Lucy is running away from a persistent suitor when she runs into William Colloway, who comes to her rescue. Unfortunately, this leads her down a rabbit hole of lies that she can't seem to get out of.

A nice solid story, but a little long-winded at times. I did like Lucy, but she seemed to cry at the drop of a hat. Plus, the constant attempts to tell the truth that never panned through got tiring. I'm not sure how I feel about Simon. His love seemed to come out of nowhere, and then he himself kept going around in circles on how he felt about her obvious deception.

The final reveal was also anti climatic.

It sounds like Nick will have his own story. I will keep a look out for that :)

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC copy.

I’ve read many of Dana LeCheminant’s books, but this is by far my favorite! I loved this Regency retelling of “While You Were Sleeping”. She did a great job of keeping it similar but making enough changes and twists to make it her own.

I loved Lucy and Simon. It was fun to see them trying to avoid their “forbidden” love, but not very successfully. There was plenty of angst and swoon. I especially liked the pond scene.

Simon’s family was so welcoming and everything Lucy wanted and needed. No wonder she had a hard time telling the truth.

My favorite side character though was Nick. I’m hoping he will get his own book later. Mr Granger was the perfect villain, though I would have liked to see Lucy stand up to him more, especially in the alley scene. She was a little too passive.

Overall this was a great read that I really enjoyed. If you liked the movie “While You Were Sleeping” and Regency Romance you will love this book! I highly recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

How could I resist my favorite romcom, While You Were Sleeping, with a regency twist. It was so great! I loved seeing the similarities between the stories. She is mistaken for the fiancé of a very sick man and she is hiding from another man so the lies begin to keep her safe. The family is so lovely and I loved the friend that visits and becomes a confidant for Lucy. And oh Simon! From the moment they meet he has fallen for her and can’t stay away. Lucy is so taken in by this family that it is hard for her to bring the truth out. Their chemistry was so good. I got a little confused at the end with all the lies and who knew what and a little annoyed at Lucy for the lack of communication. Overall, a very sweet forbidden love type story.

Regency romance meets "While You Were Sleeping!" (Insert squeals of delight!!)

This retelling was adorable and clever and had me looking for comparisons to the movie. Lucy and Simon had such great chemistry! Loved their banter. I wish he had asked more questions to ascertain how well she knew his brother. I loved Simon's family and how much they loved Lucy. I loved the author's writing and pacing of the story. I loved having a few chapters from Simon's perspective!

Characters
Lucy = Lucy haha
Jack = Simon
Peter = William
Saul = Nicholas
Joe Jr. = Jonathan Granger but more of a villain

I received a free copy from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

I loved the characters in this book. Lucy was so kind to everyone. I absolutely adored a few of the side characters. I’m hoping Nick and Olivia will get their own story.
This book had romance and a happy ending and I loved the While You Were sleeping vibes. My only complaint is the back and forth with Lucy. It was frustrating…. Why couldn’t she just tell the truth about Mr. Granger?
I will be reading more from this author (hopefully the next book will be about Nick!).

What Dreams May Come by Dana LeCheminant

This story is While You Were Sleeping meets Regency era. I loved this story and I loved all the twists and turns. Seriously such a fun read that kept me up way too late. I highly recommend.

Lucy Hayes is on her way to her next governess position but is waylaid when Mr. Granger is seen trying to follow her. With the help of a kind stranger (Mr. Calloway) she is able to avoid the nefarious Mr. Granger. But Mr. Calloway falls ill with a terrible fever and when they arrive to his family home, miscommunication occurs. His whole family believes they are engaged to be wed and his whole brother Lord Simon Calloway is not sure he believes this story.

I love retellings. And this one is especially fun because, in my experience, it's regency to contemporary but this is contemporary to regency! So, do you like While You Were Sleeping? This is definitely a version of it, down to the main characters first name matching!

If you like While You Were Sleeping, mistaken identity, families, regency romances, a super fun best friend and a very sweetly ending, I highly recommend this one!

Thank you @netgalley, @authordanalecheminant, and @covenantcom for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

- so, is Mr Granger bad or just annoying?
- Simon and Lucy. Like the Camden's, 7th Heaven
- I know of at least one other book where Jed works in the stables but I feel like there are a ton. Was Jed a common name?
- "One of these days he would need to find himself a distraction. Nothing too ridiculous—just something that could take his mind off the growing pile of work looming ahead of him, if only for a moment." Whew. Strap in, Simon. Your wish is coming.
- Simon is adorably awkward.
- is William a good dude?
- is it a love triangle if all 3 aren't aware of it?
- "For a woman who was always so sweet-tempered, she truly had a talent for instilling fear in her children." I would genuinely like to be described this way
- Nick is very entertaining
- he lost his governess 😅😅
- "You are not your father, Simon." I need her to explain this more. I'm pretty sure I know what she means but he doesn't.
- skipping rocks 😍
- you know that quote - a tangled web we weave? It is perfect for this book. It is very tangled.
- half dozen children sounds like A LOT. Turns out it's 6. Which is a lot.
- “I want you to be by my side and force me to take leisure time, and I want to be the one who makes you so happy that you forget you were ever otherwise.” that's freaking adorable
- Earl of Huntingdon. Fun.

I did not know I needed a Regency version of While You Were Sleeping until I read the synopsis for this book, and became intrigued. This is a sweet story, and I enjoyed reading about the characters and the messes they create for themselves. It's a light-hearted rom-com type of book, well-balanced and endearing, and readers of historical fiction will likely have fun with this one. The author also set up some interesting possibilities for future books (I'm getting The Scarlet Pimpernel & Robin Hood vibes...) and I hope there is more to come.

I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

This was a fun book to read. It is a regency version of the movie While You Were Sleeping. I love that movie and I thought the author did a good job with the book. I thought the characters were well written. The reader gets to know them well and in the process you can’t help liking them all except Mr Granger. I hope the author writes Nick’s story. I would love to know more about him.

A proper regency romance that is seemingly inspired by the movie While You Were Sleeping. Lucy Hayes leaves her job as governess to take a new position in the country. The brother of her employer has been pushing his advances and she wants to get away. Arriving at an Inn during a storm no rooms are available. A stranger named William in kindness claims she is his wife and gives her and her maid the room sleeping elsewhere. She is awoken by the innkeeper who says William in with fever and sends her with him to his family home. There she is welcomed as his fiancee. The family is welcoming and warm until Lord Simon Calloway returns home.

Lucy is lovely as she stresses being found out for her dishonesty and yet she caring for family that is welcoming her. Simon is baffled at his attraction to his brothers future wife and the feeling that she may not be who she says. I laughed that everyone, including his mother agrees that she is too good for William. There is a nice amount of tension building while waiting for William to awaken. I did think that Simon’s reaction is a bit over the top dramatic but it works for the ending. Best side character is story-telling Nicholas Forester as Simon’s long time friend who likes to meddle. (I hope LeCheminant is planning to tell his story in a novel.)

This book is clean with kissing only as are all books from this publisher. The story is engaging and I like that Lucy has self confidence and isn’t just hiding expecting protection from those around her. Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for the ARC and I’m leaving a voluntary review. (3.5 Stars)

A regency retelling of While you were sleeping? What more could you want? What I loved most about it though, is that even though it had those vibes, Dana made it into its own thing.

You’ll enjoy this book if you like:
* Mistaken/Secret Identity Trope
* The movie, While You Were Sleeping
* Swoon worthy scenes, especially the first kiss.

Dana is an auto-buy author for me, and this book is one of the reasons why. I did not want the story to end! Her characters always have a depth that continues to grow and mature. They are always trying to find their best selves. I loved the chemistry between Lucy and Simon. It was there from the first moment they met. And with Lucy and Simon as combined forces, they were able to help each other out. With them together, they were able to rise above what was thrown at them. Hate to see it end, but I hope we see more of Lucy and Simon in later books.
I highly recommend this book. If you enjoy romance of any kind, you will enjoy this one.

This reminded me of the movie "While You Were Sleeping" with Sandra Bullock. It's one of my favorite movies, and when I read the blurb for this story, I immediately had to read it. The main character is also named Lucy, but the setting of the story is completely different and adds its own unique and original flare to it.

Lucy is fleeing an uncomfortable situation thanks to unwanted attention from unsavory men. On the way to her new position as a governess, she encounters a stranger with an interesting plan that falls in during their travels. In comes the stranger's brother and the progression of a rather cute love story. Admittedly, there were some hiccups with the back and forth in pacing, and at times I found Lucy to be a bit annoying (but I found the Lucy in the movie to be a little annoying too at times), however, it merely added to the overall story.

This was a very cute regency romance with just enough drama to keep the reader invested. I really liked the setup of the story because it wasn't the usual fake dating/fake engagement storyline. The MC not falling for the one she has the fake engagement with, but with his brother made everything so much better (not a spoiler since it is mentioned in the synopsis of the book)! Simon and Lucy were great as a couple and I loved that the book was dual POV, giving us also Simon's perspective. I also liked how Lucy interacted with the other family members and with Simon's friend Nick. I did not like the epilogue, but I almost never like epilogues in romance books.

I read a lot more contemporary romance than historical romance, but with me being a big Jane Austen fan and liking this book I should maybe read more of this subgenre.

Imagine While You Were Sleeping in Regency times. A stranger offers Lucy his room at a crowded inn just before collapsing. His family is notified he’s returning home with his wife. While they wait for William to wake up, his older brother Simon wonders how he managed to make such an unlikely match. Lucy longs to tell them she and William are actually strangers, but his mother and sister are so pleased.
A lot of time is consumed with Lucy’s and Simon’s thoughts. Her guilt over the lie; his bewilderment at their attraction. I bogged down a time or two. Simon’s old school friend Nick arrives and injects a jolly note. Unlike the movie, there’s a sinister reason why Lucy keeps her secret. A fun story.

I LOVED this book!! It was reminiscent of the movie, 'While You Were Sleeping', but it was enough different that you didn't feel as if someone re-wrote the movie into a book. It had original characters and an altered plot. It was very captivating and hard to put down.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

I'm having trouble starting this review because I don't even know how to sum up the story without giving anything away! Lucy is rescued from danger, but then finds herself swept up in a mess of lies that she feels powerless to unravel. Naturally, she will fall in love with a man she has lied to, but will not know how to tell him! I spent the whole time desperately hoping that she would JUST SAY IT ALREADY! This book IS a sweet historical romance and OF COURSE has a happy ending, but getting there was painful at times! Which isn't a bad thing....it means that I really, really liked these characters and wanted everything to turn out well for them!

I loved how the story wound up with a very happily after!

I'm giving this one a solid four stars, for being an enjoyable read and for having such lovable characters (Nick is an AMAZING side character)! I'm only taking off one star because it was rather predictable. But overall, a really fun read!

I received a free #arc from #netgalley. All enthusiastic opinions are my own!

What Dreams May Come was a fun regency read.

Lucy is trying to avoid a man…and does so by taking refuge at another man’s house. …Disguised as his wife.

The twists and turns and plot surprises are always fun in the books this author writes. And even though things may get chaotic in the story, it all works out in the end. 😉

If you like wholesome regency reads, I would recommend this one.

Lucy Hayes finds herself trying to hide from a man who makes her feel uncomfortable. She finds a man who agrees to hide her by pretending that she's his wife. Things become a little chaotic when everyone at the man's childhood home believes she is his fiance. Lucy doesn't want to be a part of the deception but is forced into it because it will keep her safe. She doesn't expect to find someone who makes her wish she wasn't in a pretend engagement.

What Dreams May Come has a little bit of something for every average person to connect with. Ms. LeCheminant puts fun and intriguing twists and turns in what could be a simple story. The characters are fun and energetic, they make you want to continue on until the story finishes.

I expected to love this book. I didn't expect to finish it in one sitting and stay up until 2 AM on a week day reading it, but that's exactly what happened.

"What Dreams May Come" is a regency retelling of "While You Were Sleeping." As a huge fan of "While You Were Sleeping," I wasn't sure how it would translate to regency. I was also worried that it would be so similar to the movie that I would be bored while reading and know exactly what plot points would happen next. However, none of that was a problem. The book was just different enough from the movie that I was constantly dying to know what happened next, but similar enough that all my favorite parts of the story still shone.

I've loved all the regency books I've read from Dana Lecheminant, and this book was no exception. It was swoon-worthy, emotional, and I literally couldn't put it down.
