This was a fine mystery thriller. All of the storylines did make it a little chaotic at times but it was fairly engaging. This is the second in a series and I haven’t read the first so I assume a little more knowledge about the characters would have made it a little easier to be invested. I felt like there were some obvious red herrings that made the story longer than it should have been; so many different side investigations made the book feel a little long.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ALC of this work. All opinions in this review are my own.

I love a thriller and I'm always keen to try a new author. I jumped at this one because NetGalley offered it in digital audio format. From reading other reviews I see that Every Missing Girl is the second in a series following FBI field agent Kendall Beck. Every Missing Girl picks up with Agent Beck and her friend Denver Police Detective Adam Taylor working on the case of what appears to be a child trafficking handoff gone awry in a convenience store shootout. Then Detective Taylor's niece, Frankie, goes missing following her hockey game and it throws their investigation and theories into the air.

The story has a decent story arc and resolution but the writing is sub-par and it reads like a middle school girl writing a crime novel. It takes place in my hometown but feels like it could be anywhere save a few name-drops of occasional streets and towns.

Additionally, the narration by Erin DeWard was distracting. Her tone change for male characters was odd and for some of the characters the choices she made for their intonation and voice was just bizarre.

Just Meh.

Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape for the ALC in exchange for my honest review!

I didn’t realize this was part of a series when I requested it. And then I remembered I had actually read the first one, but tbh I barely remembered any of it so you can absolutely read this as a stand alone. While I wasn’t blown away by the first book in the Kendall Beck series, I can say that the second installment was pretty incredible! I was totally hooked by the sex trafficking plot and couldn’t stop listening. And then there was that ending-totally gutsy and gut wrenching! It’s been awhile since a thriller made me this emotional.

My recommendation is to skip the first book and start with Every Missing Girl. If you love police procedurals, I really think you’ll enjoy this one!

I feel like this plot was a little to all over the place for me. I did enjoy the unraveling secrets with Poppy, and really hoped for a positive ending. While I know every ending can't be "happy" I felt a bit dissapointed by the end like I wanted more resolution... It was deff engaging, just not my favorite over all. Thank you Netgalley for the audio in exchange for my honest review.

𝐌𝐘 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒: Ultimately, I enjoyed this book. It would have been a solid 4 stars for me but I had two issues with story events that I can’t go into without including spoilers— one was actually pretty major. So, I’m giving it about 3.75 stars because I thought the premise was good and I found it held my attention well but it was hard for me to get past that. I thought it was a bit predictable but it also had some added clues that kept you guessing whether or not you were actually right. Kendall Beck is a likeable character but Adam Taylor is really not— can’t say more without offering spoilers.

This was an audiobook ARC, my first ARC in this format. I listen to a lot of audiobooks, so I was thrilled to get a chance to listen to this one. I thought the narrator was pretty good but it really needed a full cast of narrators. There are lots of characters for one narrator and her voice felt a bit choppy and disconnected when she acted out the lines for anyone; she did a great job as a traditional narrator but there were just too many voices to try to take on.

FYI- This is the 2nd book in a series but worked just fine as a stand alone. Also, the content is heavy and there are a handful of trigger warnings.

Oh and my two sons play highly competitive sports so I could relate to the crazy hockey parent references— been around and a part of that plenty!

Thank you, Net Galley, for the advanced listeners' copy.

I started this audiobook last week, and within a few days, the file seized to continue working on the NetGalley app (a new problem); after a few days of trying to fix it, I am just throwing in the towel and DNF'ing @ 10%. Usually, I don't give star ratings to a DNF, but it is required to submit, so I am giving it 1 star since it was unfinished and I didn't get far enough to give fair criticism of the book.

I will say, though, that the story was yet to be particularly captivating. I may pick this up when it releases and give it a second go.

Hands down the best thriller I've read (or listened to) in MONTHS. Perfectly executed plot and character development, an ending that gives readers the ending they're looking for without unnecessary twists and turns that do nothing but elongate the story.

This is the second book in a series, but the cases are different, with some primary characters overlapping between the books, so I didn't feel like I was missing anything having not read the first book.

Audiobook narration: Great narration that brought the characters and plot to life.

I didn’t realize at first that this was the second book of the Kendall Beck series. I didn’t realize till afterwards it was a part of a series. I really enjoyed the narration of this book. It had an ending I did not expect.

A thoroughly well-done audiobook with fantastic narration. This is the second book in the Kendal Beck series, which I believe could easily be read as a standalone book. Beck is specialized in missing children cases, and let me tell you, she will find your missing child, she is just that amazing. The question is, will she find them in time? I love the tension portrayed between the FBI and PD, it feels truly authentic.

A quick read/listen, you will easily find yourself getting caught up in the plot. I can't wait for the next Kendal Beck book, as this author is now on my list as a must-buy!

Thank you NetGalley for this audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is out TOMORROW, 2/7/23.

I was hooked from the start. I loved the team of Kendall and Adam and that they worked for different agencies and yet were able to coordinate and work together on this one. I also loved that it was personal for them. It added to the urgency of the story. Not that I believe there is ever a lack of urgency when searching for missing children, but that connection added a layer to the story. And what made this one even seem more urgent is the countdown of how long Kailey had been missing at the start of each chapter. Quite often I can’t remember the specifics of dates as I am reading, but this countdown left an impression on me, especially knowing the first 48 hours are critical.

The story was more layered than I anticipated. It kept revealing aspects that I did not see coming.

I switched back and forth between reading and listening to this one. Erin DeWard did an excellent job of narrating the book and keeping the urgency of the story.

If you are a fan of crime novels with a personal connection, this one should be on your radar.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

I didn't know starting this that this was the 2nd in a series, but I was fine without having read the first. I might go back eventually and read that one but it wasn't necessary. A bit of a slow build but good characters and an interesting plot. The narrator was good.

Title: Every Missing Girl
Author: Leanne Kale Sparks
Rating: 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the second in the Kendall Beck series but could easily be reas as a standalone. Sparks definitely gives some informaiton about what happens in book one; which really makes me want to go back and check out the first book! Anyway this is a great police procedureal novel surrounding a missing child.

I love how Sparks made the missing child so different, so appealing - I mean her name alone - Frankie is awesome, but the fact that she is a hockey player that doesnt take any crap - super cool kid. And because she made this kid so cool, is why I was so invested in this story, I needed to know what happened. There are other investigations going on throughout the story and I love how Sparks was able to wrap everything up in the end.

I think that the ending that Sparks chose for this one was ultimately the best ending for it. It was a tough one, but I am so happy with what Sparks did with it. It was real, it was raw, it felt like real life. This story deals with a pretty difficult topic, be sure to check out trigger warnings, but it's one that I think we as a society need to talk more about, need to educate our children on. I really think that Sparks did a great job with this one.

This story was narrated by Erin DeWard and she did a great job depicting the sotry. I was hooked from the start. There were alot of characters in this story, which when listening to the audiobook can become a bit confusing, but I was able to follow along pretty easily.

This book is released on February 7th and I highly suggest picking this one up! If you are a police procedural lover and love a good series - I definitely recommend checking this out!

🎧Cat & Mouse - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (finding a song to pair with a book about missing girls…not easy)

🗯Thoughts:

I saw a few 5 star reviews and knew I needed to prioritize this one. I should really start paying attention to whether a book is a police procedural…because I do not enjoy them what so ever. That being said, I very much devoured this one. 24 hours and WHOOOA.

THIS ONE IS DARK. Brace yourself people. It left me with this face 😵. I like books that make me feel that way. Kendall is a badass Special Agent, I want more from her but Adam Taylor…he was quick to react and i want to say borderline sexist, he had no business involving himself in a case about his own missing niece.

You do not need to read the first one to enjoy this (I missed it) but I think it would have been a good read, it’s explained quite well in the second book. I missed the boat but oh well! If there are more about agent Kendall - I will be following along!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25

I really enjoyed the narrator on this book. I’m very picky and sometimes the tone of voice doesn’t match the type of character that they are reading however this one was great.

This book has a serious plot yet you can tell especially in the beginning that the characters have been at it awhile and aren’t phased by much. The thoughts of wasted food and the internal dialogue was a nice juxtaposition to the events.

Every Missing Girl by Leanne Kate Sparks was well written and seemed to be well researched. The story unfolded and a nice pace and the villain was introduced early on yet still unpredictable. The audiobook narrator was clear and easy to follow. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to Every Missing Girl.

BOOK REVIEW: Every Missing Girl by Leanne Kale Sparks⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

PUB DATE: 7 FEB 2023
Thanks to @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for an Advanced Audiobook!

Audiobook Narration by Erin DeWard-- great investigative voice. Thought she did great with the different voices and characters. There is something interesting about how she enunciated some words, but after listening for a while, I got past it.

Book Moods: investigation, missing girls, suspense, police work

I liked this book. It is an investigation play by play, there isn't a lot of info or story beyond that. I would've loved if the book had more about the main character, Kendall Beck, because she almost became just another character. Love that she's a bad-A FBI agent getting things done, though! I didn't read book one, but I didn't feel like I was lost at all. This is Book 2 in the Kendall Beck Thriller series, but I think it was just fine as a stand-alone.

Oh. My. Gosh. Where do I even start?! This book had me on the edge of my seat! First off, the narration was amazing. She did such a great job at changing her voice to portray all the different characters. This story was so intriguing, heart wrenching, and kept me wanting more and more! While I did figure out part of the plot, the end completely caught me off guard! Sparks has such a great style of writing. I felt like I was listening to a true-life podcast. Really looking forward to reading more of Leanne Sparks books! I am now hooked!!

This is the second book in the series and be sure to read it in order, otherwise certain things won’t make sense in this one. I listened to the audiobook and definitely recommend the audio version, it helps bring it all to life. Nice detective mystery, looking forward to the next one.

Book 2 in the Kendall Beck series. I read The Wrong Woman a year ago, so I can't really confirm if this is a true standalone. I am guessing it is since there are new cases.

Featuring ~ dual 3rd person POV, FBI, police procedural, missing children, child abuse

FBI agent Kendall is back and teaming up with Adam the local detective on a kidnapping case.

I hate to love a missing child plot, but I can't help it ~ this was a goodie. Adam's niece goes missing and it's a race against the clock to find her. I liked that each chapter gives us the timeline of how long she's been missing. There was edge of your seat action and I know I am not the only one that's going to be talking about that ending.

I was pleased with the narration by Erin DeWard for 9 hours and 51 minutes when she was doing her own voice, but her other tones were not great and sometimes distracting.

Not a bad thriller but very slow build up and a lot of characters. I didn't realize this was book two and I feel maybe some information is needed from book one to understand what fully is going on.
