The "Dim Sum Palace" is a fun story of a girl who loves dumplings whose dreams take her to the Dim Sum Palace where she is nearly gobbled up.

I loved the character design of the little girl and the giant chefs and empress. The charming textures and colors of the illustrated dumplings made my mouth water! And I giggled seeing unhappy Liddy wrapped up in a dumpling.

This story was a lot of fun - it had beautiful representation of food and culture with a touch of whimsy. The illustrations were so sweet, I adored the range of facial expressions of the main character and the humour of the illustrations.

I wasn't sure what I was getting into with this book, but it's a super cute and simple story about a little girl’s dream. .

Liddy is so excited to go to the Dumpling Palace for Dim Sum. She falls asleep dreaming of delicious food, and finds herself in a kitchen. Suddenly Liddy is part of the Dim Sum offerings for the Empress. Liddy befriends the Empress, enjoys a delicious meal and is sent back to her home. This story is a whimsical and wonderful fantasy story for young children. The pictures are a perfect mirroring to the text, and bring readers directly into the story. Young children will find the story funny as Liddy becomes a dumpling herself, and enjoy the fantasy elements. This book is a great read for preschool to early elementary students.

Such a cute story of child that overthink her visit to a dimsum restaurant entitled "Dim Sum Palace".

It's cute because it shows the innocent of children and their imagination. They take what adults say literally, as the child in this story literally think the restaurant is a palace 😅

Her overthinking brought her to dimsum palace in her dream. It's cute to see her in same size as the dimsum and somehow she fell and be on of the dimsum that would be eaten by the empress.

I love the story, especially the imagination of the children 💞 I like the graphic too~ I don't really know how to elaborate it, but I like it 💖

I was recently hoping to find another childrens book about Dim Sum because I think it would be great to have and talk about during the Lunar New Year. This book fits so well into that! I will be purchasing this title.

This book was absolutely adorable. The story takes you into another culture with the use of the cultural cuisine, and with the adorable main character, Liddy. She's so excited to eat at the Dim Sum Palace, that she dreams about it, and the story takes you through how Dim Sum is made. It was a wonderful story, and the art style was quite cute as well.

A cute picture book for the little ones. I loved the pictures and the story. I think that the little ones will love it as well. It is cute , funny and enjoyable.

I guess this is an okay kids book. But I do feel like the author should've added a little more substance to the story. Really cute overall.

We love this cute little story, in fact we have read and re-read this one many times. It's my daughters favorite - maybe because the title has "Palace" in it? OR maybe because it's about a tall imagination? Either way the story is cute. and details how a little girl dreams of going to eat at "Dim Sum Palace" and what it would be like. Her adventure is a happy one, even though she almost gets mistaken for a piece of Dim Sum herself! She does meet an Empress who is very kind to her as well.

The illustrations in this book are very detailed and my daughter loved looking at the images and immediately she noticed the small details that the illustrator added for effect (i.e. how small the little girl is relative to all other people in her dream).

Very creative story that is perfect before sending your own little one off to dreamland for the night. Highly recommend.

Recommended ages: 4-7 yrs.

This is such a sweet book! I was drawn to the title and cover art. The illustrations are wonderful, including the picture charts of the individual delights. This would be a great book for home libraries, public and school libraries and school classrooms, easily opening up discussions and activities.

The illustrations for this book are stunning. I really enjoyed seeing how the story came together. All in all a decent read. My main feedback is that the file while downloaded via kindle made it very hard to read the font that went along with the photos - not sure if that was intentional but thought I’d flag it

What a fun, cute story full of great pictures and lots of yummy food. Now I want Dim Sum too Liddy 😋

X. Fang’s “Dim Sum Palace” is the wonderful adventure of Liddy, the young main character who is excited by the upcoming family outing to the Dim Sum Palace the next morning. In her dreams, Liddy is transported to a real palace, where she is made into a dumpling and served up to an empress. Endearing and sometimes comical illustrations bring Liddy’s journey to life. Reminiscent of Maurice Sendak’s “In the Night Kitchen,” this whimsical story is itself an ode to the delicacies of dim sum and their tempting flavours. As a child, I remember the magic of carts full of baskets and delightful little parcels that tasted as good as they looked. The ambiance of the noisy restaurant and the dance of the carts’ servers in tempting you to try new dishes and to load up on favourites was wonderful and exciting. This book brought back wonderful memories and makes a wonderful story to share with children - both for dim sum aficionados and newbies alike. 


Teacher Tips

* This would make a great Lunar New Year read, talking about the importance of food in different cultures.  

* As part of a collection of books relating the importance of cultural foods, this would make a great addition.  

* The artwork inside the front cover shows a great number of classic dim sum dishes. It would be great to bring some into the classroom to try. Or, if you’re a parent, take your kids out for the experience.

* Read along withe Maurice Sendak’s “In the Night Kitchen” - what is the draw of the dream world? Into whose kitchen would your students and children want to be transported? What might they see?

This was an adorable book! I appreciated the picture chart of dimsum in the front, the art was cute and pulled you into the story, and the simple story was sweet! I love that we have this book both to offer more representation in kids books and to showcase delicious foods (great for picky eaters!)

Dim Sum Palace was a cute multicultural book that I would add to my classroom library. It followed Liddy on her trip to eating Dim Sum and how tasty it is!

Beautiful food artwork and a quick read. Libby is a young person being tucked in with the promise of going to “The Dim Sum Palace.” Cute to see how Libby’s dreams of meeting the Empress turns into her being rolled into a dumpling.

This was a fun, whimsical celebration of Dim Sum. The food looked scrumptious in the illustrations and I enjoyed some of the tie ins to the culture in the details of the illustrations. My five year old laughed a lot on the page where Liddy is looking particularly grumpy after being made into a dumpling.
