The Mistress Next Door is a thriller that kept me hooked from the start. It kept me guessing and the twist at the end was not at all what I was expecting. The characters are relatable and so are the scenarios they're put in. All around a really great read!

I was excited to read this domestic thriller but it was so slow. Too slow and I found myself skimming. The ending didn't really redeem it either as some how after all the slow burning it was rushed.

Wow, wow, wow! This book was a page turner from the first page to the last. I was completely riveted by all of the twists and turns throughout the story. I will definitely read it again to see if there were any clues I might have missed as to who was behind the big mystery. It has been a long time since a book had me on the edge of my seat like this one did.

Leslie Sanderson has a new avid fan. I will be looking forward to anything upcoming and adding all past books to my reading list.

The bright blue door on the cover most deff got my attention but the story kept me in. A thriller is what I needed.

The Mistress Next Door is an evenly-paced domestic thriller that got my attention from the start. I enjoy stories about communities with secrets, and the world of Prospect Close has many secrets beneath the surface. This book kept me guessing because there are many plausible characters. Many of the side characters have suspicious things happening to them. I will check out other books by this author. Thanks for the advance review copy.

It honestly was pretty slow. I kept with it to see what happened at the end, but it wasn’t worth it. The writing was chaotic and all over the place and the story like was just kind of boring for most of it.

My first Lesley Sanderson novel and it most certinaly will not be my last! A page turner from start to finish which keeps the reader guessing right until the end. Somebody living in the idyllic close knit community knows a secret and readers are left wondering just how far they will go and what she can do to stop them. I loved the way the author introduced each character. I was very invested in the lives of Harriet and Oliver and loved as secrets about their marriage unfolded throughout the story.
Once I started this book I could not put it down, plenty of shocking twists and very engaging characters.

Wow, this book was full of crazy twists and turns and I loved that I wasn’t able to guess the ending! Very much enjoyed.

3 stars. This was a bit disappointing for me. The synopsis was really appealing, but I felt the book fell flat. The ending was way too rushed. It would have been better if the ending was fleshed out. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

The Mistress Next Door is one of the most gripping and impressive thrillers I have been reading lately. The writing style is easy to follow and it will keep you guessing who is the mistress.

What a page-turning thriller!

The thriller starts well with an Anonymous character confronting about her mistress position and the creepiest part is the plan of this mistress to penetrate through the wife's friend circle. Just imagine the mistress wants to befriend with the wife?

I am just hooked by this chapter...!

Prospect Close is a expensive living community, yet it is smaller and neighbours are close to each other. Lots of gossips. Harriet and Oliver have 3 young toddlers, Twins Tess & Tilly and a 6-month old Lucy. One day, Tilly was lost and Harriet received a note in her handbag...ARE YOU SCARED?

At the same time Oliver is on a business trip in France. His wife Harriet reckons there is something wrong in the relationship. Oliver is having an affair. She starts to dig around to find concrete proof. Will she find it?

When she has received more and more threatening notes, hearing the gossips from the neighbours saying "Everyone knows he has a mistress", she is close to a breakdown. Who is the mistress? So close yet so far?

Through the fast-paced chapters, it is easy to immerse into the story and put yourself into Harriet's shoes. The frustrating marital relationship, the scariness of putting the kids in danger and the tremendous secret of your past you want to hide...these all have made a good thriller!

This was really entertaining! The writing did feel a bit weird/off at times but other than that, this was a very enjoyable and quick read that keeps you guessing until the very end!

On the surface, Harriet has it all: a handsome, successful husband, three beautiful daughters, and a home in a prosperous and friendly community. But when one of her daughters goes missing at the local park, Harriet's life begins a slow unravelling. Her nanny has left under mysterious circumstances, her errant husband claims to be working long hours but comes home smelling of perfume with lipstick on his shirt collars, and someone is leaving notes that seem to imply they know about Harriet's past....

I have enjoyed the previous books I've read by this author, but this one was such a slow burn, and didn't feel at all the same writing style as the other novels I've read. The dialogue was clunky, the characters barely realised stereotypes, and the writing very basic at times (how "momentous moment" was allowed to slip through the net, I just don't know).

Oliver is useless from the beginning, and I really hate when the central character just becomes a doormat for the husband, particularly when we can't fathom why. If he was otherwise charming, or a good father, or attentive, that would be one thing, but Oliver is barely there, and even when he is, he manages about three sentences before sloping off to bed. The fact that Harriet doesn't challenge him on the evidence of his infidelities didn't strike me as credible either - it's not the first time he's been unfaithful, he barely even mentions the fact that their daughter was taken from the park by a stranger while he was swanning about in Paris (having failed to tell his wife that he was staying after the conference to do some sightseeing), and he is so dismissive of Harriet and so useless as both a partner and parent that I wanted to bang both of their heads together: him for being a selfish pig, and Harriet for enabling his behaviour. I also didn't buy that after she heard two of her friends discussing who her husband was supposedly having an affair with, SHE DIDN'T CANCEL THE BOOK CLUB TO WHICH THE SUPPOSED MISTRESS WAS INVITED and instead went off to shop for cheese and biscuits. I couldn't identify or empathise with any of the characters in this book, but especially not Harriet, who came across as a dubious, gullible idiot. Considering her business designing and making children's clothes had supposedly just blown up as well, to the point where she was considering opening up a shop, we only saw her sit down to work once, and for about five minutes - she spent all her time at coffee mornings, the park or gossiping with the other yummy mummies. I felt like she wasn't a developed character at all, and as the central protagonist it was a real struggle for me to like or relate to her in any way.

I was really looking forward to this one but was disappointed all the way through, and only persisted as it was an advance copy for which I'd pledged to leave a review. I was hoping it would improve as it went along but it only devolved further, ending with a confession and a ludicrous revenge plot which all got wrapped in the space of about three paragraphs.

The Mistress Next Door is the first book by Lesley Sanderson that I've read. I found the novel listed on NetGalley as a top download, so I thought I'd give the thriller a try. It worked out quite well! Set on a cul de sac filled with several families and a couple of single women, the main plot revolves around a dangerous woman who's deemed herself The Mistress and is intent on breaking up a marriage for some unknown past sin that the wife harbors. The POV switches from the mistress (10% of the time) to Harriet the wife (90%) of the time. Harriet's daughter is briefly kidnapped then returned, and she begins receiving notes that indicate the kidnapper (if it's the same person) knows what she did in the past. Harriet then shares a few chapters about incident when she was a teenager involving a young child. The stories begin to collide, including Harriet's cheating husband... but what readers don't yet know is whether Harriet's husband is the only cheater on the block. Great dialog, plot unraveling, and scene setting. I enjoyed the overall story but did feel like there was a lot of focus on nannies and people friendly when they disliked one another. Hard to tell if I'm just the kind of person that doesn't force myself to be around people I dislike or this is a common thing in small suburban blocks! All in all, enjoyed the book and will definitely read another by the author.

This was a excellent page turner, it was full of twists and turns throughout. I couldn’t put it down, I devoured it in a day. The characters were intriguing, the story itself was great and the style of writing was perfect. I have always loved the books by this author so I can’t wait for the next book to come out. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys this genre.

This year started out awful.

It’s cold, I want to be on a beach.

I miss fresh air.

But, there is one thing I can not complain about and it’s the amazing opportunities I have had to read some knock it out of the park kind of books as an early reader.

The Mistress Next Door, is definitely one of them.

The title got me. I have no business requesting any books until I read what I have but come on! We all know how easy it is to say “just one more” after reading an incredible synopsis.

This was my situation.

I couldn’t keep scrolling, the fear of missing out was consuming me .

After a dramatic self battle with myself, I hit request and didn’t look back ….

The Mistress Next Door is one of the books that just swoops on in and takes over all of your senses. I was completely lost in this book from the first page.

This book kept me entertained and guessing. It’s about Harriet who is trying to hide something from her last. She is married and has 3 kids and her past is coming back up.
She is suspicious of everyone and she knows her husband is hiding something. It’s a few different stories going on that combine together at the end. It was a fun read that had some good twists.

WOW!

The Mistress Next Door by Lesley Sanderson was a page turner! I could not get through this story fast enough to try to find out what was going to happen! This was such a great mystery/thriller and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great read!

Harriet, the main character, receives threatening notes and text messages, and her daughter even goes missing temporarily. Her husband, Oliver, works long hours and often travels for work, and has a history of being unfaithful. The title gives away the premise of the book, but I will say I was guessing until the very end who was the mistress next door.

I really loved how this book kept me so engaged and I could not put it down. My only critique is that I was slightly confused by a few chapters which were flashbacks to 2006. Towards the end, it all clicked. However, I did find myself reading those few short chapters and not connected the dots at first.

I highly recommend this book be added to your TBR shelf!
