This book is yet another flawless example of David Rosenfelt’s masterful use of voice to tell a story. The character and personality that comes through his writing to bring his characters alive never fails to keep the reader engaged in the story. As an avid reader of the Andy Carpenter series, I love the interplay between the characters from each series, and also that you don’t have to read both series to understand. I did immediately know it was the cantaloupe, not the peaches, that were important to Andy (if you know, you know), but it was explained so even those not in the know we’re let in on the secret. This book makes me even more eager for the next in either series!

David Rosenfelt is the author of the Andy Carpenter mysteries, of which this series is a spin-off. Corey Douglas and his retired K-9 partner Simon Garfunkel (great dog name!) join with Andy's wife Laurie and her pal Marcus to solve cold cases for the Patterson, NJ police department. Andy and some of the characters from the other series make cameo appearances. This time they are trying to solve what was called a murder/suicide of Corey's mentor Jimmy. The story has the same tongue in cheek humor that Mr Rosenfelt always incorporates. I love his style of writing and I admire him for his work in dog rescue with his Tara Foundation. Thanks to the publisher for allowing me to have a free audio copy. This series is narrated by Fred Berman, who successfully becomes Corey Douglas. He performance is flawless, well modulated and well paced.

***** I received this ARC audiobook free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

First of all, David Rosenfelt is one of my favorite authors! He hooked me way back when he told his Dog Tripping story! I always love how animals (even police dogs) are depicted in his books. I never have to fear for the dog. The criminals on the other hand don’t get by unscathed. This book was much like his others! A great case to be solved and great police work.

Since I listen to the audiobook I will say that the reader had a voice that seemed to fit the story well.

My thanks to Net Galley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to review this arc.

Corey McDonald and company are called upon to solve a cold case of a dead cop.

I liked this story and read other books by this author. Good narrator. My only complaint.....more Simon Garfunkel!!

Cute

This was pretty much just like every other book by this author. Forgettable plot, witty dialog, fast read. It was different at first as the reader of the audiobook was not the one I was used to, but that made sense once I realized that the main character was not Andy Carpenter. I have to admit I listened to this a week ago and have already forgotten which of his colleagues was the main character (or anything about the plot), but I do remember liking it. It was refreshing not to hear about the perfect dog Tara or the perfect wife like in the last of the Andy Carpenter series. All of the main characters are there, but from a bit of a different slant. If you like the other books by Rosenfelt, you will like this.

This author was recommended to my by a friend and I can tell you that I enjoyed it so much. The story and mystery kept me hooked the whole book. Simon Garfunkel is my absolute favorite, but I am partial to German Shepherds. The relationships between the partners and Laurie's husband, Andy, had me giggling. "Hey Andy, can you bring me lunch?"

This is book 4 in the K-Team series, but the author gives you enough background in a non annoying way that you can read it as a standalone, but I plan on going back and reading them all.

I enjoyed Fred Berman's narrating performance, however, I felt his female voices sounded a little to similar. I hope that can change for any future books.

4/5

Thank you to Net Galley, St. Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to the ARC in exchange for and honest review.

“For the K Team, playing “good dog”, “bad cop” is all fun and games… until there’s a body on the scene, in the next K Team Novel by bestselling author David Rosenfelt.“

I picked up this book, after really enjoying a book from another of this author’s series. The covers are goofy and titles ridiculous, but Rosenfelt writes a tight story – not easy for such a short novel.

I enjoyed all the different main characters, including Simon Garfunkel. I liked that there was an established, healthy romance (should they or should they not ‘M’?). I liked the witty dialogue, and the comradery between the colleagues. I loved that I had a few inklings of what was coming, story-wise, but not enough to wreck the ending.

This is the 4th book in the K-Team series, and while I would consider it a stand-alone, I do think I’ll enjoy going back and filling in all the gaps.

7.5/10

Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Macmillan Audio for this quick and enjoyable ARC.

This book is the fourth in the series "K Team Mysteries" but don't worry if you haven't read the first few I hadn't ever. The book is well written and easy to follow along and get caught up in the story. The K Team are private investigators made up of an ex-cop Cory Douglas and his K-9 partner Simon Garfunkel (love that name), plus Laurie Collins and Marcus Clark. This team investigates cold cases for the Paterson Police Department. The narrator for the book is Fred Berman and he has an excellent voice for this book. I love his gravely old movie sound and it kept me riveted to the end. I will say there are a lot of characters in this story and I needed to pay attention to keep up but once into it, you will not want to stop. Great twists and turns and just a fun read.
I want to thank NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and St. Martin Press for an ARC. This review is my honest opinion.

Paterson NJPD hires the K team to investigate several cold cases. Retired officer Corey Douglas, Simon Garfunkel, a former K-9 police dog along with a cast from the Andy Carpenter series are solving mysterious deaths that may have been a case of murder-suicide. One of the deceased was Corey's former mentor at the PD. Corey doesn't believe for one second and finds this case personal to him

The K Team series is a fun and quick crime police procedural with light humor. I don't need a dark crime novel all the time so this fits the bill. The mystery and suspense are good coupled with characters I like making book #4 in the series very entertaining. Good Dog, Bad Cop can be read as a standalone.

Fred Berman is a great narrator for this. I like his unique raspy voice. I was able to tell each character apart from his subtle change in tone. It's entertaining all around. 3.5⭐

Author and dog lover David Rosenfelt gives us another good solid entry in the K Team series, which is a spinoff of the wonderful Andy Carpenter series. The whole crew is back together - Corey, Laurie, Marcus, and, of course, Simon Garfunkel - with Andy paying for the pizza. They work together to solve the cold case of Corey's mentor in the police department, Jimmy Dietrich. The case was declared a murder/suicide with tones of an affair gone wrong, but Corey has always been convinced this was not the case.

If you've read either the previous K Team books or the Andy Carpenter series and want to try something new, you will love this novel.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an ARC audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The K Team #4

Although this well into the series it’s my first read by this author. Read by Fred Berman, I enjoyed his gravelly tones. I was surprised at how very well he coped with the female voices.

Corey Douglas is a retired cop, now investigator he works with Marcus Clark,Laurie Collins and Simon Garfunkel ( had to smile at that name) his also retired police dog.
He gets the pick of cold cases to work on, he is drawn to that of his old mentor Jimmy Dietrich potentially involved in a case of murder suicide of local woman Susan Avery. Corey sets out to clear his friends name. He also gets a secondary cold case that doesn’t seem to have any connection.

Corey has a lot of experts to call upon some more legal than others, Sam the ‘cyber entry’ expert is a real gem, and my favourite character.
It is a good mystery with a complex plot, it has gentle humour. I had hoped that the K9 would take a bigger role so was slightly disappointed. From the cover and title I got the impression that it might have been a more light ’fun’ read.
I didn’t really gel with Corey, not totally sure why, perhaps I felt he was too old school and macho.

I enjoyed it.

Again David hit it out of the park. I cant help but read every one of his books. I will be buying every book he writes for my grandkids to read when they get into Jr. high school. They are murder but they are not gruesome so I have no problem letting the middle graders read them. They also include dogs in them so my animal lover grandkids will also love them for that. I look forward to reading the next one already.

Book Title: Good Dog, Bad Cop
Series: The K-Team #4
Author: David Rosenfelt
Narrator: Fred Berman
Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: March 19, 2023
My Rating: 3.4 Stars

This is my twenty-second novel by David Rosenfeld ~ True eighteen have been Andy Carpenter novels!
The David Rosenfeld humor has always been an entertaining Andy read!

Loved that Andy and friends played a role and since narrator Fred Berman was one of the narrators in the awesome audiobook "Daisy Jones & the Six" .I was sure he was going to work out in this series and really needs a different narrator then the Andy Carpenter series. (Note: Narrator Grover Gardner’s deadpan voice is Andy in my book!)

This is only my second in this series and Yikes I find Corey Douglas unlikeable ~ and his machos nasty language continues to be annoying (I am sure I am still comparing him to Andy). However, I knew it would still be fun.~ Who doesn't love dogs?
The K Team enjoys investigating cold cases for the Paterson Police Department. Corey Douglas, his K-9 partner Simon Garfunkel, Laurie Collins, and Marcus Clark even get to choose which cases they’d like to pursue.
In this story Corey, Laurie and Marcus take on a new case...an officer was murdered while apparently on a stake out.

Want to thank NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for granting me this early audio eGalley. Publishing Release Date scheduled for March 19, 2023.

I saw the cover for Good Dog, Bad Cop and was immediately sold. I made this decision before with another one of David Rosenfelt's books. He knows how to pick a cover and a title to make me want it without knowing a single thing about it.

The last book I read by Rosenfelt was Santa’s Little Yelpers. I liked that book but didn’t love it. I don’t quite love Good Dog, Bad Cop but it was very close.

An ex-cop turned private investigator Corey Douglas is investigating what was considered a murder-suicide of his old mentor and friend. Corey starts to connect dots that no one saw before and sees how a few murders started to come together to be related.

Corey has a retired police dog as his sidekick that I wish had a bigger part in the story. I love dogs so I always want them to have a bigger role.

Another part that I liked was the familiar characters from Rosenfelt's other series like Andy Carpenter and his wife Laurie. Even though I have not read too many of that series I felt even more attached to them since I already knew them.

The murder mystery here was intriguing and fun to try to unravel. I did not see some of the plot twists coming. It kept me guessing all the way to the end.

This is a mystery that is worth checking out.

Good Dog Bad Cop is the fourth book in the K Team Mysteries by David Rosenfelt. This book follows the team as they investigate two cold cases that appear on the surface to be unrelated with the exception that two of the victims were police officers and the other is the wife of the first victim. As the team digs into the circumstances leading up to and surrounding both crimes, they uncover a myriad of coincidences and individuals involved in tangential activities that lead them to conclude that the cases are truly linked by more than just the personal relationships.

Although this book is part of a series, the author has included enough of the backstory of the team members and other characters to enable this to be a standalone read but also whets the reader's appetite to go back and catch up on the intricate details of the earlier books. The characters and plotline have enough depth and development to make this one of my OMC (One More Chapter) books and readers need to be prepared to be unwilling to put it down until the very end. The pathways that the reader is led down in this book also makes for a quite surprising twist at the very end that makes the story completely worth the read and has me looking forward to the next book in this series as well as determined to catch up on the author's earlier works.

The narrator has done an excellent job of pacing and voice creation for all the different characters in this book to the point that the listener can easily identify each of the speakers during the dialogue.

I received an ARC of this audiobook from NetGalley and McMillan Audio and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Good Dog, Bad Cop (The K Team #4) by David Rosenfelt
Narrated by Fred Berman
Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Expected Publication Date: March 14, 2023

Good Dog, Bad Cop is the 4th book in the The K Team series by David Rosenfelt. Even if you haven't read the previous books, you can easily read this as a standalone mystery.

This book follows Corey Douglas, retired police office and private detective and his team of fellow investigators, including K-9 Simon Garfunkel, as they assist the local PD with cold cases. This time they are investigating a murder of a police officer, and the supposed murder-suicide involving his former mentor, Jimmy. Corey knows there is no way that jimmy could have killed anyone, let alone himself and he is determined to prove that!

I really enjoyed this book! It moved quickly and the plot was well developed and kept me on the edge of my seat! I enjoyed hearing from characters from the Andy Carpenter series, but from a different perspective, throughout the book. It made it feel familiar, yet new at the same time.

If you enjoy a good mystery, you should definitely check this one out! I enjoy how the author keeps things light with the appropriate amount of humor and sarcasm! I actually laughed out loud and caught a little snort because of the sarcastic remarks!

The narration by Fred Berman was great! He does a great job bringing each character to life!

This is definitely a must read for 2023! It was incredible!!!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed the book. The characters were entertaining and the plot had me guessing until the big reveal at the end. I haven’t read or listened to the other books in the series but enjoyed this one enough that I’m going to look into the beginning of the series. I loved the humor and suspense in this one. I would recommend it as a quick and entertaining listen.

Available March 14,2023 Narrated by Fred Berman 7 hours

Early in the book, main character Corey Douglas notes that while he'll follow the facts, he's hardly impartial. I feel the same way reading, or in this case listening to one of David Rosenfelt's books. I'll set everything else aside that I'm reading for one of them. Even while some of the crimes boggle my mind, it's always been worth every minute of reading or listening.

I'm always intrigued, in particular, when I listen to a book I've already read as an ebook to discover things I've missed. In this case, Fred Berman's narration does an excellent job of reinforcing the worn, often gravelly sounding voice of Corey Douglas, a retired cop, now investigator, who has seen horrible things. It also shows a subtle change when he speaks of Simon, his also retired canine police dog, and girlfriend Dani. I was definitely impressed by how well Berman handled the female voices in the story, at one point being just sure they'd brought in a woman to edit in for Laurie and Dani. Nope, all Berman. Kudos, Fred Berman.

I'll add my original review of the book at the end rather than ramble on about the plot here. Heck, anyone familiar with Rosenfelt's crime depictions knows they almost defy being briefly summarized anyway. Think the world is in danger and only Corey, or Andy Carpenter in that series, stands in the way of total chaos and destruction. Somehow, it all makes sense at the end, usually when it's explained how they figured everything out.

Another thing listening reminded me of is, as much as I enjoy the humor of these books, it's the characters that keep me coming back. Corey is emerging as a strong force in his own right, with his own smart a$$ humor and issues. Girlfriend Dani, as emphasized at the end, is behind him all the way, sweetly asking at the end what "their" next case is, which I'd also glossed over while reading. In other words, if you're like me, listening to an audio of a book you've already read simply adds to the experience.

Thanks #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for allowing me to get to know Corey, Dani, and, of course, Simon better with each book.

My review of the ebook version follows below...

I've been a fan of David Rosenfelt's books ever since I picked up the first one with a photo of a beautiful dog on the cover. That love affair continues with his K-Team series. A spin-off from the Andy Carpenter series, it features many of the same characters but with the focus on retired cop Corey Douglas and his also retired police dog Simon, no, make that Simon Garfunkel. Simon is a star in his own right.

While Corey doesn't have the same rapid fire, often in your face humor as Andy, his own humor is just as smart a$$ at times. That's very evident as the book nears its end and he confronts not just the bad guys but the government guys called in to cart away the guilty. Actually, we get to know Corey better and better with each book and it was fun to see the human side as well as the smart investigator determined to right wrongs. His relationship with girlfriend Dani is evolving and although he is determined not to rock the boat, the "M" word as he keeps calling it in his mind seems to be occupying more and more space. Just as Andy tends to talk things out with his beloved Golden Retriever Tara, Corey has lengthy discussions with Simon but, like Tara, Simon is one of those good listeners who offer no advice. True, he probably thinks his human is the slowest thing ever when Corey decides to take up running with Simon, but since Corey, so to speak, controls the treats, Simon tolerates him. So does Dani, who is easy to like.

Bottom line, although Rosenfelt always seems to toss in some complicated scheme that they wind up investigating, often involving national consequences and the Feds, for me it's always the characters that draw me back, both human and canine. Well, that and team member and surely Superman in disguise Marcus' amazing feats. Sam's a wizard at the computer (think master hacker disguised as mild-mannered accountant) and Laurie, team member and Andy's wife, is no slouch with a gun, as she demonstrates in this book, but they all marvel at Marcus.

Like dogs? Like action packed thrillers? Humor? Like interesting characters that will grow on you? Curious about how investigators work? Ever wanted to save the world? This one is for you. Lots of thrills and fun along the way, not to mention solutions that will make you wonder how the heck author David Rosenfelt comes up with this stuff.

Thanks #NetGalley and #StMartinsPress - #MinotaurBooks for letting me rub elbows with this amazing team (and their dogs) again. 5 stars from me and four paws up and a tail wag from my own furry wonder, Daisy.
