I found Fred Berman's narration to be top-notch. His voice is brimming with personality and he does an excellent job of bringing each character to life with distinctive voices and inflections. The pacing is also spot-on, with just the right amount of tension and humor to keep listeners engaged throughout. Overall, I would highly recommend the audiobook version of Good Dog, Bad Cop to anyone looking for a fun, fast-paced mystery with plenty of laughs and thrills along the way. I give it a solid 4 stars.

While I received a copy of this audiobook in exchanged for my review, all opinions remain my own.

This book literally leaves things until the last pages to wrap up. I had no idea what was going on until the last 10 minutes of this audiobook. The story was detailed and kept me guessing. Characters were interesting and relatable. I love that the retired police dog, Simon, still takes part in the cases that this team takes on. Who doesn't love a good dog? I would totally pick up another one of the books in this series to see if Corey ever does M his long-time girlfriend. ;)

In the book Good Dog, Bad Cop, author David Rosenfelt continues the K Team series with not one but two new cold cases. Retired Paterson cop Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, German shepherd Simon Garfunkel are looking into the death of Corey’s former police mentor Jimmy Dietrich. Jimmy’s body was pulled out of the Passaic River along with a local woman, Susan Avery. With no information and nothing to go on the case became cold and was assumed a murder suicide. Corey never believed the rumors and as he begins to dig into the case, people start trying to kill him. Maybe there is more to this story than anyone knows.
This was a great fun story. This is the fourth book in the series. The audio-book narration was very good. I would recommend this book and the series. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. #GoodDogBadCop

This is a Mystery, and this is the fourth book in the K Team series. I really love the characters in this book, and I found this book to be a fun mystery. I enjoyed the mystery in this book. This book has the characters that the Andy Carpenter series has, but Corey is the main character in this book. I also listening to the audiobook, and I really enjoyed the audiobook. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Minotaur Books) or author (David Rosenfelt) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Good Dog, Bad Cop by David Rosenfelt
Narrator, Fred Berman
Book 4, K Team Series
I have enjoyed this series from the beginning but maybe not quite as much as the Andy Carpenter series. Corey is funny in a smart-alecky kind of way and I love Simon Garfunkle although he only play a small but important part in this book.
For this book to be so short, less than seven hour audiobook, it is a bit convoluted and has a very long list of bad guys. Maybe I was having a poor concentration day but it was a bit hard to keep up without a scorecard. I enjoyed it as a quick, funny listen.
As usual, Fred Berman is great.

This fourth book of the K Team series can be read as a standalone. The K Team is a group of investigators working for the Paterson, NJ police department in investigating cold cases, those that the police haven’t found enough evidence with which to pursue the case and answers have not been found.

Jimmy Dietrich, a former officer on the police force retired and began working as a private investigator. Soon after his marriage fell apart, his body was pulled from the river, with that of a local woman. Though there was never any supporting evidence, it was assumed to be a murder-suicide caused by an affair that went wrong. Corey Douglas of K Team was Dietrich’s protegee and positive that the real murderer was still out there.
Offered as one the choices for cold case investigation, the K Team jumped on the case as well as that of the murder of police detective Danny Avery. Corey believes there is some kind of link between the cases and he and the team of Laurie Collins and hacker Marcus Clark along with retired police dog Simon Garfunkel manage to stir up enough questions in their investigations that all sorts of new information comes to light.

Rosenfelt, an Edgar nominee, has a wry sense of humor that makes his characters come to life. The audio book, narrated by actor and Earphones award winner Fred Berman is a fast-paced listen. Recommended for fans of Rosenfelt, Berman, crime thrillers, and contemporary fiction.

I only discovered David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter books a year or so ago and fell in love with them. (There are currently 26 in that series right now! Yikes!) He has now created a spinoff series and Good Dog, Bad Cop is the fourth in this new K Team series. These books have the same feel as the original series, with good mysteries and lots of New Jersey “snark.”

Corey Douglas, Laurie and Marcus are the K Team, plus another very important member: German shepherd and retired police dog, Simon Garfunkel. In this book, they are investigating a couple of cold cases, one of which involves a former member of the Paterson, NJ police force. Things get complicated, of course!

Since I was lucky enough to get access to both the “print” and audiobook versions, I bounced between them. I really enjoyed Fred Berman’s narration.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook and to Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

In GOOD DOG, BAD COP, David Rosenfelt delivers another exciting installment in the K-Team series. The story follows the team's investigation into a cold case involving the death of Jimmy Dietrich, Corey Douglas's former mentor. With his signature humor and flair for mystery, Rosenfelt crafts a compelling plot that delivers punch after punch.

What sets this book apart from other crime novels is the presence of dogs. The K-Team includes a group of talented canines, such as a German Shepherd named Simon Garfunkel, who retired from the Paterson Police Department at the same time as Corey and who plays a vital role in the investigation.

Rosenfelt's writing is engaging and fast-paced, with plenty of twists and turns. The characters are well-developed and likable, making it easy to become invested in their stories.

Overall, GOOD DOG, BAD COP is an excellent addition to the K-Team series, and a highly recommended read for mystery lovers and dog enthusiasts alike.

wry-humor, snark-fest, cold-case, multiple-murder, investigation, relationship-issues, relationships, working-partners, excop, exmilitary, private-investigators, retired-k-9, law-enforcement, interstate-crimes, false-identities, family, disappearance, friendship, frustration, teamwork*****

I have to admit that I am addicted to the plots and snarky humor of both Andy Carpenter and The K Team. But you don't need to follow in any kind of order to enjoy (just ask my friends!).
This one is more convoluted than most as there are three interconnected cold cases to investigate under the oversight of Captain Stanton of the Paterson Homicide Department. It just keeps on getting crazier and more complicated. No spoilers! Just enjoy and try to solve the mess!
I requested and received an EARC from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
That was February 28, 2023. Now I have been lucky to also get the audio version from Macmillan Audio via NetGalley! Fred Berman continues to do a fine job as Corey Douglas and the K Team.

I still enjoy seeing a new book in this series come out. The K team is working on a cold case and stumble on more than they expected. I love how they got to go exploring and leave the city to find clues to help their case. Simon got to be the hero again and I liked how all of the twist lead to the ending. It is interesting to see Marchs in a different light than you do in the Andy Carpenter series (another of my favorites) I have to admit I did not see the cold case they started winding up solved like it was. Look forward to hearing more.

I love this series and can't wait for more! This 4th book did not disappoint and I get more invested in the characters each time I read a book in the series! I can't wait to see the blossoming of Corey's relationship! I definitely love how everyone is smitten with the K-9 dog Simon! Hurry and write the next installment, I can't wait.

Despite this being the fourth in the series, I was still able to follow the adventures of the K Team with ease. As Corey and Simon delve into this cold case I did not feel that any background information was missing. I enjoyed the fast pace of the story, and the light humour made this an enjoyable listen. The true hero for me was Simon. I love how he was treated as an important part of the storyline. The significance of the dog, and his support role in these cold cases, was nicely defined. It was interesting to see, in at least a small way, how K9 teams work. I really would have liked to see a little more interaction between the cold case team members. The relationships they had were touched upon, and seemed to be pretty fun ones. Perhaps I need to read the rest of the series for this, I’m not sure. I will be looking for them though.

In this fun police procedural, retired detective Corey and his K Team request a cold case to work on as consultants, but there's only one they're willing to take. Instead, they receive a twofer, but that's exactly what they'd hoped for, given that they're suspicious the two cases are connected.

What follows is a well-produced mystery as we try to figure out who killed the murder victims with lots of satisfying twists and turns.

While I'm new to this writer and his characters, each was well-defined and enjoyable, serving their purpose in their own unique ways. And I'm definitely interested in reading more from this series.

Thank you to David Rosenfelt, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

Good Dog, Bad Cop is the 4th K-Team PI procedural by David Rosenfelt. Due out 14th March 2023 from Macmillan on their Minotaur imprint, it's 288 pages and will be available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately; it makes it so easy to find information with the search function.

This is a spinoff series from the Andy Carpenter mysteries featuring Simon Garfunkel, the retired K-9 police dog and his handler companion Corey, and with content featuring Laurie, Marcus, Sam, and everyone's favorite "lazy" sarcastic attorney, Andy Carpenter.

The characters are so well rendered now, and over such a long period of time, that they live and breathe. I love the lightly sarcastic humor and I can never get enough of them (including the canines, maybe *especially* the canines), so the fact that the books have gotten ever so slightly formulaic seems like a feature to me personally and not a bug. I love the books; I will keep buying and reviewing them as long as he keeps writing them. I found Corey's character/attitude and much of the formula of this novel very similar to the novels featuring Andy. For readers who are fans, that will be a big plus. The climax, denouement, and resolution are quite satisfying and self contained in this volume.

Corey and the K-Team are investigating a series of possibly related cold-case murders in New Jersey. It's not long before they're looking at organized crime, potentially dirty cops, corruption, and seriously bad guys in highest echelons of society. There are descriptions of domestic violence and a moderately graphic murder by firearm which could conceivably be upsetting to some readers. The language is fairly clean (PG-rated) and the writing is, as always, light, fun, and more than competent.

The unabridged audiobook version has a run time of 6 hours 3 minutes and is capably narrated by series narrator Fred Berman. His voice has a gravelly quality and he does an extremely convincing New Jersey accent (no idea if it's authentic, it certainly *sounds* authentic). He does a very good job of delineating the individual characters' voices, both sexes and a range of ages. Sound and production quality are high throughout the recording.

Four stars for the print version; four and a half for the audiobook. With 4 books extant in the series, it would make a good choice for a series read or buddy binge read.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Good Dog, Bad Cop by David Rosenfelt was exactly what I hoped it would be! I love Rosenfelt’s playful, witty, sarcasm as he solves fascinating cases. Normally, I read his other series with Andy Carpenter, which focus on Andy’s perspective as a lawyer. Good Dog, Bad Cop centers around Corey, one of the cops that Andy’s wife works with. Corey works cold cases with plenty of familiar characters. I love getting to know some of these characters, Laurie and Marcus, as well the rest of the team that we see often in Andy Carpenter’s cases. The addition of all the dogs is a wonderful treat as their personalities are almost as developed as the human ones! The mystery is on point and the pace is perfect. The humorous dialogue, snappy comebacks, and strong policework left me thoroughly enjoying and willingly recommending this book to others. The narrator, Fred Berman, has a soothing voice to listen to that captures the cadence, mood, and personality of all the characters. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

Good Dog, Bad Cop by David Rosenfelt

A special thank you to #davidrosenfelt, @netgalley , @stmartinspress , & @macmillan.audio for the opportunity to read this #eARC #audiobookarc in exchange for my (& Candie’s) honest review!

The K Team is a retired canine Simon Garfunkel, former detective Corey Douglas, Laurie Collins, and Marcus Clark who enjoy solving cold cases for the Paterson Police Department. When Corey’s former mentor shows up connected to the latest case, he can’t pass up an opportunity to clear his former colleague’s name. Will they solve two cases at once or is this case more than they bargained for?

A crime-solving investigator and canine duo? That’s an automatic two paws up premise for us! This was a solid read with a very unpredictable plot twist at the end that I enjoyed. Ultimate antagonist gave off some Bond villain vibes, which I appreciated. I absolutely love these characters and will undoubtedly be back for more of this series. I highly recommend as fast-paced crime-fighting novel!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 4/5

I enjoyed this book, just not as much as I enjoy the Andy Carpenter series. Unfortunately I think the author has written a second character very similar to Andy, so, while I know they aren’t the same person, it was hard to distinguish our narrator in this story from Andy.

I think this series would be better told from Laurie’s point of view to fully establish that this series is different.

I received an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.
