Whimsical story of a little girl with a big imagination who can't wait to dine with an empress at the Dim Sum Palace. Very reminiscent of the famous In The Night Kitchen, both in story and in style. I think the art could be a little more appetizing and appealing, but maybe that's personal taste. Overall, love the Cantonese culture and rep in this story!

The night before Liddy visits the Dim Sum Palace with her family she tries to imagine what will take place. "Will there be an empress?" As she drifts off into sleep she follows a wonderful smell into the kitchen of a gigantic palace where she climbs across the countertops and falls into some dumpling filling. The illustrations are full of charm and magic, as Liddy gets mixed into a whimsical adventure. This is an excellent picture book to share with young food-lovers, especially those who appreciate Asian cuisine.

My kids enjoyed this book and my son, with his love of particular foods, especially related to the character in her love for dumplings! Her dream of being a dumpling was so silly and my kids loved this. We'll be purchasing a hard copy for our bookshelf.

This book was really fun. Child is going on adventure tomorrow to the dim sum palace. They have never been and they dream at night of going to this palace and getting stuck in the food and becoming dinner. The real palace is nothing like their dreams but the food is even better.

5/5 stars!

This is just too cute!! I loved this storybook, Liddy being so excited about going for dim sum she dreams about it is definitely relatable for any person who loves food, no matter their age! I've already got some on preorder for our store, I can't wait to see it in print! :D

Dim Sum Palace by X Fang is an adorable story of a little girl who is going with her family to eat at the Dim Sum Palace restaurant. She has never been but things it might be a real palace.
Although she feels she is to excited to sleep she does and has a dream. I’m the dream she falls into a bowl of dim sum filling and is almost eaten by an Empress! It is a really cute story with great illustrations.
I was given Dim Sum Palace ARC by the publisher and NetGalley for my honest review.

Liddy is so excited to go to the Dim Sum Palace tomorrow that she dreams of going to an actual Dim Sum Palace with a real empress! The only problem is, Liddy gets too excited in the kitchen, ends up falling into the dumpling filling, and gets cooked into a dumpling meant for the empress. A cute book that introduces children to various dim sum dishes.

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

My daughter loves dim sum, so I hoped that this would be a cute one to read to her. Unfortunately, I don’t think that the part when the main character becomes dim sum will appeal to her, or most kids.

This is a cute but forgettable picture book about a young girl's dream about bao buns. I enjoyed reading it, but I wouldn't seek it out for my classroom or other children in my life.

Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books and NetGalley for the e-ARC to read and review. The illustrations and food theme initially captured my interest with this title, and those are definitely what sustained the story for me all the way through. DIM SUM PALACE By author illustrator X. FANG

Dim Sum Palace is a fantastical story of a girl whose obsession for dim sums and dumplings takes her on a magical adventure into a Dim Sum palace, where she ends up becoming a dumpling herself.

Liddy is going to go to Dim Sum palace with her family the next day. Her feverish excitement almost leads her into sleeplessness. And at bedtime, she is drawn into an aromatic whiff of dumplings, leading her all the way to Dim Sum palace and straight into the chef’s kitchen. Barely noticed by the busy chef, Liddy accidentally rolls into the filling and becomes a dumpling herself.

At the Dim Sum palace, the empress is hungry for dumplings. Will the empress get a bite of the most remarkable dumpling of all, the ‘Liddy dumpling’? Or will Liddy enjoy a feast of sumptuous dumplings, she had been craving for?

In the book Dim Sum palace, author illustrator, X. Fang has created an adorable character, Liddy who is also inquisitive about how the Dim Sum palace would look like. This inquisition leads her into an imaginative dream, where she conceives a beautiful picture of the palace with the garden and the empress. It is noteworthy to see the imaginative ideas that can be generated in a young child's mind. It is this imagination that gives way to creative thoughts and ideas.

The book Dim Sum palace delves into Liddy’s world, where Liddy is the perfect epitome of a food lover.  The book Dim Sum palace will help its readers engage in its bright precise illustrations along with the various depictions of dim sums, dumplings, bao’s, buns and more. The book represents Liddy’s love for her food and culture. It also portrays Liddy enjoying a hearty meal with her family.

The book Dim Sum palace is about loving your food, family and culture. Above all it’s a great read for all the food lovers and food cravers.

Author illustrator X. Fang is a visual artist and maker of books for young children. This is her debut book. Publisher : Penguin Random House Canada.

The picture book format and illustrations were colorful and inviting. The story was clever and cute, but I thought it was a bit silly and didn't really make sense to me. The joy of making and eating dim sum was evident, but I thought it was too goofy when the little girl became wrapped up in a dumpling and almost eaten.

Other readers may enjoy, but this was a miss for me!

A story so well told you can almost smell the baos, buns and bowls of congee!! The illustrations brought a smile to me face and a rumbling in my belly.

A great way to introduce a different foods and different customs to your young reader. I hope they leave some dumplings for me!!

Grateful to have received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley & Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books

This was a cute book that was fun and engaging to read. We loved that it had a culture that many kids might not be familiar with. My family and I love dim sum so we felt right at home. I loved the before and after the story it had illustrations and titles of a bunch of different dim sum items. The only thing I didn't love about the book was the illustrations, I felt they could have been better.

Dim Sum Palace is a humorous adventure that both entertains and educates. This book will inspire kids to be adventurous when it comes to trying new foods from other cultures. It will encourage them to think about how other foods are made and imagine what they might taste like.

Liddy’s excitement about visiting the Dim Sum Palace is contagious. She teaches young readers to approach new experiences with both imagination and excitement. The illustrations of food and how it is made are beautifully drawn. Overall, young readers will enjoy this whimsical adventure!

Immediately opening the book the cover pages have gorgeous illustrations of hand-drawn dim sum. In the story a young girl is looking forward to going to dim sum with her family. They are going to Dim Sum Palace and she dreams and imagines it is an actual palace. In her dream, the young girl visits the palace which is gigantic and goes on a dim sum adventure. When she wakes up she realizes it was a dream and real dim sum is nothing like her dream. It is a fun story where young kids can learn that dreams can be a little scary but they will be ok, and the value of dim sum and family.

A big thank-you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for giving me a copy of this book for an unbiased review.

2/5 - It was okay.

I love reviewing children's books which have a multicultural interest and vibrant illustrations, which is why I gravitated towards this one. Unfortunately, I found it disappointing for the following reasons:

- The story had no central narrative or conflict. Without giving any spoilers away, I'll just say that nothing much really happens in this book. There is no challenge that the protagonist overcomes, no lesson learned, no exploration of the world around them.

- The illustrations, whilst vibrant on the cover and inner pages, are not as vibrant or detailed through the story

- Other than the mention of dim sum, there is no exploration of a different culture which feels shallow in its representation

I did think the illustrations were cute, so for this I give it two stars.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This book was cute, its a fun kid's book about dim sum and dumplings, I think it's important for cultures to see themselves in children's book and also this could be used as an introduction to different foods for other cultures.

Not a bad book, but not exactly what I was looking for. The story is cute enough but the drawings could have been better. I was hoping the children at my school would respond to this book but the illustrations were in the words of one student "lacking"
It is a story worth telling, and it is a fun read but is missing something.

This is a book about an excited little girl. I wish I felt her excitement. What makes Dim Sum so special? The artwork is great and the story line is good, but needs more feeling.
