FIVE FLOOFY STARS! This book had all my favorite things: kittens, a little romance, and badass females working together to take down the man.

Vanessa was fired from her crappy telemarketing job because the boss (Xavier aka Excalibur) doesn't like her face. Her two work friends were also fired the same day (although one BEGS to keep her job and they allow her to stay). This starts a chain of events that include bugging the office of Xavier and overhearing some damning conversations about employees, performances, and illegal happenings around the office.

She, along with her friends, her mother and her "Bridge Brigade," as well as some former co-workers band together to take down Xavier after he attempts to block Vanessa from getting unemployment (as well as sabotages her chances of getting employment elsewhere).

This story was cute, funny, and so full of female empowerment - I loved it. Hilary Huber did a fantastic job narrating the audio as well. She was PERFECT for this one.

Thank you so much to Dreamscape Media and Anastasia Ryan for allowing me to listen and review. This was definitely a fun one!

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Anastasia Ryan for the opportunity to listen to this audio pre-publication.
Vanessa’s life revolves around blending in and providing the perfect life for her foster kittens. That is suddenly haunted when she is called into the boss’ office and let go for her face and the expressions it makes. This sets fire to the ultimate revenge plan over drinks with her best friends Trisha and Jane. As the sabotage begins, Vanessa meets with Carter Beckett about starting the process to appealing her unemployment. He can’t believe she was fired for RBF. That is the least damaging of the strange things this company and the man in charge does. Vanessa finds as she gets closer to carrying out her plan that she may be interested in more from Carter than her unemployment. How will the revenge plot play out and will Vanessa get her revenge?
This was such a cute story line, well written, and excellent narration. I would definitely recommend it to fellow readers

You Should Smile More was such a delightful, bingeable read! Telemarketer Vanessa Blair isn’t happy with her job, especially with her outlandish boss, but then she’s fired—because of her expressions. So she and her friends start up a revenge plot to get back at their self-absorbed boss. This book is quirky and original. I mean I laughed out loud while listening to this at work. This is filled with glitter bombs, friendship, some mischievous kittens, and eccentric people all looking out for each other. There’s a sweet romance in the background of this women’s fiction and it just has some really fun twists. I really wasn’t sure what I expected when I picked this up but it really impressed me. It’s smart and witty with a wonderfully satisfying ending and a lot of fantastic characters you want to root for.

This was a cute story about girl power and standing up for what is right! I enjoyed the narrator and how she made each voice a little different throughout!
I thought some of the flash backs could have been a little shorter but overall this was a cute story.

Thanks to all the booksta friends who put this book on my radar. I absolutely loved it! Vanessa’s story is hilarious, quirky, and endearing. I had a smile on my face the whole time I was listening to it and stayed up two hours past my bedtime just so I could finish it! If you’re looking for a light hearted, quick read that will keep you entertained, look no further!

Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for an ALC in exchange for my honest review!

This book will put a smile on the face of anyone who has ever worked in an office, especially if you’ve had an awful boss and a super-demanding job. You Should Smile More is a hilarious office revenge story. Vanessa is fired because of her “resting b*tch face” even though she’s really good at her telemarketing job. It turns out that there may be something fishy going on at the company and Vanessa, along with her fellow fired coworkers (and her mother’s bridge group!) are trying to figure out what that might be. There’s a whole subplot about kittens that will absolutely put a smile on your face (even if you’re a dog person) and even a bit of romance. Several of the chapters start out with relevant quotes from The Art of War by Sun Tzu, which I found clever and delightful.

I bounced between the audiobook and the ebook for this title, which was very convenient. The audiobook narrator, Hillary Huber, does a great job with all the voices and accents.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook and to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This was one of the funniest books I've read in a long time.

Vanessa was fired because her boss doesn't like her face. That was his actual reason. Insubordination because of her face. If she was in front of customers she might understand but she's a telemarketer! When her friend Jane gets fired as well, and their friend Tricia was threatened to lost her job, they decide on a drunken plan to unravel their boss. Though going along with their plan against her will, Vanessa enjoys unemployment by playing with her terror foster kittens, her mother and her bridge club popping in to try to help, and Sun Tzu advice from his Art of War. All in all, there's mystery, there's detective work, there's flashbacks about the insanity of their office. There is figuring out how to pick oneself up and keep moving forward. Hilarity ensues.

I look forward to reading more by this author.

You Should Smile More was such a wonderful surprise. It has romance, comedy, investigation, and so much more. Every aspect hits the mark and is written well.

The main character Vanessa is fired from her job because she has a resting bitch face. This premise alone had me laughing. As Vanessa accepts the fact that she was fired and tries to get unemployment benefits she learns that something is not right with the company that let her go. Then the investigation begins.

My favorite part of the story was the inclusion of Vanessa’s mother and her mother's friends. They take control and really push different parts of the investigation and it was all a joy to read.

Every character was very well written and developed. You will love them all! As mentioned earlier, Vanessa’s mother is my favorite character but Vanessa is a very close second.

I also really loved the romance side of the story because while it was there it was not the focus of the story. The focus was having strong female leads go on an investigative adventure. The romance not being at the forefront made it that much better.

I really loved this book. It’s this is one book you will not have resting bitch face while reading. You will be too busy smiling for that to happen.

Vanessa was wrongfully fired by her boss, Xavier. He said her resting bitch face brought in bad vibes. But she wasn't the only one fired for some absurd reason. Jane and Trisha were also on the chopping block. Feeling crushed and outraged, Vanessa joined her two coworkers to hash out a plan to get back at their ex-boss.

This was over the top and ridiculous in the best way possible. It had me laughing from beginning to end. Highly recommend to those looking for a fun and light read.

***I would like to thank NetGalley, Anastasia Ryan (the author), and Dreamscape Media for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.**

okay, the way I feel about this book is just confusing. Like it's not bad, just not for me. I do think there is some time inconsistency when it comes to the story telling. Vanessa called a but on women barbies and like judged them, but when we have the flashbacks she interacts with them and sees they aren't as bad as she assumed. In the presents, she shit talks them a bit.

The whole concept is just like the office but worse. If you didn't like Michael Scott, you'll hate this book. It made me cringe so much.

Thank you so much for the audiobook NetGalley.

You Should Smile More by Anastasia Ryan was hilarious. I got to read this book first before listening to it and let me tell you, the narrator does a fantastic job telling the story. She wasn’t monotone and actually help the story move a long more. I find that a good narrator helps make a story. I’ve h ad a hard time finding narrators that I actually enjoy listening to. She did a phenomenal job giving each character it’s own voice. ESPECIALLY FOR XAVIER.

As much as I didn’t like The Office because I get second hand anxiety from Michael Scott, you’ll feel the exact same about Xavier. Check out this book today!

Honestly, I did not expect to love this book. The cover is silly, the title is cutesy. Those things typically are a turn-off for me, but I was in a Netgalley drought (thanks holidays for slowing down audio book releases), so I took a chance. And it paid off.

This was exactly the cutesy, refreshing and fun amuse-bouche my soul needed to kick off 2023.

Vanessa, an underemployed telemarketer, is fired from her job because of her face. Yes, a woman employed to talk on the telephone in one of Dante's circles of hell, doesn't have the right face according to her misogynistic goof of a boss, Xavier Adams.

After an evening of alchohol, Vanessa and two work girlfriends devise a plan of revenge involving the equivalent of a baby monitor placed in the conference room, glitter, and all around mayhem.

I LOVED the interpersonal relationships. I LOVED the mom-group who were Dateline level armchair detectives. Even the romance which ensued with the unemployment guy and Vanessa - chef's kiss. And, truth be told, I hate romances. I prefer domestic thrillers and long time married couples turning on each other and ultimately killing (please do not tell my husband that).

Overall, this was a delightful way to spend a January afternoon and kudos to the choice of Hillary Huber as narrator. She is always fantastic and was perfect for this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen in advance of the 2/2/23 publication.

Thank you netgally, dreamscape, publisher and author of an ALC in exchange for honest review. The narration as always was done perfectly. At first I was instantly connected to our FMC as my face will automatically match what my brain is thinking ... but the more i listened the more I was so confused by the story and felt so unsure of what i was listening to.... I became disinterested in the story and the characters and had to push myself to finish.

You Should Smile More is a workplace revenge comedy following Vanessa Blair after she is fired because of "her face." She's given the option of signing for 3 days extra pay in exchange for her promise not to file for unemployment, which she refuses, and she soon finds there may be more wrong with the business than just the self-obsessed boss.

This story is so fun and I loved the characters' friendships. If you're in the mood for a lighthearted comedy with unrealistic-but-completely-entertaining scenarios, I highly recommend you pick up Anastasia Ryan's debut novel.

I wasn't able to finish this. It just seemed too weird -- the general set up, and also like it was making fun of a woman on the autism spectrum?
