I enjoyed the novella Love Along the Shores by Cara Putman. I enjoyed getting to know Lauren and John and how they both survived living on the island off of the North Carolina coast during WWll. I liked the romance in the story but also liked seeing how the people of the island survived seeing what happened as wrecks of boats washed ashore after being hit by uboats. I look forward to reading the rest of the stories in this book. I received a copy of this novella from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Across the Shores is a lovely collection of stories, with each heroine in possession of a simple gold cross, handed down through the generations.

We begin with More than Gold, by Carolyn Miller: In the wilds of an Australian goldrush where disaster strikes forcing a young woman to face unimaginable hardship. What I liked here is that Josephine never wavers from her duty, and Daniel is right alongside her.

In the second story, The Veil, by Kelly Goshorn, Caroline tries to escape her family but runs headlong into a riot in Baltimore and must recover before continuing her journey. Caroline and Franz have very different lives but their love develops quietly and beautifully, with faith at the center.

The third offering, Running from Love, by Angela Couch, sees Anna Kohler traveling cross-country to support her wayward brother, and the last thing he needs is a Mountie in the family. Who doesn’t love a mountie story? And Constable Benjamin Cole doesn’t disappoint.

And finally, in Lauren’s Song, by Cara Putman, we’re dropped into World War Two Hatteras Island. Here, dangers and poverty abound. In this mysterious story, Lauren and coastguard officer John Weary ensure German U-boats are defeated.

I enjoyed each of the novellas in different ways and recommend this collection to any lovers of historical romance. The publisher gifted me a copy via Netgalley. The opinions are all my own.

Yes - read it!

Love these - can't get enough. One evening reads that are so enjoyable. The first story was great - something out of the ordinary. Last one - didn't fit, left you hanging on numerous fronts but still a good read.

The only downside is that most of the time, you'd love to have the story continue or it was such a great premise you really want to enjoy it again as a full length read.

I received an ARC from Netgalley to help me prepare my honest review.

This enchanting collection has four sweet inspirational romances tied together by a golden cross necklace encouraging each heroine to draw strength for the life God is calling her to. The first three in the collection had the strongest ties to one another, with the necklace being handed down through the families (the final story had the necklace being given through a family friend).

If you like historical romances with strong heroines, then this collection is definitely for you!

Four individual stories tied together by a gold pendant that gets passed down through the years. I love novella collections because you get a wide variety of character types, tropes, and author styles. Carolyn Miller kicks it off in South Wales. I thoroughly enjoyed the gold mining camp setting and the characters in this one. Kelly Goshorn picks it up in Baltimore. I love the theme of loving, trusting, and being seen. Angela Couch then takes it Canada with a Mountie and a woman with a secret. I love the loyalty shown in this story (not to mention some sweet animals). Cara Putnam wraps it up in the Outer Banks with a beautiful island setting and mystery. All blend together beautifully while being able to stand on their own as lovely stories.

This is a great collection of four novellas wrote by four different authors. Each novella is set in a different time in history, and they are connected with a gold locket that has been handed down through the generations. Each story is well written and holds your attention. They are the perfect length to read at the end of a hard day, but once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Christian fiction.

Caroline Walkins is niece of Josephine from previous story. Caroline on her journey to scotland and get troube in german, she met Franz. Franz save Caroline and questioning god is she the Divine providence? The one he waits for God to bring him the right woman? The one to make his heart sing?

I enjoyed all the characters and historic settings Across the Shores introduced me to: One of the few women in a gold mining town in New South Wales, a veiled woman dumped in the middle of a railroad strike in Baltimore, a handsome Mountie doing his duty in Canada, and a young woman and Coast Guard officer dealing with U-boats on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. My dad was in the Coast Guard so that was fun to encounter. All the stories took me to interesting times different than my own making for an absorbing reading experience. I received an advanced reader’s copy. The opinions are my own.

I just finished a very good book called Across the Shores. It is four novellas by four different authors; all new to me. It's about four strong women facing all too real struggles but the authors beautifully wove them together by a gold nugget necklace that was engraved with Philippians 4:13. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The women representing four generations received the necklace from various family members. I will not share plots of each story but I urge you to order and read this book. It was supposed to be released April 1,2023 but it was released two weeks early!! So rush to your favorite book vender and pick up a copy. I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions are my own.

What a unique and wonderful collection of stories! Each story stands on its own, but yet, they are all connected through a family tie in some way. I enjoyed reading about so many different time periods and cultures in history - from the gold rush in Australia, to the railroad labor strikes in Baltimore, to the untamed Canadian frontier just across the border from Montana, and then to the shores of Ocracoke Island in North Carolina and the effects of World War II here on American soil. Each story has wonderful character development and a depth of plot, despite each one being a short story. I enjoyed the many lessons each character learned - about herself, about life, and about God. I highly recommend this collection of stories.

I requested and received a copy of this book for review. The words and thoughts expressed here are wholly my own.

This a collection of Novellas written by four different authors. The thread that ties them is a gold necklace, made from a gold nugget that is found in the first read. The necklace appears in each of these reads, and through the generations these women are related.

From the Gold Fields in New South Wales, to Baltimore MD when a veiled woman arrives during a railroad strike, then to Canada, and a story with a young woman and a Mountie, and lastly to the Outer Banks NC during WWII.

You can choose to read one at a time, but I found myself moving quickly to the next one!

This is read is a treat!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.

The continuity of this novella collection was interesting to me, yes, they were different time periods with various characters but the gold pendant is important to each story. I think the authors wrote engaging stories that are filled with wonderful characters who I genuinely cared for.
I am not normally a fan of novellas because they usually seem to be rushed, that was not the case with this collection. Filled with hardships, faith and love this book is a must read for fans of historical fiction and is one you can share with readers of all ages.
My thanks to the publisher for the copy I received through Netgalley. Opinions are my own,

An enjoyable set of stories connected by a family heirloom. Beginning in the Australian gold rush of 1851, and ending with a WW2 tale along the shores of Ocracoke Island, these were all different with some real history, adventure, faith and tender romances. The heroines were all quite courageous as they faced difficult circumstances with faith and hope. I enjoyed all of them, and found the history interesting, especially the first one set in Australia. I would have liked some to have been longer, but they were fine reads for their lengths. They would make good prequels to longer novels.
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
Recommend to fans of historical Christian fiction with a romance. 4.5 stars

#1 - More Than Gold - This was my favorite. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would read more of Carolyn Miller's work. I don't think I've read about the Australian Gold Rush before, but it was very well done. The characters had depth and integrity. The story was well-crafted, despite its necessary shortness. I would have gladly read more about Josie and Daniel's adventures. I'd give it 3.5 stars.

#2 - The Veil - Caroline - Josie's niece - has a bit of a mysterious past to deal with - with the help of Franz and his family. Despite a bit of a miscommunication, and a little confusion on my part about the nature of Caroline's injuries, this was a satisfactory historical novella. Nothing spectacular, but a solid 3 stars. It wasn't difficult to get through. I appreciate Franz's integrity and Opa's wisdom.

#3 - Running From Love - This was my second favorite of the bunch. I'd probably give it 3.5 stars also. This one is set in a remote part of Canada, featuring the hardworking Anna (Caroline's daughter), her brother, and the local Mountie. This one had a little mystery to it, which I enjoyed, as well as well-crafted characters. I would read more from Angela K. Couch.

#4 - Love Along the Shore - I struggled with this one. It felt awkward and stilted. It needed a good edit, for sure, just for spacing and punctuation (unless that's a formatting issue and I just struggled with the story enough that it felt more obvious in this portion?). At one point, the necklace is mentioned as being a gift from the MC's father's friend, and later it's "been in my family for generations." The characters are good people in hard spots, but there was nothing in this that made me care deeply for or about them. Lauren is kind. I wish her well. But I didn't connect with her in any way. The story felt like it meandered until it ended. Loose ends just sort of trailed off. I hope the final publication will have at least some of these issues resolved. This one is set on a North Carolina island during WWII.

I enjoyed the first three stories. I struggled a bit with the last one. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Overall, it was fun to see the family line through the generations - with the possible exception of the final story, which doesn't appear to have any familial connection to the other three. I appreciate NetGalley giving me the chance to review it.

Four novellas tied together by a necklace with a gold cross inscribed with Phil. 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength," which gives the heroines courage in difficult situations.

From the 1850s Australian gold fields, to 1877 Baltimore, to 1905 Alberta, Canada, to 1942 and the North Carolina barrier island, Ocracoke. There’s a family connection between the first three novellas, but last one is a bit of a stretch. (How did it get from a man born in Baltimore and incarcerated in Montana to his friend in North Carolina?)

I especially liked the gentle giant clock maker, Franz, in story #2, and Mountie Ben in #3. The shorter novella length was just right for these.

I really enjoyed this story! I loved the look through different time periods and different areas. I felt like this gave "Love Comes Softly" vibes, which is one of my favorite series to read and to recommend! the novellas were enchanting, strong character development for all of the women and men in the story. I also enjoyed the short, novella style read, it made the book feel breezy and easy to get through! I thoroughly enjoyed this and would absolutely recommend it to other historical fiction and christian fiction readers.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy and the opportunity to review.

I have read, "The Veil" novella in this collection written by Kelly J. Goshhorn. Her story addresses the importance of being loved for who we are, not for what we do or how we look. This is a very important concept that matters to all of us, and Kelly wrote it in a beautiful and gripping way. She shows a deep understanding of a woman's struggle to find this type of acceptance with the man she gives her heart to. I love Kelly's writing style and her attention to historical details and perspective. I look forward to reading everything she writes.

Across the shores is a compilation of four stories set from the 1851 through 1942. Each story tells of the next generation as a special necklace with a Bible reference is passed down.
More Than Gold by Carolyn Miller takes us to the gold fields in Australia. Elias and his sister, Josephine, arrive planning to make their fortune. Things don’t go quite as planned but there is still plenty to be grateful for.
The Veil by Kelly J Goshorn is next set in the time of a train strike as Caroline Wilkins becomes stranded in Baltimore while trying to escape a terrible situation at home. The veil she wears covers her wounds from that last encounter. She is rescued by a German family who makes clocks but will one of the sons find romance behind the veil?
Running From Love by Angela K. Couch brings us north to Canada as Ernest tries to escape the law with the help of his sister Anna. A mountie lives near their isolated shack and does his best to help Anna. Will Ernest name an honest living or go back to thieving as before?
Love Along the Shore by Clara Putnam brings us to 1942 on the shores of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Lauren and Stephen’s parents have passed away leaving them to care for their younger sister Allie who is 11 now. Stephen goes off to join the war effort as a sailor leaving the two alone in their cottage on the shore. A Coast Guard officer, John Weary, befriends Lauren and helps her as much as he can though his office job keeps him quite busy. As more civilians arrive to work for the military housing is desperately needed so Lauren takes in two women which helps make ends meet. Will the war and threat from German subs offshore ever be over?
I really enjoyed reading this book and could hardly wait to see what will happen next. Each generation depends on God to see them through the troubles that come. Really a great collaboration by these four authors.

I received an advance copy of this book from the Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
