I really liked the labeled food illustrations at the start of book. I will definitely buy this book as soon as it’s available. Thank you for letting me preview this book.

A whimsical children’s story about a little girl named Liddy who can’t wait to have dim sum at the Dim Sum Palace. In her excitement, her dreams are filled with magical realism, and she becomes the dim sum and is eaten by the empress. When Liddy arrives at the real Dim Sum palace, she is disappointed by the strip-mall exterior and surprised by the lively, bustling interior where she has delicious dim sum.

Dim Sum Palace is a very cute and whimsical story. I enjoyed the magical realism elements, when the MC is pulled into the world of her dreams and gets to explore the tastes and textures of dim sum. The art style wasn't my favorite, but that's hardly a complaint. I think this would be a fun read for families (provided that a trip to go get dim sum is scheduled right after you're done reading!)

What a lovely adventure we get to have with Liddy! She is a young girl preparing for bed the night before a visit to Dim Sum Palace. She has never been before but dreams of dumplings. The art was whimsical and I enjoyed the silliness of the plot. This book will make you want to run to Dim Sum!

I absolutely loved this book. I am from Hong Kong where dim sum is a big part of my culture. I thought this book was cute and wholesome. A great gift for children or anyone with southeast Asia heritage.

What an absolute delight this book was to read! Drawing inspiration from Sendak, one of my favorite illustrators, this story is sweet and sincere and such a beautiful love letter to dim sum.

A cute and imaginative tale about a girl dreaming of dim sum. The images are fantastical, but also show the process of making dim sum. Sure to make you hungry!

Did I enjoy seeing hints of dim sum fare on opening end pages? Yes. Did I go along with Liddy’s dream trek to a palace kitchen and delight on seeing more foods displayed and named? Yes. Did I enjoy Liddy falling into dumpling filling and being wrapped up, cooked (?) and presented to a caricature like empress? Sadly, no. Was I glad to see Liddy back in the present, at a dim sum location that resembled a strip mall (haha!) and enjoying her food? Yes. Do I have mixed feelings on this title? Yes. Pros for the brief attempts at describing food and sticking to real depictions of dim sum restaurant (exterior locale and interior hubbub, really liked the spread with carts and families and activity: brings back memories) Cons for the dream sequence, and the way the Empress is drawn when she spots Liddy. Will I still support and encourage first time authors of color. Absolutely. Looking forward to more from this author.

Liddy is *so* excited that she and her family are going to the Dim Sum Palace tomorrow she can hardly sleep! When she finally drifts off, she dreams of going to an actual palace, and being made into a dumpling which is served to the Empress. The Empress is, of course, startled to find a little girl inside of her dumpling, so she invites Liddy to stay and enjoy the dim sum with her. I particularly liked the end papers which illustrate rows and rows of delightful delicacies. A darling early childhood picture book.

Many thanks to Penguin Random House Canada for providing an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Kids and parents alike will enjoy this #ownvoices homage to Asian food. Parents will recognize the references to In the Night Kitchen, while kids will be hooked by the story of a girl who wakes in the night and finds herself being made into a dumpling for the Empress! (Don’t worry, no one gets eaten!) The end papers offer a delightful visual dictionary of dim sum varieties.

X. Fang created such a sweet story filled with magic, wonder, and nostalgia! A little girl who dreams about eating dim sum, because who wouldn’t?! The story is adorable, and the pictures go along so well with it, adding to the sense of wonder that is embedded in the story itself. There need to be more books that expose children to different cultures and foods, and Dim Sum Palace creates a lovely story to introduce everyone to Chinese culture and food! Such an adorable and sweet read that no one should miss!

A cute short story about a little girl that is so excited to visit the Dim Sum Palace ( a restaurant), she dreams she visits a real palace.
Felt nostalgic because of how similar it is to the Night Kitchen, but made me hungry for some good dim sum!! ;_;

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have to admit, I was a little bit disappointed about the story. From the cover and the title, I thought it was going to be about a kid learning about her culture and the wonderful food- dimsum. But I quickly warmed up to the actual book, Liddy dreaming that she was made into a dumpling and about to be eaten by an Empress.

Overall still a cute story, I just wish the author had talked more about the different type of dimsum.

This is such a cute book! With a very unique illustration style, Liddy is able to go through her dreamworld and explore the magic of dumplings. A quick warning that this book *could* potentially be scary to very small kiddos but overall it's a wonderful adventure exploring the culture of dumplings for Lunar New Year.

Miigweetch NetGalley and Tundra Books for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

“Dim Sum Palace” is an illustrated story about one little girl’s dream-world of dim sum, a traditional Chinese meal made up of small plates of dumplings and other snack dishes, accompanied by tea. Similar to the way that the Spanish eat tapas, the dishes are shared among family and friends.

I enjoyed the art style immensely; the colored pencil drawings are soft, sweet, and evoke the warm feelings the protagonist feels when she eats dim sum. This would make an excellent addition to a school or classroom library. I especially recommend it to educators working on multiculturalism units.

I adored this book! It was a good reminder of the way that hearing something can sounds so different that what it actually is, and especially for children and their vivid imaginations. It made me so hungry!
