A great book for all lovers of travel and literature, and for those who, like me, always want to find out about the writers who come from a particular place. A must-read for all fans of literary history. An engaging and informative guide.

"New Orleans: A Cultural and Literary History" by T. R. Johnson is an engaging guide that provides readers with a comprehensive understanding of the city's rich history and cultural heritage. It focuses on the city's literary greats, such as Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner, and also its attention to the multicultural influences that have shaped New Orleans. Overall, it is an excellent guide that will deepen your appreciation of this fascinating city. It's a little in depth for the average tourist, but for the ones it attracts it will surely please. I just reviewed New Orleans by T. R. Johnson. #NewOrleans #NetGalley

I'm a big fan of the city of New Orleans, so I was eager to read New Orleans by T.R. Johnson. It didn't disappoint. It is packed full of information about literature, music, and NOLA culture. The book is set up by city sections which worked well. It spans the centuries, too, in an organized, engaging style that doesn't seem like information overload. You'll want a device handy to learn more about some of the works or people. The Frank Ocean story especially gave me chills. Read this book if you have any interest in NO, literature, jazz, R&B, rap, or just the history of the southern US.

Absolutely loved this book! I’ve been to New Orleans so many times and I was just there last month for a work trip. I stayed at the Hotel Monteleone and even took a literary walking tour…. and still didn’t know, until now, that Truman Capote claimed to be born in this famed (and possibly haunted?) historic hotel.

Part travelogue, part scholarly journal, this darling gem is chock full of interesting anecdotes, chronicling some of the most revered writers of our times and their unique ties to the enigmatic Crescent City (with addresses!). T.R. Johnson is a brilliant and captivating storyteller and his colorful stories make me love the city even more! Once published, I plan to buy copies for my friends, set up a literary walking weekend and let this book be our trusted travel guide!
