Helen and George have just relocated from London to Cornwall. Their house is a fixer upper and Helen seems uneasy about the job they need to do.

Nobody in the village is friendly towards them and as Helen looks into the history of the house, she finds that the previous owner was known as a witch. But is that all?

George is also investigating the house, hoping to write a best selling book. So many unanswered questions and mysteries around this house.

I enjoyed this more than I initially thought I would. I had figured out the initial bug reveals very quickly into the story. However the last few twists came out of nowhere and the finale was fab.

A great read.

Claire McGowan is one of those writers that you know won’t disappoint you when you pick up her book. This is no exception.

While the premise of the story might be far fetched and the story moves at different speeds, it’s a satisfying read and I completed it in a day

She's back!! I didn't care much for McGowan's last book, Are You Awake, but I am still a huge fan of her writing and will continue to read all of her novels. I am happy to say that Let Me In was a success! The creepy vibes and intriguing plot of murder and witchcraft had me hooked immediately and the secrets and surprises just kept coming!! I really enjoyed it!

I have to admit, I was a little worried at first when I saw that this book only had 5 chapters and chapter 1 was almost two hours long. Ugh! I loathe long chapters! And with each chapter belonging to one person's story, I was skeptical at this being an enjoyable read. If you are like me and hate long chapters, don't let that deter you from reading this! I was wrong! There were many stopping points within each chapter and each chapter ended on a cliffhanger. The storyline flowed smoothly and came together in the utmost perfect way. I definitely recommend this book!!!

I loved this book. I read it in one sitting, and found it very entertaining. It was just spooky enough, had very few clichés, and was super well-written.


I would recommend this to anyone who likes stories of witches, spells and murder. It combines it all.

This was a fabulous read that had me hooked from the first page and that I read in one sitting. It is hard to describe the genre of this book as a mixture of suspense and witchcraft with lots of secrets and lies thrown in to keep the reader on their toes. The story is told from each of the characters view points.

This would make a fabulous tv drama as the atmospheric creepiness of the setting would come to life even more.

This was a tense and thrilling read which I would highly recommend.

This is a hard book for me to rate, as overall I did enjoy it, but there were so many things I didn't like!

I didn't enjoy the format - there were only five chapters and for me this slowed the pace and made the book feel too long. I also stumbled over the plot pretty quickly as I could just not accept the concept of a woman willing to spend her life savings on a house she hasn't even seen pictures of. My final quibble is that some of the secrets kept from the reader felt unnecessary - there is no reason I can think of why we couldn't have found out about why Helen didn't want to be a doctor anymore in the beginning?

Some things I did enjoy: Janna's story was really interesting and I liked the healing/witchcraft bits. The characters were all well written and the house setting was atmospheric (although being from Penzance myself I couldn't quite work out where the fictional village was supposed to be).

I have no idea if I would recommend the book or not. I think the story had a lot of potential but I wasn't crazy about parts of the execution.

I binge read this brilliant thriller from Claire McGowan in less than a day. Twists and turns aplenty - some more surprising than others,
Helen accepts her husband’s idea to escape the rat race in London and they buy a derelict house in Cornwall. Once there, they are shunned by the local community and unexpected, disastrous things begin to happen with the house. Helen wants to leave - George has reasons to stay - reasons that Helen isn’t aware of.
Great story that unfolds through a multi perspective narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

I really enjoyed this new novel by author Claire McGowan. In the past I have had mixed feeling when reading her books but this one ticked the boxes for me.

Helen and George move into what they hoped would be their dream house in Cornwall. The house required a lot of work but they were both determined to make it into their forever home leaving behind their problems behind for good. But it’s not long before Helen starts getting a bad feeling about the house and she also thinks she has seen the house before. Once the renovations start her uneasiness just intensifies which is not helped by the discovery of sinister dolls hidden in the walls. Helen starts to investigate the history of the house and discovers that it was thought the previous owner of the house was a witch who was sentenced to thirty years for a brutal murder.

Further disturbing events follow and when a horrific accident almost ends in tragedy Helen worries that the house’s secrets are to blame. Helen becomes aware that George is also lying to her and their dark past is coming back to haunt them both. They are both in danger and it is difficult to know who they can trust including each other.

An exciting page turner.

This was a well written thriller with a little eeriness added to it with the isolated setting, witchcraft, murder and secrets. The husband and wife had their good qualities but something about them made me kind of dislike them too. The best character in this and by far the most likeable was Janna, the convicted killer of three murders decades ago. This keeps you on your feet and we'll invested in the story. I would of liked a little more from the epilogue but otherwise a great read. Four Stars.

A really great read. I did find the main characters a little annoying, but I was able to overlook that aspect.

Such a refreshing spooky thriller full of twists from the off set. Never once throughout the story did I suspect the ending to be as mind blowing as it was

The book disappoints. Nothing happened for nearly 20% of the book (Kindle copy). So slow pace. The characters are ‘flat’ and the plot is not interesting.

This book was just ok for me. I was really into it for a good chunk and then it took a turn where I lost interest. It was not what I was expecting and I’m disappointed.

Helen and George move to a cozy home in Cornwall. It was supposed to be a dream come true. Instead it turned out to be their worst nightmare. Helen had a bad feeling about the home from the moment she got there. Her anxiety increases as the renovations begin when the contractors find a doll with human hair buried in the walls. Helen looks up the home’s history and discovers that the previous owner was rumored to be a witch and was put in prison for murdering three people. Things pick up from there as one bad thing happens after another and she and George realize they are in danger. The secrets that were buried long ago come to light and things will never be the same.

This was a good book. I’ll probably read it again. The setting was great I enjoy books set in cozy rundown cottages in England. I enjoyed the creepy, voodoo vibes of this book. Overall it was a good read.

Let Me In by Claire McGowan is the story of couple George and Helen who move from London to Cornwall to realise their dream of owning their own home and escape from problems that become clear as the story unfolds. The house proves to be more of a "faller down" than a "fixer up" and seems eerily familiar to Helen and barely worth what George paid for it......or says he did.
From the start nothing goes right for the couple and their welcome to Cornwall is cowboy builders, evidence of witchcraft hidden about their home and hostile locals. Along with discovering that the house previously belonged to an alleged witch who had murdered a man and 2 children and that both of them are hiding long-held dark secrets from each other it might be said that George and Helen's new start was not quite what they had in mind.

This book had me lost for words....and not in a good way. While the plot stretched credulity to the absolute limit there are also several contradictions and glaring inaccuracies littered throughout the book,not least about Cornwall where most of it is set. From what seemed a promising beginning with a couple of entertaining characters it very soon started to go downhill with my brow first furrowing for the first ,but far from the last time, before the couple had even reached Cornwall and there are parts that are outright ludicrous..

I liked this book a lot, like all the author's other books, it was hard to put down.
Helen and George leave London for Cornwall, inhabiting an old fixer-upper George bought with their savings. Helen is immediately uncomfortable with the house, even more so when the contractors find a creepy doll in a wall and she thinks someone is watching them.
The story is told from several characters' pov and I didn't take to the couple at first. Why were they both keeping secrets from each other? However, as the story was unveiled, I understood them more.
Healing and witchcraft, murders from 36 years ago and today, the grooming of children and shocking answers to several of the mysteries from the past make for a gripping read that I definitely recommend!

Claire McGowan is one of my favourite authors and this new book didn’t disappoint.
It started off slowly but quickly built up to an amazing page turner.
It’s an unique, atmospheric and intriguing read that I loved. The ending was fabulous.
It’s a true 5 star read and one that I’d recommend to anyone.

Her writing is perfect for psychological thrillers, as she can totally surprise her reader with each and every book!
This was a well written story and the plot moved along at a good pace for the storyline.
I was intrigued, hooked and entertained.
McGowan does such an incredible job of weaving a mystery and telling a story.
She does a great job in drawing the reader in and making you feel a part of the story, with believable characters and a setting that you can just picture.
