on my wedding day, and Cheryl disappeared, all the "evidence" pointed to me, didn't it? But you knew me. You knew I wouldn't hurt a fly, let alone someone I loved. Without you, I would have been banged up for murder. That's why you helping Nathan on all the other cases worked. You knew the people involved, or at least you knew that so-called "proof" doesn't always prove anything. Now, you're ready to condemn someone who, deep down, you know wouldn't be involved in anything bad enough to warrant a beating, because you're thinking like a police officer again. We don't need that. We've got Nathan for that. We need you to think like Jodie again.'

ABOUT 'A CORNISH SEASIDE MURDER': Former Met police officer Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker is working a trial period as an auxiliary Detective Sergeant with the Penstowan police force. But living and working alongside DCI Nathan Withers – while still trying to grow her catering company – brings its own challenges, especially when Jodie’s attention is quickly taken up by the suspicious drowning of a local fisherman. While tourists and locals alike are falling under the spell of the annual mermaid festival with its captivating legends of Sirens luring fishermen to their deaths, Jodie and Nathan fear they may have found themselves in the middle of a very real – and very dangerous – turf war. As the casualties start to stack up, they must face the likelihood that something sinister has been going on under their noses for some time…

MY THOUGHTS: I didn't enjoy A Cornish Seaside Murder as much as I have others in the series, and the reason is right there in the excerpt. All the things I loved about Jodie's previous investigations went out the window once Jodie was 'back in uniform'. I didn't enjoy Jodie and Nathan working together at all.

I'm glad that the author highlighted the stress and time issues involved in trying to cope with two jobs, but I don't understand why Jodie hadn't thought about these issues before she accepted the job. It's not like you can just drop out of a murder investigation for a few days to go cater a wedding! Or vice-versa.

I didn't like the emphasis on the drug trafficking aspect of the story. Surely it was obvious (it was to me, and I am no sleuth) that there was another perfectly plausible explanation.

Despite these gripes, I still enjoyed this cosy mystery. I like the characters, but felt that Jodie's mother was more of a figure of fun in this book, which I didn't particularly enjoy. And, for once, I don't think Jodie was particularly nosey!

Although there is a separate mystery in each book, I don't really recommend that this be read as a stand-alone. It's an enjoyable series so my recommendation is that you read it from the beginning.

And a definite bonus: the recipe at the end of the book, and all the other dishes described within. If you enjoy cooking, don't miss this!

THE AUTHOR: Fiona Leitch is a writer with a chequered past. She’s written for football and motoring magazines, DJ’ed at illegal raves and is a stalwart of the low budget TV commercial, even appearing as the Australasian face of a cleaning product called 'Sod Off'. After living in London and Cornwall she's finally settled in sunny New Zealand, where she enjoys scaring her cats by trying out dialogue on them. She spends her days dreaming of retiring to a crumbling Venetian palazzo, walking on the windswept beaches of West Auckland, and writing funny, flawed but awesome female characters.

Am rather partial to the West Country and decided to try something a little different from my usual police fare. This was the first title by Fiona Leitch that I have read and am sure that it will appeal to many, just not me. I sadly found it rather lightweight.

As I am lucky enough to live in Cornwall, I am always drawn to books based there. As I am a huge fan of cozy mysteries, reading this was a no-brainer!

This is book 6 in the Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker series. I have read book 5 which worked perfectly well as a standalone book, as will this one.

The location is perfect (obviously!), the characters are well written and Jodie and Nathan are particularly likeable, (provided you don’t take the fact that this is a police investigation too seriously!).

Lots of twists and turns make this a very enjoyable cozy mystery, and I look forward to the next instalment of the Nosey Parker series. 4*
