"Lead for a Change: Proven Strategies to Clarify Expectations, Foster Growth, and Achieve Breakthroughs" by Dr. Ronald S. Glickman provides a practical guide for leaders navigating change initiatives. With over thirty years of executive experience, Glickman shares valuable insights and strategies aimed at achieving breakthrough results on a global scale. While the book offers practical techniques and real-world examples, there are areas where it could benefit from more depth and nuance.

One of the strengths of the book is its emphasis on the importance of well-defined expectations in change management. Glickman rightly contends that the goal of change is not happiness but meeting and exceeding clear expectations. This focus on aligning diverse stakeholders and establishing a foundation for accountability is a key takeaway for leaders at any stage in their career.

The three success factors outlined—Change Management, Experiential Learning, and Employee Engagement—form a solid framework for understanding and implementing effective leadership strategies. Glickman's use of leadership theory, coupled with action-learning exercises and real-world examples, enhances the accessibility of the content and makes it applicable to a broad audience.

However, the book's brevity leaves room for improvement. While it covers the essential success factors, some topics could benefit from more in-depth exploration. For instance, the section on experiential learning could delve deeper into specific case studies or practical scenarios to enhance the reader's understanding and application of the concept.

Additionally, while the book is approachable, it tends to provide a high-level overview of the strategies, leaving readers craving more detailed guidance and examples. The application of the strategies is framed as creating context-specific recipes, which may leave some readers wishing for a more concrete and detailed roadmap.

In conclusion, "Lead for a Change" is a three-star guide that offers valuable insights and strategies for leaders seeking to navigate change initiatives. Dr. Ronald S. Glickman's experience shines through, and the book serves as a useful resource, particularly for those at the early stages of their leadership journey. However, for readers looking for more in-depth exploration and detailed guidance, additional resources may be required to complement the book's framework.

There was a lot of great points in this book, but I felt like some things could have been taken deeper as well.

It wasn’t one of those personal development / business books that blew my mind and I’ll be keeping on my desk for a reference guide, but it’s a good start especially for someone who is not well versed in leadership books.

I liked the having the key points after each chapter, it was a great area for takeaways and to really highlight what you should be focusing on in each section.

This book is about change that we can drive at any stage of our lives and careers. You will learn that when driving business results you can't make everyone happy and that well defined objectives can drive successful outcomes for multiple parties involved. Being authentic helps to win long and because transactional and transformational leaders have different leadership styles that deliver different business results. I liked the idea of transformation journey which brings a good understanding of stages and how to strategically follow a change with purpose and direction to avoid efforts that do not contribute to desired results. There are very good action items at the end of each chapter and review/practical application of those tools.
