I've read most of Maggie Shayne's paranormal titles, however this is the first I've read in the Fatal series. Fatal Phantasm can be read as a standalone, however I felt there was some context that I missed out on having not read the first 3 in this series. Although it's listed as a paranormal romance, the book focuses more on the ghosthunting storyline, and the romances between Jack/Kiley and Maya/Johnny are more peripheral. A good read nonetheless - I'll be picking up the first 3 books to get caught up on this group of characters.

I haven't read a book by Maggie Shayne for ages and this one was a pleasant surprise and made me buy the rest of the series.
A compelling, complex and entertaining paranormal romance that kept me hooked and I thoroughly enjoyed.
The world building is fascinating and I liked the characters.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I was a little reluctant to pick this up since I haven’t read the books before this fourth book, but I did it anyway. I am so glad I did! I wasn’t lost at all as the author did a great job of making sure everything made sense even the events that happened before this book. I had read this author years ago and enjoyed the ones I’d read, so I really shouldn’t have been surprised. Anyway, this book is an interesting look into the lives of Jack, Kiley, Johnny, Maya, Joe, and Breia, and the business they run mostly together. This was interesting, a little spooky, and a lot fun. I saw this series described as an adult Scooby-like series, and it really is with more to it that the show. I can’t wait to read more of this well-written enchanting mystery series. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

The gangs all invited to a secluded island by Jack’s ex wife to find why the ghost of her current husband has not passed over.
The offer of money overrides all Kiley’s common sense. They will all come to regret being trapped on an island with no boat no phone or internet but magic abounds. This is a cozy mystery at its best and the story really sales along. Book 4 in the series but can be read as a stand alone.
Thank you NetGalley and (publisher, Oliver Heber Books) for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
