Nola Trenholm knows ghosts. She also. knows they're in her house in New Orleans.

But her crush, Beau's long-lost sister, Sunny, reappears. And Beau asks a question that includes contacting an old flame. Will this help her or hurt her chances of figuring out what these ghosts want?

Karen White spins a tale that weaves grief and mental health seamlessly into a novel with an entertaining story—highly recommended.

Nola's not afraid of ghosts. Her stepmom can see dead people—so Nola's learned to live with restless spirits. She and friend Beau have just embarked on a career flipping haunted houses when his long-lost sister Sunny reappears. But how did Sunny end up with the couple who adopted her? Will the quest to discover long-dead secrets lead a hidden evil to rise again?

I've enjoyed Karen White's Tradd Street series, so I'm excited about this spin-off series. You don't have to read the Tradd Street novels to follow along with the Royal Street novels. You might enjoy this book more, though, if you read the first book in the Royal Street series.

Nola is energetic, smart, and fun. Beau is a bit of an enigma, and it's not clear yet where their relationship is headed. This book focuses on what happened after Sunny's kidnapping. It's a twisty, spooky story that kept me guessing until the end.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

We are back following Nola who’s house is still haunting despite trying to cleanse it. This is the second book in this royal street series which is full of mystery and suspense and we will see what happens next.

Second in the Royal Street series. Psychics and evil spirits teem in New Orleans threatening the comfort Nola Trenholm is building for herself. While she and her roomate, Jolene, an absolutely original and charming character, live in an apartment, Nola works on restoring her haunted cottage. Family secrets keep the lightness at bay. And more will come out. Entertaining paranormal suspense.

Nola's new (new to her) cottage is haunted, Beau's sister Sunny is back from being kidnapped, and there's a lot of things afoot that I had a hard time following. I'l be the odd one out who tried unsuccessfully to enjoy this without having read either the first book in the series or the series that this one spun from. Whew. I know White made a valiant effort to provide back story for readers like me but somehow I just couldn't get into the story. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC, I know this is going to be a hit with White's fans.

I am so glad that Karen White didn't leave behind the much loved Tradd Street characters when that series was done. The House on Prytania is the second book in the Royal Street series which follows Nola, Jack and Melanie's oldest daughter as she returns to the city she grew up and is her namesake. However, leaving Melanie behind doesn't stop her from encountering more ghosts and finding herself in the middle of mysteries to be solved and houses to restore. Book two picks right up where book one left off. I just adore grown up Nola and her roommate Jolene. Nola's love life is a disaster waiting to happen and I honestly can't decide who I think she should end up with. I love her tenacity and her willingness to deal with situations and try and solve problems unlike Melanie who always stuck her head in the sand until she no longer had a choice. Getting to spend time with Sarah, her sister, who is nearly a teenager now was a fun addition. The book, even though they battled a gnarly spirit and had a lot to figure out, was like a warm hug and getting to hang out with your best friends.

I didn't realize when I accepted this widget that it is second in a series that is not standalone. It's absolutely my fault. I expected it to be historical fiction and to be able to dive right in. thank you so much for sending!

The House on Prytania by Karen White is the 2nd book in her Royal Street series. The story continues with Nola Trenholm (heroine) still working on her new Creole cottage in New Orleans, which is haunted with ghosts (some good and some evil). Nola learned a lot of historic preservation, especially being the step daughter of Melanie, who has the ability to talk to ghosts (Tradd series). We follow Nola, as she tries to get Beau (who does see ghosts, but refuses to talk to them); and with Beau’s sister (taken as a young girl) returning home, he is bent to find those who kidnapped her. Though Nola loves working on the house, she does fear the evil entity that seems to cause problems.

Beau is convinced that Michael's (Nola’s ex-boyfriend) family was behind Sunny's disappearance and that Michael is the key to getting information the police won't be able to ignore. Nola has second thoughts, but agrees to meet with Michael and his family to discover the truths, but first she welcomes her family who are visiting.

It was great to see Mellie, Jack and the twins (Sarah and JJ), as well as an old flame, Cooper. Sarah is only 13 years old, but she had the ability of seeing and hearing ghosts, which she gained from her mother, Melanie (Mellie). Sarah was such a great addition, always giving Nola information she gained from reading certain books, as well as revealing what the ghosts are telling her. Jolene, who has become Nola’s best friend, is such a fun and awesome character, always making sure Nola dressed properly, and cooking/baking for everyone. Thibeau and Jorge continues to help Nola with renovating the house, despite the ghosts.
What follows is the mystery as to who kidnapped Sunny all those years ago, as well why the ghosts who haunt her house. As we reach closer to the end, some surprising secrets are revealed, and lives are threatened, with Nola and Beau working together to fight the evil entity.

The House on Prytania was so very well written by Karen White, which was an excellent story, with a fabulous heroine in Nola, in a town that has so much history, with ghosts, mystery, suspense and historical homes. I loved the wonderful secondary characters, especially Jolene. Karen White once again gives us a fabulous addition to this series and I look forward to the next book.

Thank you to Uplit Reads and Karen White for my complimentary copy of The House on Prytania. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The House on Prytania is a great addition to the new series. I (still) have not read The House on Tradd Street series, and while there is some mention of them in this book, it is very easy to follow along.
I enjoyed the "short vacation" to New Orleans while reading this one.

We basically picked up where we left off in The Shop on Royal Street. Nola is still trying to fix up her (haunted) cottage. She is getting very good at doing all the renovations, as no one will step foot over the threshold except for very few brave contractors. Sunny is back and is very happy to be back with her family.
What could possibly go wrong? It seems the ghosts have not gone peacefully into the light and some seriously spooky stuff happens.
I’m so proud of myself for figuring out the mystery early on !! I’m getting better

Beau annoys me, I wish he would man up and embrace his special gift.
Jolene is super fun and I am glad she is a main character. I love everything about her Southern charm, manners, and her love language - food.
Nola is growing into herself and I am proud of how her life choices are helping with the transition.

All in all, this is a fun read and I cannot wait for the next book and all the fun that awaits Beau, Jolene and Nola.

This book is a sequel in the Royal Street Series by Karen White. There is no need to worry if you did not read the first book, as the author describes any backstory in great detail. In this second installment, Nola, our main character, is persuaded to help Beau (an unrequited love interest), discover what happened to his sister, in this supernatural tale.

3.5 stars---I would recommend this read to anyone who enjoys Janet Evanovich and her Plum series novels--but in this case, the reader should be prepared to enjoy a good ghost story, instead of a bounty hunter saga!

Thank you to NetGalley, Uplit Reads and Berkley Books for the ARC!

Another fun addition to the spin-off from the Tradd Street series, with Nola, the step-daughter of the main character from the original series, who is working on renovating a house with a history in New Orleans. Once again, there are lingering spirits with unresolved issues taking residence in Nola's new house, and with the help of her friends Beau and Jolene, Nola must figure out how to send them back. This is a quick fun read. Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy.

Wow! Karen White never disappoints! The House on Pyrtania is every bit as good as Shop on Royal! This will be an easy hand sell and I'll definitely be nominating for the Indie Next List.

Such a wonderful read - I really enjoyed this book. I'm so glad that I got the chance to read it early and will definitely be recommending it to multiple people who enjoy these types of novels. I enjoyed the characters and especially enjoyed the writing by this author. I'm excited to see what the author comes out with next as I'll definitely be reading it! Thank you to the publisher for my early copy of this book

As with The Shop on Royal Street, Karen White kept me trying to turn the page at the end of the book! I can’t get enough of Nola’s smart, but empathic personality or Jolene’s crazy. A series I hate waiting for, but am always happy to read a time or two!

4.25 stars

Nola Trenholm is still trying to fix up her recently purchased cottage in New Orleans. However, the work is slow going since most people refuse to even go near the place. It may be a little haunted. Fortunately Nola has other things to keep her busy, with the return of Sunny- Beau’s long lost sister. Sunny was kidnapped as a child, and now it seems like everyone around Nola wants the kidnapper’s to pay. Beau thinks the family of Nola’s ex-boyfriend, Michael Herbert was involved. So a scheme is hatched to uncover the truth. Will Nola be able to help Sunny and Beau and also figure out what is going on at her new house before it’s too late?

Wow! I couldn’t put this book down! I have to admit- I’m loving the Royal Street series even more than I enjoyed the Tradd Street series. I just love this cast of characters so much and have become so invested in their lives.

Karen White writes a story that makes you feel like you’re in the book. I truly felt like I had been dropped into the middle of New Orleans while reading this.

Nola’s friend Jolene is so quirky and fun. And if you’re a fan of the Tradd Street series like myself you will be happily surprised in this one! Though just a note- this spin off series can be read without having read the first series.

My only small complaints with this story were about the romance set ups (that I can’t get into without spoiling things) and also the big reveal at the end. I found the reveal to be a little confusing and had to go back and re-read some parts to clear it up.

Overall this was a fun story with house restoration elements, ghosts, and of course a good mystery set in the heart of New Orleans.

Two and a half stars rounded up Thanks to Berkley for this second book in a series i haven't read, a spin-off from another series I also haven't read. I wish they'd mention this when they offer it...

I tried to skim the first book in this series in case it was necessary to read this one's ARC. In both books I found the same problem; a cozy paranormal mystery enticingly woven with some will-they won't-they romance, but ultimately so slowly paced that I lost interest quickly. It's a shame, since New Orleans has the capacity to be such a rich setting for a story, and this genre hybrid had some real promise.

Jolene is a lovable side character with some memorable dialogue and moments. Nola is cool in that she does her own renovations and a lot of her awkward moments are very relatable. The brief creepy ghosty moments add a little unf to otherwise dull sections. But none of this a greatly enjoyable book makes, for me at least.

"A woman is haunted - both literally and figuratively - by ghosts of the past in this second novel of the Royal Street series by New York Times bestselling author Karen White.

Nola Trenholm may not be psychic herself, but she's spent enough time around people who are to know when ghosts are present, and there are definitely a few lingering spirits in her recently purchased Creole cottage in New Orleans. Something, or someone, is keeping them tethered to this world. And not all of them are benign.

But with the sudden return of Sunny Ryan, Beau Ryan's long-lost sister, Nola has plenty to distract her from her ghostly housemates. Especially when the tempting - yet firmly unavailable - Beau, wanting to mete out justice to those he blames for Sunny's kidnapping, asks Nola for a favor that threatens to derail her hard-won recovery and send her hurtling backward. He asks her to welcome Michael Hebert back into her life, even though Michael is the reason for Nola's bruised heart. Beau is convinced that Michael's powerful family was behind Sunny's disappearance and that Michael is the key to getting information the police won't be able to ignore - if Nola is willing to risk everything for which she's worked so hard.

Torn between helping Beau and protecting herself, Nola doesn't realize until it's almost too late why the ghosts are haunting her house - a startling revelation that will throw her and Beau together to fight a common enemy. Assuming Nola can get Beau to listen to what the spirits are trying to tell him, because ignoring them could prove to be a fatal mistake..."

Always listen to the ghosts. Always.

This is the second book in the Royal Street series, and it picks up right where the previous book left off. There is a quick recap of what has happened and information about the characters. If you love paranormal and a good mystery, check this series out. There is a haunted cottage that is being renovated along with resident entities. You get a great sense of New Orleans with the writing from Karen White and the characters are great. I love Jolene and her humor. I started this book and didn't stop until I finished it. I will be looking forward to the next in the series.

Another delightful ghost romp from Karen. A different location from the Tradd Street series, but there is quite a bit of back history entwined. Could be helpful to read at least the first 2 books in that series first. A cute man, a cute dog, a found sister that doesn't know how she went missing, and a ghost that apparently smokes all day long, what more do you need? #netgalley #berkley #karenwhite #ghoststories

One of my absolute favorite series is Karen White’s Tradd. When it came to an end, I was not ready to let the characters go. Thankfully White created a new spinoff series, Royal Street, and I’m still getting all the characters I love and new cast characters that are just so fun! Of course, I could not get enough of the mystery, ghosts, and more in book two, The House on Prytania.

What appealed to you the most in this story?

Just getting to dive into more mystery, suspense and the lives of each of the characters was the best! However, the characters are what make this story so alive…Including the dead ones! I’ve already fallen in love with Nola’s close friends and the humor and levity they bring to the story. Seriously, Jolene is the absolute best friend any girl could ask for, and her one-liners are perfect for some laugh out loud moments. I cannot get enough of her, and hope that she gets her own book in the near future of this series. Then, add in some more characters that you will love, and you have the makings for an excellent support system to help Nola continue to tackle the renovations on her new home and the ghosts that keep circling.

How was the setting?

Karen White is the master of pulling you into a story and making you feel like you are standing right there with the characters in lush and detailed atmosphere. I loved getting to explore the streets (potholes), restaurants, customs, cemeteries and Parishes in New Orleans through Nola’s eyes.

Do I need to have read The Tradd Street series in order to understand this new spinoff series?

No! You can start this series and begin a whole new adventure and life with Nola and not feel like you have missed a thing. Now I do have to say that the Tradd Street series is one of my favorites and I’ve reread it several times, so if you haven’t read it yet I HIGHLY recommend you dive into it now!

How was the pace?

This story held a steady pace

Do you recommend this book?

Heck yes, I do!! This book is both funny, sad, and suspenseful at times; the multiple mysteries are all interesting; and the ghosts run the gamut from being heartwarming to exceedingly creepy and dangerous. It is truly a great book and series. Now to attempt to patiently wait for book three!

Thank you Berkley Publishing and NetGalley for this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.
