My take away from this book is all about your gut feeling and the “Groove” your in. How to be true to yourself, and others. How to be centered and happier by recognizing what’s going on in your life. How to Break free.

There are sections that break apart the grooves of inadequacy, obligation, scarcity, unworthiness…Each section contains examples of these life grooves you may be inhabiting and not even know it.

Do you feel inadequate so you focus on others mistakes? Do you feel obligated because you’re worried you’ll let people down? Are you in the Scarcity Obligation because you fear someone’s love will run out, or your awesome job will go away, or a friendship will dissolve? There’s so many arenas here.

This book clearly lays out examples of each groove and breaks down behaviors those grooves creates (blaming, micromanaging, passive aggressive, avoidance etc…). It then further sections out questions to ask yourself, how it effects relationships (neatly broken down into work/ parent to young child/ parent to older child/ family/ spouse/ community sections), how to recognize it and what you can do to correct it.

For me, I found some application of this material helpful. I also found it helpful in understanding my mother (she’s an Obligation Groove gal). That insight was welcomed and I’m glad I have that so I can help my mom come out of it.

All in all, if you’re stuck in life, stuck in a pattern, unhappy with behaviors or choices you make, this book might give you insight and help you get back on track.
