I got 5% in and I had to DNF. It wasn’t a strong set up to start and I didn’t know what was going on. It felt clear it wasn’t a right fit read for me. Thank you NetGalley for the starting opportunity to read this one.

This was a fairly quick read. The characters were funny and I enjoyed seeing the friendship between Ty and Martin! The side characters were all funny and overall it was an enjoyable story!

This was 3.5 stars for me.

I had a slow start with this one but it didn't take too long for me to really get into the story. It really ended up being a great read and I enjoyed it a lot.

Overall, I did enjoy this book. Martin was a sweet MC and TY was over the top but fun in his own way. I finished this book in one sitting as well. I am excited to read more from this author in the future. 3.5 stars from me which will be rounded into 4 stars.

It took a moment for me to get into the quirky, almost over-the-top first person POV, but once I was in, the story flowed and I was completely immersed.

In a few ways, this is a very unusual book. The author doesn’t seem to have written any other fiction besides this, and it seems like this is based heavily on reality (his best friend in RL is apparently the cover model). This doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the story at all.

The story of Martin and his platonic love affair with his best friend(‘s amazingly well-endowed package) is fun and cute at times, risqué at others (the drag queens absolutely stole the show), with a couple surprisingly deep emotional moments.

I read this pretty much in one go, and liked it a lot. Ty is completely charming in his unassuming country-boy way and I really like how different Martin and Ty are. Some times the narrative goes too far down Dialogues Between Straight And Gay To Promote Mutual Understanding, but I enjoyed the various outings and situations Martin and Ty go through.

Aside from the Black Moment where communication breaks down in a frustrating way, I found Martin to be a sympathetic character, and the overall story arc satisfying.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest feedback!

I read most of this book in a single setting, through the night. It took a couple days for me to get far enough into the plot for the story to really catch my attention Once it got going, though, I couldn't put it down because I was dying to find out the ending. And when I got to the ending, I wasn't expecting anything even CLOSE to what this story delivered. I thought I knew where it was going, because friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes. Instead, StraightForward delivered a tale of unrequited love, friendship, and finding soulmates in unexpected places.

All in all, a solid 3.5 stars, which I'll round up to four.
