Liddy thinks she's going to a REAL palace when her parents tell her about an upcoming trip to Dim Sum Palace, and she's pretty excited . . . until she has a strange dream that involves dumplings and a hungry Empress.

A cute tale that might make your stomach growl.

Dim Sum Palace is a very cute little picture book showing us a young girl, in her excitement for going to the Dim Sum Palace the next day, has vivid dreams that night of going to a real dim sum palace with an empress and delicious food. It's an uncomplicated story with a simple rhythm and it delivers lots of easy fun. The illustrations are cute too. It's worth the read for anyone looking for a cute, stress-free, fun food story.

A beautiful story of culture, tradition and family. This story will be perfect for classroom teachers to help explain the importance of the culture and traditions. A beautiful addition to home libraries as well.

I really loved the illustration style that is used in this book - it made the experience as a whole far more encompassing & enjoyable. The story is a good one & I would be inclined to check for future work from the other based on my experience with this book.

‘Dim Sum Palace’ with story and art by X. Fang is a picture book about a dream to a delicious place.

Tomorrow Liddy and her family are going to their favorite dim sum restaurant. Tonight Liddy is so excited that she dreams of a fantastic restaurant filled with dumplings, bao, and buns. Liddy goes on an eating binge. Liddy watches the busy cooks, and accidentally falls in the bowl full of dumpling filling. She gets rolled into a dumpling and rolled out to the Empress. Has Liddy’s dream of food become a nightmare?

This was a fun book full of funny pictures and delicious food. I think young readers will enjoy reading this.

Liddy is so excited to go to the Dim Sum Palace the next day that she dreams about food and meeting an empress.

The illustrations in this both impart a warm and cozy feeling while being interesting and colorful. The story blends the space between dream and reality which is an idea that would appeal to many children. It is filled with food references which for many children is exciting and enticing.

Dim Sum Palace by X. Fang was a cute picture book for kids about food, dreams, and Asian culture. Set in the tone of In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak, a little girl is really excited to eat the food at the Dim Sum Palace. Before she can go however, she falls asleep and dreams about what it will be like instead. This is a short, dreamlike book perfect for bedtime with lovely, bright illustrations.

I am a huge fan of books that celebrate cultures and I really enjoy food.. Dim Sum Palace is a wonderfully adorable book that brings us into Liddy's food driven dream. It left me wanting to be able to curl up on a warm Bun myself.

DIM SUM PALACE is an engaging story of a child who is excited to go to a restaurant with her family, but her imagination takes over.

The illustrations are charming and expressive. I can feel how hungry the child is! I love how things didn't go as expected.

This picture book will appeal to the young crowd. It's quite funny.

I recommend this book!

Happy (eating) reading!

This is an adorable book about a little girl who is so excited to be going to someplace new that she can barely sleep [or so she thinks] and finds herself taking a little trip [in her dreams]. Filled with fun illustrations and a lovely story about having to wait and the rewards that come from that, littles and adults alike will love this book and it will make them really HUNGRY by the end [which has a lovely little page of illustrations of food that you can find at a Dim Sum restaurant]!! Well done!!

Thank you to NetGalley, X. Fang, and Penguin Random House Canada/Tundra Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the opportunity to read this book and provide my honest review.

What a joy of a book!

From the very first page showcasing dim sum dishes to the story of Liddy at both the imaginary and real dim sum palace, the author has you wanting more with each page.

This book celebrates the beauty of dim sum culture, something that tugs at my heartstrings as a person who grew up with it. You'll swear you can smell the dishes coming by your table in their bamboo baskets.

Be warned; don't go into reading this book if you're hungry!

A little girl is so excited about her family's plans to visit the Dim Sum Palace tomorrow that her dreams are filled with fantastical visions of what it will be like. Giant chefs cook up bao and dumplings and soup for the giant Empress of Dim Sum Palace. When Liddy is baked into one of the dumplings and served up to the Empress, she almost becomes dinner herself. Fortunately, the Empress doesn't eat little girls, even when they're baked into dumplings. And even though the real Dim Sum Palace is entirely different than Liddy imagined when they go the next day, she thinks it's just as good.

The illustrations in this picture book were so luscious and definitely had my stomach rumbling. I loved how X. Fang brought the magic of visiting a new place and eating great food as a kid back to life. Everything is wonderfully larger than life.

Love love LOVE the illustrations and the story. concept. The text however was plain to the point of pedestrian and did little to evoke the magic of the illustrations. I wish I could give a better rating because the illustrations are really fantastic.

This was cute, but it could have had more to it. It was pretty simple, which would be good for younger kids.

Dim Sum Palace is such a magical and fun retelling. As described, this story very much feels like a love letter to the original "In the Night Kitchen" book. While it followed the same path and similar styled illustrations, it still made it feel more modern and clean. In many ways, I enjoyed this version more than even the original. This rendition just felt more detailed, fleshed out and personal. Liddy was such a sweet character to follow.

I received an electronic ARC from Penguin Random House Canada through NetGalley.
Highly detailed illustrations capture the joy surrounding this young girl's dreams. Her mom let her know they would be going to the Dim Sum Palace the next evening and her imagination took her to a restaurant making all sorts of treats which led to her meeting an empress. Readers take this journey with her and then can appreciate the reality of the dim sum restaurant. Terrific book for connections and/or to introduce this type of food.

It's such a cute and creative book! The little girl in the book has a dream that some chefs turn her into a donut at a restaurant that she and her family plan on going to the next day. I love the illustrations as much as I love the story.
